Chapter 171: Gifting an Iron-Eating Beast as a Token of Love
What she hadn't expected was that Ying took her away from the Tribe. She had originally wanted to go check on how the medicinal decoction Youchao Xuan and the others were brewing was coming along, but Ying brought her out here, heading even farther away.
"Hey, where are we going? I still need to go back and check on their medicine brewing?"
Now Youchao Xuan and Axi had become her successors; in the future she would pass on all the medical skills she knew to them. Ying simply held her in his arms. "They're all following you, they won't make any mistakes. Don't worry, we're almost there."
She looked at the familiar place in the distance and momentarily lost herself in a daze.
Ying had actually brought her to the place where she had fled from back then. Here, the endless expanse of purple Xuan Yi Grass looked truly stunning as far as the eye could see.
She thought Ying was still angry about her running away back then, and felt too awkward to get down. She still remembered how she had run here and seen the northern lights, thinking she could use the northern lights to leave this place and travel back. Now... she didn't want to leave anymore.
People's hearts can change.
She felt a bit guilty. "Ying, what did you bring me here for?"
Ying chuckled softly, then had the Mammoth crouch. The two of them walked into the Xuan Yi Grass. Ying pointed at the sunset across from them. "Qinghuan, there will be a Divine Light there. Did you come from there originally?"
He brought her here with no other intention, only wanting to tell her that from now on he would never do anything she didn't want him to do.
Nan Qinghuan didn't know why he was asking about this and felt a bit guilty. "No, I was just running around blindly back then. Ying, what do you mean? I won't leave you, I swear."
She thought Ying had come to test her, but Ying just shook his head. "Qinghuan, I'm not afraid of you leaving me. I just wanted to let you see the beautiful scenery here. Look, are these flowers pretty?"
"Flowers?"
Saying that, Ying went and picked a large handful of Xuan Yi Grass, and also picked some colorful flowers she couldn't name, mixed them together, and walked to her side.
"Qinghuan, do you like them?"
Nan Qinghuan hadn't expected this man to have learned the tricks modern men use to make girls happy. "You're giving me flowers? Ying, who taught you this?"
She didn't understand. Where could Ying, a wild man, have learned it? Everyone in the Tribe was struggling just to feed and clothe themselves. Who would have such romantic cells? She absolutely didn't believe Ying could have come up with it himself.
Ying frowned slightly, looking nervous. "You don't like them?"
Nan Qinghuan quickly shook her head. "Of course not. I like them very much. Who taught you this?"
Ying reached out and embraced her, smiling with satisfaction, and whispered in her ear, "Youchao Xuan said that females all like flowers, and told me to bring you to see flowers. Qinghuan, are you happy?"
"Youchao Xuan?"
Nan Qinghuan was rather surprised. She truly hadn't expected that kid Youchao Xuan to have such romantic cells. He was an Ancient Person, this was a bit too fashionable.
"Do you like them?"
Nan Qinghuan was very happy. She was actually able to have a sweet romance even in Remote Antiquity. When Heaven had brought her to this place, she had been very angry at first, but now... she felt fulfilled and happy.
"I like them, I like them very much."
Ying gave a hearty laugh, put his arm around her waist, and gently laid her on the grass. Overwhelming kisses gradually descended, and Nan Qinghuan's breathing grew unsteady from the kissing.
"Ying..."
She grabbed his arm. "No, I'm scared."
What if there were wild beasts? And out here in the open field, she couldn't let herself go either.
Ying frowned and lay on her chest, panting, his eyes full of desire. But seeing Nan Qinghuan's frightened look, he hurriedly and gently rose, reaching out to stroke her face. The desire was still in his eyes, but it had faded a great deal.
"Don't be afraid, I won't touch you."
He had actually held back and respected her wishes. This nearly moved Nan Qinghuan to tears. This wild man husband of hers had truly changed a lot.
She rested her head gently on his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat. In that moment, a breeze blew past, scattering petals across the sky.
