Chapter 36: Publicly Breaking the Engagement

【System Notification: Xiao Yan has activated the group live stream.】

After receiving the chat group's reminder, Lu Qingshan and the others quickly opened Xiao Yan's live stream.

They soon saw a black-clad youth in their minds—not very tall, but looking very spirited and capable—this was Xiao Yan, who had already activated the group live stream.

【Pang Bo: Brother Xiao Yan, you look really spirited today!】

【Xiao Yan: No matter how spirited I am, I can't compare to your tall and mighty presence, Brother Pang Bo!】

Pang Bo had activated the group live stream function before, so Xiao Yan had seen him.

Compared to Pang Bo, Xiao Yan indeed looked much thinner and weaker.

Just as Xiao Yan and Pang Bo were chatting idly, an old man in a green robe quickly appeared at his room's door: "Third Young Master, the Clan Leader requests you in the main hall!"

"I know!"

Xiao Yan casually replied, then walked out of the room and followed the old man in the green robe toward the main hall.

Although he already knew what would happen next and had made some preparations, when this moment finally arrived, a trace of nervousness still arose in his heart.

Following the old man in the green robe all the way, Xiao Yan soon arrived outside the Xiao family's main hall.

At this time, quite a few people were already seated inside the hall; besides the Xiao family's Clan Leader Xiao Zhan, some figures of authority, and outstanding younger generation members, there were only three strangers Xiao Yan had never seen before.

Among these three was an old man wearing a moon-white robe, looking full of spirit with a smiling face; on the chest of his robe was actually embroidered a silver crescent moon adorned with seven golden stars—this was Ge Ye, a Seven-Star Star Dou Zhe from the Yun Lan Sect!

Sitting beside Ge Ye was a young couple, both wearing moon-white robes; the man was around twenty years old and was already a Five-Star Star Dou Zhe; as for the young girl, she was even more extraordinary—although she appeared to be only fifteen or sixteen, she was already a Three-Star Star Dou Zhe, and her appearance was extremely beautiful!

"Father, three Elders!" Xiao Yan stepped forward two paces and respectfully bowed to Xiao Zhan and the three Elders on the main seat.

"Hehe, Yan'er, you're here, come sit down quickly." Xiao Zhan said with a smile.

Xiao Yan looked around but did not find his seat.

【Pang Bo: Those three old guys in your family are really no good; looks like you'll have to teach them a lesson later!】

【Yue Buqun: These three Elders are indeed acting improperly; with outsiders present, how can they humiliate their own family members like this?】

At this moment, Xiao Yan also shook his head inwardly, but since the problem of his talent had already been resolved, he was not as disappointed as in the original story.

"Brother Xiao Yan, sit here!"

Fortunately, Xiao Xun'er on the side also stood up in time to help Xiao Yan out of the predicament, calling him over to her side.

Soon, Xiao Zhan began talking with the three Elders and Ge Ye, while Xiao Xun'er whispered quietly with Xiao Yan in the corner.

"Brother Xiao Yan, do you know the identities of these people?" Xiao Xun'er cutely blinked her eyes at Xiao Yan.

Xiao Yan, having already read "Battle Through the Heavens," naturally knew the identities and origins of Ge Ye and the others, so he said calmly: "Judging by the silver swords and clouds on their cuffs, they must all be from the Yun Lan Sect!"

"Mm!"

Seeing that Xiao Yan had recognized the origins of Ge Ye and the others, Xiao Xun'er quickly nodded, then continued: "Then, Brother Xiao Yan, do you know what they have come to our family to do?"

What to do?

A trace of anger involuntarily surfaced on Xiao Yan's face.

In the original story, what happened next would bring shame to him and his father; how could he not know what they had come to do?

Actually, as a transmigrator, Xiao Yan himself did not very much approve of marriages arranged by finger-touching.

If Nalan Yanran had visited the Xiao family properly and privately mentioned dissolving the marriage, he would definitely have agreed and would have had no objections at all!

But now?

Nalan Yanran first bypassed the family elders who originally arranged the engagement, then brought in sect members to pressure the Xiao family, completely using power to oppress!

To top it all off, she even produced a Gathering Qi Pill as if bestowing a favor; this was simply utter humiliation!

Seeing the flash of anger on Xiao Yan's face, Xiao Xun'er on the side also couldn't help but feel a slight shock in her heart.

"Could Brother Xiao Yan already know the intentions of these people?"

Xiao Xun'er couldn't help but think inwardly: "I wonder what he is thinking about this matter?"

At this time, Ge Ye, who had been talking around the subject with Xiao Zhan and the others, finally stood up under Nalan Yanran's constant gestures.

【Pang Bo: Here it comes, here it comes!】

【Yue Buqun: I wonder how Brother Xiao Yan will respond!】

【Tianmeng Ice Silkworm: What's there to watch? Besides, that Nalan Yanran isn't good-looking either; she's far inferior to Bingbing!】

Watching the comments in the chat group, Xiao Yan's anger even dissipated a few degrees.

After all, his fate had already been changed due to the existence of the chat group, and he absolutely would not let his father and family be humiliated because of him, as in the original story!

"Ahem!"

At this time, the standing Ge Ye finally clasped his hands and said to Xiao Zhan on the main seat: "Clan Leader Xiao, the main reason we have come to your family this time is to request something!"

"Hehe, Mr. Ge Ye, if there is something, please speak directly!"

Xiao Zhan also stood up and said with a smile: "If it is within our ability, our Xiao family will certainly not decline."

Regarding these three distinguished guests from the Yun Lan Sect, Xiao Zhan certainly would not be disrespectful, but considering the family, he did not state his position too rigidly!

"Clan Leader Xiao!"

Ge Ye pointed to Nalan Yanran beside him and said: "This is our Sect Master's beloved disciple, Nalan Yanran!"

Nalan Yanran?

Hearing Ge Ye's introduction, a smile instantly appeared on Xiao Zhan's face!

"So it is Niece Yanran!"

Xiao Zhan said with a smile: "It's been many years; don't blame Uncle for not recognizing you earlier due to my poor eyesight!"

"Uncle Xiao, I should be the one apologizing to you for not having come to pay my respects all these years!"

While speaking sweetly to Xiao Zhan, Nalan Yanran gently tugged at Ge Ye's clothes beside her.

Seeing this, even though helpless in his heart, Ge Ye could only say again: "Clan Leader Xiao, the matter I seek today is related to Yanran! Moreover, this matter was personally ordered by the Sect Master, my lord..."

Hearing these words, a certain possibility suddenly occurred to Xiao Zhan's mind, and the smile on his face began to gradually fade: "Mr. Ge Ye, please speak!"

"This..."

A trace of helplessness appeared once more on Ge Ye's face, but in the end he still gritted his teeth and said: "Clan Leader Xiao, I presume you also know that our Misty Cloud Sect enforces strict sect rules, and Sect Leader my lord holds very high expectations for Nalan Yanran — to the point of already grooming Nalan Yanran as the next Sect Leader of our Misty Cloud Sect... However, because of some special rules within our Misty Cloud Sect, before the Sect Leader's successor becomes the Sect Leader, they are not permitted to become entangled with any man..."

"Therefore, upon learning that Nalan Yanran has a marriage arrangement with the Xiao family, the Sect Leader specifically instructed me to come and discuss with you, Clan Leader Xiao, hoping you can dissolve this engagement!"
