Chapter 10
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, reward dropped: Super Hearing (Homelander)"
"Ding!"
"Combat detected, reward dropped: Super Stamina (Queen Maeve)"
For the first time, Su Quan felt the world was so noisy and chaotic.
The sound of shell casings bouncing on the ground was like gongs and drums beating right by his ears; the heartbeats of Homelander, Queen Maeve, and himself sounded like punctured balloons, thumping away.
A gentle breeze, the roar of the crowd, the flow of traffic—every sound was clearly audible, all captured in his ears.
It made him feel as if he were standing in a field of flowers, surrounded by the buzzing of swarming bees!
Adjusting his hearing back to a normal level, Su Quan glanced at Homelander, whose face was livid but who dared not speak out of anger. He gave a dismissive laugh, pointed at his own eyes, and then pointed at him—
I will be watching you!
Homelander’s expression grew even uglier. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but Su Quan nodded at Queen Maeve and vanished with a *whoosh*.
"Shit!" Homelander let out a sigh of relief while unable to stop himself from cursing in a low, angry voice.
Queen Maeve shot him a sidelong glance. These two encounters with Su Quan had completely knocked Homelander off his pedestal in her heart.
What he could do, Su Quan could do too.
And even stronger!
What he couldn't do, Su Quan could do as well.
And even more!
What did Homelander have to fight Su Quan with?
The cycles of heaven are fair; in the face of absolute strength, Homelander was no different from anyone else—he would also feel fear, he would also be afraid, and he would also bow his head!
"Don't think that just because you've defected to him, you can look down on me. You don't have the qualifications yet. A bitch will always be a bitch!" Sensing the change in Queen Maeve’s attitude toward him, Homelander warned her angrily.
Queen Maeve looked behind him without a word. Homelander’s expression stiffened instantly. Had he come back?
He turned his head; behind him was empty space. There was no one there.
Realizing what had happened, Homelander glared angrily at Queen Maeve.
"You actually dared to play me!"
Queen Maeve was completely unafraid, giving a cold, mocking laugh: "So what if I played you?"
Did Homelander dare to hit her?
He didn't!
To beat a dog, one must look at its master.
Queen Maeve didn't care how Homelander viewed her; after all, in this world, everyone was like a dog, and no one could escape the various iron chains tied around their necks.
Be it money, work, or life—different shackles had long ago caused people to lose their true free will.
Homelander was no exception; around his neck was the same shackle known as the 'superhero persona.'
Perhaps only the mysterious and powerful Su Quan could possess true free will!
……
Night.
The lights were dim.
Deep in a remote, dim alley, behind an inconspicuous iron door, was a magnificent nightclub.
Most of the guests in this nightclub were those sanctimonious superhuman heroes.
This place could satisfy their dirty habits without having to worry about paparazzi taking photos.
Almost every male member of the Seven had been here!
At this moment, Su Quan was sitting in a booth in the corner of the club, drinking with Starlight, who had an awkward expression, watching the indescribable, absurd scene around them with a smile.
"Why did you choose to meet here? This—this is even more depraved than hell! I can't believe those superheroes who look so bright and great in front of the cameras are actually this—this scummy in private!"
Starlight felt the air here was filled with the stench of filth and depravity, making her feel nauseous just breathing.
Su Quan put his arm around Starlight’s shoulder and gestured for her to look at a man not far away.
"Rubber Man Ezekiel, the one who goes around the country preaching, advocating for 'praying for all homosexuals to disappear'—he’s currently holding two men in his arms."
"Disgusting hypocrite." Starlight took one look and hurriedly turned away; she felt her eyes were dirty. "Let's go somewhere else."
Su Quan shook his head, leaning back against the sofa: "What do you think a superhero is?"
"Protecting the weak, saving people from disasters, and bringing hope and light to ordinary people!" Starlight stated her answer without hesitation.
"Naive!"
Su Quan sneered: "The superheroes of this world are just commodities for Vought International to make money and increase their influence!"
"Don't be in such a hurry to deny it. Most people become superheroes to make money and get famous! Helping the weak and spreading love and peace is just a part of the job of being a superhero."
"You are no exception."
"If you just wanted to help others, why did you want to join the Seven? Why did you take the initiative to ask me out? Don't tell me you don't know what this means!"
Having her facade stripped away, Starlight retorted with an awkward expression: "Joining the Seven is my dream, and it can also help more people."
"Is that so?"
Su Quan pointed dismissively at two people who had just walked in.
One of them was dressed ordinarily, his expression shocked as if he were frightened by the absurdity of this place; the other was wearing a black trench coat, sporting a thick beard, and looking very composed.
"The skinny, bewildered one is named Hughie. Have you seen the news about A-Train running over a girl who ran into the middle of the road while chasing a criminal?"
"His girlfriend!"
"She was on the side of the road, not in the middle. A-Train was high, and he hit her so hard her flesh and blood were separated, scattered everywhere."
"The ridiculous thing is that Vought’s lawyers found Hughie to sign a non-disclosure agreement, offering humanitarian compensation. Do you know how much? A mere forty-five thousand dollars!"
"Are you going to help him seek justice and uphold righteousness?"
Starlight opened her mouth, unable to speak.
"The other bearded man is named Billy, a former member of a CIA black-ops team. His wife was Homelander’s web administrator, and she ended up missing after being defiled by Homelander."
"Are you going to help him seek justice and uphold righteousness?"
Starlight was left speechless by the question. After a long while, she whispered: "I, how do I know if what you're saying is true or false."
"You are the one who needs the answer, not me!" Su Quan stood up and walked out.
Starlight was a step behind, hurriedly getting up to chase after him.
At that moment, a tiny person the size of a thumb suddenly popped out, instantly growing to normal human size and blocking Starlight.
"Hi, beauty, want to come play with me?"
