Chapter 83: Brothers at War? (Third Chapter)

~6 min read 1,136 words

Yang Lin’s actions were an immense insult to a Meixiu !

Jiang Yujiu sat on the cliffside, silently cursing Yang Lin for over half an hour.

She dared not make a sound, mainly fearing the commotion would attract unwanted spirits.

Until she heard a rustling noise coming from the valley below.

Looking down, she saw countless Tongxuan Grass Monsters beginning to revive, crawling upward in an endless stream.

Fuck!

Is it starting already?

She dared not linger any longer, slapped her ass, stood up, and hurried toward Jianfeng.

Meanwhile.

With the help of the two disabled Tongxuan Grass Monsters he’d first encountered, Xiao Fan had been steadily harvesting spiritual essence and now commanded an enormous force.

But his condition was growing increasingly strange.

The seven-colored light in his eyes grew more pronounced, his expression colder by the moment.

The other trial participants still alive were no slouches either.

Li Fengping, Jiang Jing, and the Ji Shi Valley alchemists, among others, had each displayed their own skills, killing many Tongxuan Grass Monsters.

Han Yun, from the Tai Shang Dao Sect and of considerable strength, adhered to the principle of avoiding conflict and conserving spiritual power, inching slowly toward Jianfeng.

Yet the one closest to Jianfeng now was not him—but…

Lin Qiu Xian! Lin Qiu Xian was not only the closest to Jianfeng, but he had also slain more Tongxuan Grass Monsters and defeated more trial participants than anyone else.

In his most dangerous encounter, Lin Qiu Xian had even been ambushed by hundreds of Tongxuan Grass Monsters, just as Yang Lin had been—but he had fought his way out using the Seven Emotions Sword Scripture.

A vast, flat expanse.

Xiao Ming, desperate to find his brother, had fallen into the same perilous situation Yang Lin and Lin Qiu Xian had faced earlier.

Around him, Tongxuan Grass Monsters with sword-like arms swarmed relentlessly.

Xiao Ming’s clothes were tattered, his body covered in countless tiny wounds, his blood staining him into a crimson figure.

“Brainless bastard! Fuck you all, get the hell out of my way!”

He’d just spotted Xiao Fan nearby—and then these brainless, idiotic things appeared out of nowhere.

Out of concern, Xiao Ming had followed.

After witnessing that unsettling scene last night, he’d resolved to have a proper talk with Xiao Fan inside the secret realm.

Though the rules had surprised him, his intention had never changed.

He’d settle for talking from twenty meters away if he had to.

Boom! One punch sent a monster flying; the surging energy cleared a wide swath before him, splitting the tight circle like a plow through soil.

But it was useless—the Tongxuan Grass Monsters behind quickly surged forward, filling the gap.

The colorful lights in their eyes resembled beautiful pearls floating in a silver-gray sea.

A silver-gray tide rolled toward him—each wave a dense cluster of glinting, razor-sharp blades.

Xiao Ming’s eyes turned blood-red; he pushed his spiritual power through his blood, stomped hard—BOOM!

A shockwave erupted before him, hurling the Tongxuan Grass Monsters into the air like straw dummies.

But… still useless! Sssch! A blade pierced him from behind, driving through his waist and bursting out the front.

“Fucking bastards! Brainless shits! I’ll kill you all!”

Sssch! Sssch! Sssch! Blades stabbed in from all directions—the sound of metal piercing flesh rang continuously; his hands, throat, waist, and chest were all pierced through.

“Huh… huh… huh!”

Even though he could no longer speak, he seemed to keep cursing.

Where was Xiao Fan? Was he also being surrounded by these brainless bastards?

“Brother, stop cursing.”

The sudden voice startled Xiao Ming; he forced himself to lift his head.

The Tongxuan Grass Monsters, moments ago frenzied like rabid dogs, now respectfully stepped aside, kneeling prostrate—clearing a path as a figure slowly approached from afar.

He knew that face too well.

‘Xiao Fan!’

Xiao Ming was stunned—but the blade through his throat left him only able to emit a hoarse ‘huh… huh…’

In a daze, he recalled the scene he’d witnessed last night: insects bowing like servants at Xiao Fan’s side.

How eerily similar this was!

As Xiao Fan drew near, the surroundings faded; the two entered the hazy gray space.

In the center stood a line of golden characters.

【Battle Begins】

Xiao Fan did not move, only smiled at Xiao Ming: “Brother, you really are a body cultivator—your vitality is incredible.”

He wasn’t wrong; Xiao Ming looked utterly horrific.

Though the blades embedded in his body had vanished upon entering this space, the wounds remained.

Gazing into those eyes—like polished glass, swirling with seven-colored light—Xiao Ming’s heart turned cold.

This couldn’t possibly be Xiao Fan! “Brother, of course it’s me,” Xiao Fan smiled, as if reading his thoughts. “Who else could it be?”

“Huh… huh…!”

Blood seeped from the wound in his throat; Xiao Ming’s vision grew dimmer.

“Rest easy, brother. I’ll achieve an excellent result.”

With a flick of his finger, Xiao Fan shot a surge of spiritual power straight through Xiao Ming’s forehead.

Life extinguished, Xiao Ming’s body slowly dissolved into specks of light.

The surroundings returned; they were back in the secret realm.

The Tongxuan Grass Monsters still knelt reverently, as if worshipping their sovereign.

Xiao Fan stood at the center, gazing upward—as if locking eyes with someone in the sky.

…………

Far away, Zhang Yunlu stood atop a modest hill.

She had witnessed every moment of Xiao Ming’s death at the hands of the Tongxuan Grass Monsters.

“Someone can control these monsters?”

That complicates things—she couldn’t guarantee she’d survive an attack by so many.

And… Xiao Fan’s condition seemed deeply wrong.

After observing for a few more seconds, Zhang Yunlu decided to retreat—fighting now would be unwise.

Yet just as she prepared to look away, Xiao Fan, who had been staring at the sky, suddenly turned—and looked right at her!

Though they were far apart, Zhang Yunlu saw with perfect clarity those eyes—like polished glass, swirling with seven-colored light.

There was surprise in them, as if he’d stumbled upon an unexpected delight.

The moment their gazes met, the air froze; time itself seemed to halt.

Zhang Yunlu’s body bristled; a bone-deep chill shot from her feet to her scalp.

Her heartbeat stopped—then surged wildly, thundering like a war drum.

Danger!

Extreme danger! Every fiber of her flesh screamed, urging her to flee—the shadow of death loomed, fear crashing over her like a tidal wave.

Xiao Fan began to move.

He started walking toward Zhang Yunlu—calm, unhurried.

Yet with each step, his form twisted—and then he instantly crossed over ten meters, as if wielding the legendary technique of shrinking distance! The kneeling Tongxuan Grass Monsters rose, roared to the sky, and sprinted after Xiao Fan.
