Chapter 135 : Chapter 135
Chapter 135. Adventurers' Guild
After leaving her belongings and horse at the designated mage reception area set by the Alliance, Fulan decided to take advantage of the remaining daylight to find the enchanter's shop.
However, when she arrived at the shop's original location after asking around, she was taken aback.
There was no enchanter’s shop in sight. Instead, she found a large building with a sign that read Adventurers' Guild.
The building's decoration was grand and magnificent. The first floor was made of gray stone, the second floor painted in reddish-brown, and the third in a deep blue.
Each floor had finely detailed patterns on its walls, and it appeared well-maintained with no signs of wear or damage.
Above the building, there was a statue of a traveler wearing a long cloak and a round hat, gazing upward.
"Quite impressive!" Fulan couldn’t help but comment as she took in the architecture. It was the first time she had encountered such aesthetically pleasing buildings in this world. She hadn't seen anything like it in the City of Apprentices.
Fulan knew that the Adventurers’ Guild in this world wasn’t quite the same as the one from her previous life in a Western fantasy setting, but she hadn’t expected the building itself to be so stylish.
Unlike the tavern-like halls of Adventurers' Guilds she imagined, the ones here catered to a high-end profession.
Mercenaries, on the other hand, were the ones who typically took on jobs for money, willing to do anything for a fee.
They didn’t have their own guilds and only took jobs through intermediaries.
Think about it: if you were a merchant, would you just hire a bunch of mercenaries from a tavern to guard your goods? It would be a miracle if they didn’t rob you themselves.
Merchants typically hired trustworthy intermediaries who investigated each mercenary’s background to ensure they weren’t a threat to the employer. Only then would they feel safe hiring them.
These mercenaries were already among the more respectable ones, able to earn a living through escorting goods. They were considered middle-tier in the mercenary hierarchy.
Adventurers, however, had a higher status than mercenaries, as magical creatures in this world were considered valuable resources.
Not all magical creatures were valuable, though. For example, the wild wolves Fulan encountered outside the city could be killed, but their only useful parts were their fangs, and that was hardly enough to make it worth the effort.
If the equipment was damaged in the process, it would be a pure loss.
The truly valuable magical creatures, the ones that could be found more easily, had already been hunted to extinction. What remained were the rare ones, hidden deep in the forests and mountains.
Adventurers were the ones who sought these creatures in remote places, using their materials to earn their rewards.
The Adventurers' Guild existed to provide transportation, collect hunting spoils, offer logistical support, and share information about where magical creatures were located.
Though there were other smaller organizations, if you wanted any materials from magical creatures, you had to go through the Guild.
The Alliance only allowed the existence of Adventurers’ Guilds in a few provinces. In the others, it was organized directly by the Alliance.
And by coincidence, the Adventurers' Guild in Gede Town was one of the few allowed in the Graysoil Province.
It was located at the border of Graysoil Province and Antir, covering a large area for adventurer activities.
"Let’s go inside and ask," Fulan thought to herself. Though the Adventurers' Guild was prestigious and the profession of adventurer was lucrative, Fulan didn’t need this occupation to make money.
Just the money she made from crafting three single-use magic rings was enough to be a fortune that most adventurers wouldn’t accumulate in their entire careers.
High income came with high investments—adventurers also had to spend a lot to upgrade their skills and equipment.
She entered through the door, which had a metallic feel but was surprisingly light, allowing her to open it with a single hand.
The first thing her boots touched was the smooth marble floor, which was perfectly level.
Above the hall, a magnificent brass chandelier lit up the entire space.
On the walls, there were blackboards listing information about various magical creatures, written with chalk.
These were just brief introductions to the creatures, with detailed information available at the front desk.
The receptionist, upon seeing Fulan in her formal mage robes, immediately brightened. She came out from behind the counter and said to Fulan:
"Hello, honored Mage. Are you looking for magical creature materials, or would you like to place an order for one?"
Although the entry requirements for adventurers were high, they didn’t need to be formal mages.
Generally, as long as someone had a full set of swordsmanship skills, or had been an apprentice in a school for at least two years and knew three spells, they were considered a qualified adventurer.
Not to mention that some experienced adventurers even took newbies along for their activities as long as they had basic combat skills.
On the other hand, mercenaries could be a real mixed bag—you didn’t even know how bad they could be.
Some didn’t know any combat techniques at all but still dared to call themselves mercenaries.
"When was this Guild built?" Fulan asked.
The receptionist paused for a moment, realizing that Fulan was asking about the Adventurers' Guild specifically. She thought for a moment before replying:
"Honored Mage, I’m not exactly sure when, but it was about five years ago. It was built by the Construction School, and we moved here after the building was completed."
"Previously, we were located somewhere else in Gede Town, but we moved here once the building was finished," she added.
Fulan glanced at the blackboard listing magical creatures, then said:
"Do you have any records from the time the building was constructed? I’m looking for an enchanter’s shop that used to be here."
The receptionist was unsure how to respond to this request. If it weren’t for the fact that Fulan was wearing formal mage robes, she might have thought Fulan was just causing trouble.
But after thinking for a while, she decided to respond. She wasn’t sure if such records existed, but she agreed to look for them, considering the gold coin Fulan had given her.
"Please wait for a moment, honored Mage. I’ll go check for the information," the receptionist said hurriedly, deciding to search for the records.
If she couldn’t find anything, she would simply return the gold coin, but if she found it, the reward would be well worth it.
She rushed off to a room, leaving another person to attend to Fulan.
Fulan looked at the magical creature information on the blackboard. One entry caught her attention:
"First-Tier Magical Creature — Earth Dragon. Ten adventurer teams have failed to subdue it. This creature has powerful earth-elemental magic abilities and can use potent skills. For more details, please consult the front desk."
What caught Fulan's attention even more was that her panel suddenly popped up with a notification.
