Chapter 83: Caught 'in the act

~7 min read 1,388 words

Qiao Suisui answered, and when Zongfang saw her, a smile unconsciously appeared in his eyes.

"Where are you?"

"At school, with my mentor."

She even thoughtfully aimed the camera at A Jin, who was standing straight. A Jin was stiff all over, squeezing out a smile.

Zongfang pretended not to have seen him and greeted him. The topic returned to Qiao Suisui.

"Shall I come pick you up?"

She blinked her eyes in confusion, then heard the man's tone, which carried a hint of command, yet he added three words for fear of making her unhappy: "Tomorrow is the weekend; don't stay at school tonight... Okay?"

Since she had come out, she felt time was passing very quickly; it was indeed time to go back and handle some things, so she asked: "It must be midnight by the time you get here from Suote, right?"

Zongfang curled his lips and said: "Come out; I'm already at your school gate."

A Jin exclaimed, "Good heavens!" So he had arrived early and was waiting. And he even asked if he should come pick her up—he was practically holding this ancestor in his mouth. A Jin really wanted to know what this man would do if Qiao Suisui refused him.

Sure enough, the next second—

"Now?" Qiao Suisui's brow furrowed slightly. "No. I'm not finished here yet."

A Jin heard his own gasp. He quietly moved a little to the side, pretending to look at the sky, while glancing one eye at a time at the man's expression on the screen. Unexpectedly, the man didn't show a hint of impatience or anger; he just pushed up his glasses, nodded, and asked: "What time is it? Aren't you hungry? Or is your mentor not letting you leave?"

Qiao Suisui shook her head. "It's my own work that isn't finished."

"Then I'll wait for you."

After agreeing to a few things, Qiao Suisui hung up the video call, only to see A Jin staring at her as if he had seen a ghost.

He muttered to himself: "Did I misjudge him?"

Zongfang's reputation was known to the entire Federation. This man was not a pushover; it was always others who had to tolerate him, never him yielding to a second person. Moreover, even A Jin, who didn't have much contact with him, could feel Zongfang's extreme possessiveness toward Qiao Suisui, as well as his behavior of trying to drill into every minute and second of her life.

Yet, such a man had rushed over early to pick someone up, and when refused, he hadn't said a single negative or accusatory word, yielding to Qiao Suisui's wishes in everything.

A Jin was feeling puzzled and was planning to continue persuading Qiao Suisui when another audio signal cut in. This time, it was his own light computer that rang.

"Hello."

The caller was an unknown contact. A Jin answered politely, only to hear a lowered voice on the other end: "I don't care what you're talking about; finish it immediately. If I don't see her in ten minutes, you can forget about your assets in Suote."

After saying this, the person on the other end hung up cleanly and decisively, leaving A Jin swaying in the wind.

"Teacher A Jin, I still want to participate in this group combat drill course."

Qiao Suisui had made up her mind. She could listen to A Jin's arrangements for everything else, but she had to take this course because what she lacked right now was combat experience. Besides, abilities were honed in combat. This course involved free team formation, entering a virtual scene to simulate combat with an enemy. She had studied it carefully; the danger wasn't high because everything was arranged by the school, and the enemies were also set, so she could absolutely participate to get some training.

"Teacher A Jin?"

A Jin, who had been distracted, snapped back to reality. He couldn't be bothered to argue with her anymore and nodded repeatedly, saying okay. "Let's stop here for today. I'll customize the other courses according to your situation and send them to you for confirmation before tonight. Oh my, I just remembered I have a meeting; let's leave it at that for today."

Qiao Suisui watched A Jin hurry away, blinking her eyes where she stood.

Afterward, she returned to her apartment, intending to pack her things and go find Zongfang. When she passed Anubis's room, she heard a clatter of tables and chairs.

She knocked on the door and called his name, but there was no response from inside. She waited for a while longer, feeling uneasy, and finally turned the handle and went in. She saw the tables and chairs scattered and tilted on the floor, and the bed was a mess.

A massive wolf lunged out and pinned Qiao Suisui to the ground. Its eyes were like obsidian, the pupils black, surrounded by gold, exuding a profound ferocity and vigilance. Its entire body was covered in silver-gray fur, with the chin and chest a mix of gray and white. At this moment, its nose was wrinkled, and its throat emitted a warning growl.

Qiao Suisui's heart was about to jump out of her chest. She froze on the ground, not daring to move, her lips pale.

Anubis's claws were resting on Qiao Suisui's shoulders. At this moment, he arched his back and lowered his head to sniff at her neck.

Qiao Suisui almost thought that in the next second, those sharp teeth would bite through her neck, but they didn't. After sniffing her, the wolf took two steps back, and the claws that had been pinning her were placed on the ground.

Qiao Suisui, who had thought she was a goner, saw the sturdy gray wolf collapse to the ground in the next second. It lay on its side, its abdomen heaving continuously, as if it were in great pain.

Qiao Suisui propped up her body and, from a step away, called out timidly: "Bi?"

The gray wolf couldn't move, but upon hearing her call, its eyes looked over. Qiao Suisui immediately confirmed that this was Bi.

"What's wrong with you? Are you in pain? I'll go find someone to help you."

She walked quickly to the door but stopped. Because she suddenly remembered that wolf Beastmen were not common in this world, and Bi's Beast form was a wolf, yet he hadn't revealed it during the entire testing process, which meant he didn't want people to know, and might even be deliberately hiding it.

Thinking of this, Qiao Suisui turned back. Seeing him still breathing rapidly, she knelt on the ground and placed the wolf's head on her knees to ensure his breathing remained smooth.

"How can I help you?"

She was so anxious her back was soaked. She took out all the medical pills from her space and storage grid and laid them on the ground. Just as she was about to try to treat him, a flash of white light blinded her, making it impossible to keep her eyes open.

A few seconds later, the gray wolf that had been resting on her knees turned into a completely naked boy.

Anubis was still panting; he was struggling to regain control of his body, only to find that he couldn't even move a finger. He lay on his side, his head resting on her lap, struggling to say something.

Qiao Suisui stood frozen in place, forgetting to move. She first looked at the boy's two flower-tattooed arms hanging limply at his sides, the muscle curves of his back fully exposed from this angle, the indented waist dimples, and his long, powerful legs, all filled with the scent of hormones.

Suddenly, the door was pushed open.

Zongfang's hand, which was on the door handle, tightened abruptly. He saw the scene before him and suddenly laughed. The smile was filled with bone-chilling ice, and his eyes were full of murderous intent.

He squeezed the words out through his teeth: "Is this what you meant by 'not finished'?"

The plot-heavy chapters are almost done; next up will be some Shuraba and lovelines. I need everyone's help with one thing: please vote with recommendation tickets, as this is the author's most direct source of motivation. Sorry for the trouble, bowing. ===== CHAPTER 84 =====