Breathtakingly beautiful.
The two of them just lay there on the ground covered in flowers and grass. She plucked a flower and placed it on her face, her eyes gazing at the blue sky and white clouds. She had to admit that the weather in Remote Antiquity Era was truly wonderful. The sky was as blue as a mirror, without a trace of pollution.
"Ying, I used to complain about why it had to be me who came here. But now I feel very lucky. I met you, and the two of us kept adjusting to each other, adjusting and adjusting. When our values didn't align, you'd take a step back; when our temperaments clashed, you'd accommodate me. I feel very happy, you know?"
It seemed like she was the dominant one, and this wild man had indeed suffered some grievances.
These words were somewhat beyond Ying's understanding. What "values," what things — he didn't get it. But he understood one sentence: she said she was very happy.
He suddenly rolled over and embraced her. "Qinghuan, what you just said is true?"
He was so happy he wanted to jump up. His Qinghuan said she was very happy. He swore that for the rest of his life he would cherish her, spoil her, and love her, and would absolutely never let her suffer any grievance.
Nan Qinghuan nodded. The two gazed at each other, their eyes brimming with affection.
Her heartbeat accelerated. She knew she had completely fallen in love with this man. From now on, they would share blessings and hardships, and face difficulties together!
"Of course it's true. Ying, I..."
"Gu gu..."
Suddenly the sound of a wild beast came. Nan Qinghuan jumped up in fright and said warily, "Oh no, a wild beast is coming."
She had to admit, in this Remote Antiquity Era, she was constantly on guard against wild beasts.
Seeing her so frightened, Ying just chuckled. "Don't be afraid, Qinghuan. It's a gift I want to give you. I believe you'll like it."
Nan Qinghuan looked at him blankly. "A gift? What gift?"
Ying quickly looked toward a spot not far away, a smile curving at the corner of his mouth. "Bring it over."
Amidst the purple flowers, Nan Qinghuan actually saw Ji Lei. Ji Lei was bringing something round and plump toward them. When she saw that round, chubby black-and-white animal, Nan Qinghuan was so stunned she couldn't speak.
"This is..."
She couldn't help reaching up to rub her eyes. Good heavens, what was she seeing? How did this animal look so much like a modern giant panda? Only it appeared much smaller than a giant panda. So cute — her heart was melting.
She immediately stepped forward, not afraid of this animal at all, and asked joyfully, "Ying, the gift you mentioned is a panda?"
As a paleontologist, she was truly somewhat puzzled by this creature appearing in Remote Antiquity Era. Giant pandas existed even in Remote Antiquity Era? But soon, she realized this was not a modern giant panda. This should be the ancestor of the giant panda.
Because, although this fellow was black and white, it still had some mixed black-and-white fur on its back.
Could ancient giant pandas have looked like this? Ji Lei saw that Nan Qinghuan liked it very much, and he was also happy. "Ying, look, A Mu really likes this Iron-Eating Beast. Your effort in taming it wasn't wasted."
"Iron-Eating Beast?"
Nan Qinghuan remembered. Yes, in ancient times the giant panda was called by this name. She hadn't expected it to be called the same name even in Remote Antiquity Era.
Seeing her delight, Ying knew Nan Qinghuan liked it. He nodded, his face full of doting affection. "I know you've always wanted to keep a pet. Jingang is too big to stay with you in the Cave. This Iron-Eating Beast won't grow large, and it only eats bamboo, so it's easy to raise. Qinghuan, I'm giving it to you as a token of our love. Do you like it?"
Nan Qinghuan naturally liked it, but this man was actually saying this panda was a token of their love? She stared at him wide-eyed. "A token of love?"
He can even say such romantic words? Ying reached out and hugged the panda; the panda recognized its master, cheerfully scrambled onto Ying's shoulder and sat up, looking endearingly goofy and utterly cute.
"A love token, given to you where you arrived—do you like it?"
