Chapter 658
What kind of crazy question is this? Are you sure you want to ask this kind of thing at this time?
Looking at Gwen Stacy’s slightly dissatisfied eyes, Su Quan changed the subject, took out a string of Void Battle Beads, and put them on her.
"What is this? You used it to get through to my phone earlier. Is this some kind of new mobile phone?"
"It’s called a Void Battle Bead. It’s a special communication tool and also a symbol of status."
"If every god has a name, 'Lord of the Void' is my divine name. Wearing the Void Battle Bead means you are one of my, the Lord of the Void’s, people."
Su Quan introduced it while teaching her how to use the many functions within the Void Battle Bead hand-in-hand.
Gwen Stacy grasped it quickly, but she was completely bewildered!
It can communicate across space and time, it has medical programs that can cure various cancers, it has a suit system that can customize nano-suits, and so on.
You call this a special communication tool?
Except for the nano-suit system, the medical programs that cure cancer and the cross-space and time communication could be called miracles for humanity, okay?
"Whoosh—"
A tight-fitting uniform, white on top and black on the bottom, suddenly covered her whole body. Gwen Stacy looked at it in amazement and soon discovered that the design of the uniform was full of spider-style elements.
Recalling Su Quan’s untimely question about whether she liked spiders, Gwen Stacy vaguely had a guess.
Looking up at Su Quan, she asked directly: "Does my future have something to do with spiders?"
Su Quan shook his head: "Your future only has to do with me."
Gwen Stacy pouted coquettishly: "Can you be serious?"
Su Quan smiled and walked toward the wall at the edge of the rooftop, jumped up, sat down, and reached out to pull Gwen Stacy up.
Gwen Stacy was a little scared, but soon sat down cross-legged.
"There are many versions of the story of Gwen Stacy, I’ll pick two to tell you."
"In one version, Gwen Stacy was bitten by a radioactive spider. Don't worry about where the spider came from; the bitten Gwen Stacy possessed spider abilities from then on."
"Super strength, super defense, super endurance, perfect balance, a spider-sense that can predict danger, organic spider silk that can be fired from her wrists, the ability to crawl on walls, and so on."
"She became Spider-Woman because of this, you know, the kind of superhero who fights against evil and criminals."
"She had a friend, also her high school classmate, who was often bullied at school. After learning about Spider-Woman’s identity and abilities, he wanted to become as special as her."
"He developed a serum himself, but the serum wasn't perfect, and he died in front of Spider-Woman."
"The police, unaware of the inside story, treated Spider-Woman as a murderer and wanted her everywhere. Her father, Police Commissioner George Stacy, was determined to arrest her."
"The death of a friend, social misunderstanding, her father’s hostility—her life was a mess!"
"Later, she met several friends from parallel worlds, female Spider-Women from parallel worlds, and together they defeated the mastermind who manipulated her destiny."
"By the way, this Gwen Stacy joined a high school girl band and was the drummer. They even held a concert that was forced to end before it even started."
One spoke, one listened.
The atmosphere was indescribably harmonious.
Seeing that Gwen Stacy didn't interrupt him, Su Quan smiled and told the second story.
"The second version of Gwen Stacy is a cheerful, generous, confident, and beautiful girl. She wasn't bitten by a spider to become Spider-Woman; instead, one of her admirers became Spider-Man."
"Then..."
Su Quan stopped and waved his hand toward the sky.
Specks of light gathered, forming a very realistic image in the sky.
In the image, Gwen Stacy had a spider silk stuck to her, her body suspended in the air, her hands and feet hanging unnaturally toward the ground.
She was dead!
This image made Gwen Stacy’s eyes freeze, her breathing stopped, and an indescribable pain and nausea surged, making her uncontrollably show horror and gasp for air.
Death!
'Her own' death!
Gwen Stacy, who was already bright white, now had a complexion that was terrifyingly pale.
"This is me—this is me, right?"
"This is my future, and also the 'regret' you mentioned?"
Gwen Stacy looked at Su Quan with eager eyes. She believed that this second Gwen Stacy was her!
Su Quan didn't answer directly, but changed to another way of saying it: "Every world has its own timeline. Any person making a choice different from the original timeline will create a time branch, extending into another timeline different from the original."
"This is the future of your original timeline, not the future of this current timeline!"
"Didn't I say, your destiny has already been rewritten by me from the moment I appeared in your life."
Gwen Stacy breathed deeply and asked, nodding: "This Spider-Man, did he kill me?"
"You died because of him."
"Who is he?"
"Peter Parker."
"Peter Parker—I seem to have an impression?"
Gwen Stacy thought for a moment. She seemed to have heard the name at school, but she had no impression of the person and couldn't match the name to a face.
"The friend who died in front of me in the first story, was... was it also him?"
"Mm."
Gwen Stacy smiled: "It seems we have a good relationship, no wonder I died because of him! But... you skipped directly from the beginning to the end of this story, why? Could it be that we are together and you’re jealous?"
"Or—are you worried?"
Su Quan’s expression was dumbfounded. Gwen Stacy giggled and held his hand: "Didn't you say it? My destiny has been rewritten by you. For me now, the person I know is Su Quan, not some Peter Parker."
"The story you just told is really just a story to me, because that is simply not my experience."
"Being chatted up by you at school, being asked out in Dr. Connors’ office, flying to the rooftop holding you, being so dazed in your arms that I almost suffocated—these are my experiences!"
"That was my first KISS!"
Su Quan smiled and held Gwen Stacy’s hand back. He wasn't worried about what would happen if Gwen knew the future; he just simply didn't want to describe those useless fragments in the middle.
Because the focus of this version was Gwen’s death.
However, Gwen’s reaction warmed Su Quan’s heart, and a feeling of being touched welled up.
This is the Gwen I firmly chose!
Su Quan indeed had the confidence to say so.
Because for others, he almost never firmly chose a certain period or version, only Gwen Stacy—the Gwen Stacy of this world—was the one he didn't waver in choosing even after Spider-Gwen appeared!
Maybe because Gwen really is that "regret" that one cannot let go of.
— Author's Notes —
PS: Everyone knows I’m a single dog, so when I shape emotions and female characters, I actually avoid weaknesses and play to strengths. The writing style is very direct, but writing Gwen in these chapters, I actually felt it went quite smoothly.
