Chapter 170 : Chapter 170
Chapter 170. Rampage
After dealing with one enemy, Fran pushed off from her horse and used Elven Swordsmanship to twist sharply in midair, carrying her momentum straight into the other soldier, who still had not figured out what was happening, and pinning him to the ground.
That soldier had not even managed to turn around under the weight of his heavy armor before he felt something slam into his upper body.
The sheer force knocked him flat on the ground at once.
His heart immediately went cold.
That kind of armor was extremely heavy. Even for someone like him, who had gone through several rounds of Body-Tempering Art and also possessed a Breathing Technique, getting back to his feet would take a tremendous amount of effort. And now an enemy was holding him down on top of that.
Fortunately, his companion should have been covering him from the side, which ought to have given him enough time to stand back up.
But when he prepared to make his first attempt, he realized that the weight pressing down on him had not lessened in the slightest.
At the same time, Fran made her choice.
She coated her longsword with Sunflame once more and slashed down at the heavily armored soldier’s arm.
“Aaagh!”
With that single scream, the heavily armored soldier lost all desire to get up ever again.
He could no longer put any strength into his shoulder, and his other arm was too weak to lift.
Fran looked at the neat, charred stump at the soldier’s shoulder and thought that this Sunflame-related technique was truly useful.
At the very least, once she used it, there was hardly any blood flowing from the enemy’s wound at all.
The Sunflame had directly seared it shut, which meant she did not have to bother cleaning enemy blood off herself.
Then she looked toward the heavily armored soldier’s waist, where an incendiary bomb was hanging.
Fran tore it free, used her powerful mental control to line up the throw, and then, relying on her physical strength, hurled it straight at Knight Eric like a baseball.
Knight Eric, who had been fully focused on the chase and coordinating with Cliff to box Finley in, suddenly felt an unbearable wave of heat.
It made the horse beneath him break out of his control and bolt off in another direction.
Eric’s first reaction was that one of his attendants had thrown one of those incendiary bombs at the wrong target.
After all, he had already observed everyone present, and only his own attendants were equipped with those throwable firebombs.
In that instant, countless punishments for his attendants flashed through his mind.
But the scorching heat dragged him back to reality. Right now, he had to deal with the flames on his body first.
He instantly hauled hard on the reins, forcing his horse under control so it would not smash into the railing at the side.
He activated his Breathing Technique, and at once, the unbearable heat became merely a searing burn in his senses. It still stung, but it was within the limits of what he could endure.
Immediately afterward, he pulled out a specially made syringe and jabbed it straight into his horse’s flank.
Even though that strengthening potion might very well cause this precious horse to be roasted alive from within, he could not afford to care.
This was a battle over a territory.
It might even be the most important battle he would ever face in his life.
For even the slightest advantage, he was willing to sacrifice this horse.
Because on the field right now, only this horse could carry him around. As for the cheap horses his attendants rode, if he injected strengthening potion into them, those animals would probably die of overstimulation on the spot.
And in a battle like this, without a horse to move him around, he would become little more than a living target.
His heavy armor already made him slow. If he lost his horse, he would probably be the first one eliminated.
And so, under the excited gaze of the spectators, they saw a knight wreathed in flames charge resolutely back into the pursuing group.
With the fresh dose of strengthening potion, his horse’s burst of speed still could not match the lightly equipped Finley, but it had vaguely become a bit faster than Cliff’s.
Finley glanced back once, turned pale with fright, and immediately sped up, continuing to drag the three riders and three horses around the field.
Even the knight who was temporarily standing on the same side as Finley instinctively veered aside when he saw a flaming knight charging toward him.
The audience outside the field erupted into cheers far louder than before. The roar of the crowd became so intense that the spectators on the raised platform had to raise their voices just to hear each other speak.
“It seems the Mage was telling the truth. That attendant really is the strongest person on the field besides the knights.”
“But I am rather curious. What exactly is that red-glowing technique he used? It actually cut through armor like that!”
The people seated on the platform began discussing Fran’s actions from just now. Even the same minor noble who had looked down on Fran earlier had already started speaking in the opposite direction, praising her instead.
Among everyone present, only Earl Ian seemed to have seen the clue. He said with some uncertainty,
“I think I’ve seen that technique before. It should be one of the techniques sold through the Adventurers’ Association. Quite a few powerful adventurers use it.”
“But it seems a little different in his hands. Supposedly, those adventurers can only use that technique under the sun, and when sunlight is scarce, its power weakens.”
“But with this many clouds in the sky today, how is he still able to bring out such a strong effect?”
Just then, Fran swung herself back onto her horse and charged straight toward the other ongoing fight.
Knight Cliff’s attendants were two modified humans.
Unlike before, when Fran had encountered enemies personally controlling their modified humans, the ones directing these two now were two soldiers standing by the railings at the edge of the field.
Each of them held a strange-looking round disc in hand and used it to control the modified humans.
Those two modified humans were mounted as well, and they were locked in battle with the two attendants on the opposite side.
Because the controllers had a much broader view of the field, the two men on the other side had been at a disadvantage from the very beginning.
Even before Fran arrived, one of them had already been knocked off his horse by the coordination of the two modified humans. He rolled twice across the ground and was struggling to get back up.
Naturally, Fran’s arrival was noticed by the two soldiers watching from afar. They braced themselves, preparing to defend against her next attack.
But Fran’s next move made one of them drop his disc outright.
Fran rode her black horse straight toward the flank of one of the modified humans.
Under normal circumstances, if she did not change direction, the two horses would collide and both riders would be thrown to the ground.
But Fran did not slow down in the slightest.
The black horse suddenly twisted at a bizarre angle and lashed out with a flying kick straight into the horse the modified human was riding, then landed smoothly without suffering the slightest effect.
The soldiers nearby were completely dumbfounded.
What kind of horse was that?
How could it make a movement that agile?
One of the mounted soldiers, seeing Fran rush over, instinctively assumed she had come to help him. After all, their masters had formed a temporary alliance.
But in the very next moment, Fran guided her horse up beside him and drove a sideways elbow into him, instantly relieving that horse of quite a bit of weight.
Even when the soldier felt the pain of slamming into the ground, he still had not come back to his senses.
Weren’t we allies?
Why did you come over here just to hit me?
