Chapter 50: You Die for Me First

~8 min read 1,413 words

When the three-headed Giant Python saw her blue eyes, it was instantly terrified and tried to flee, but Nan Qinghuan had no intention of giving it the chance—her hand rose and the blade fell, and in an instant, a single slash severed one of its snake heads.

Soon, a Giant Python lay limply on the ground, its two severed heads dripping with blood as they stared at them. A Yue was so frightened her legs went weak, and she sat in the tree, not daring to come down.

She had just seen it with her own eyes—this three-headed Giant Python was afraid of this female.

"You really are a demoness. Even this three-headed Giant Python is afraid of you."

Nan Qinghuan only let out a breath of relief once the snake was dead. She was covered in mud, her face smeared with dust, and her white dress was stained with snake blood—a shocking sight.

She was half-dead from exhaustion and suddenly plopped down right next to the dead snake. What a pity—if this snake were in modern times, it would have been a sensation in the biological world. A three-headed Giant Python from the Jurassic era, extinct for ages, and she had killed two of them.

What a sin.

"Nan Qinghuan, I'm talking to you—have you gone mute?"

Seeing that she dared to ignore her, A Yue took the opportunity to climb down from the tree and walked over to the dead snake, kicking it with her bare foot. "It's useless now."

Nan Qinghuan shot her a glare. "Now that the snake is dead, it's time to settle the score between you and me, A Yue."

A Yue was startled. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."

"Don't think I don't know. The habits of this snake generally wouldn't bring it to a place like this. It's so flat here, and it would be afraid of running into hunters too. It was you screaming like a ghost just now to lure me here, wasn't it?"

A Yue was somewhat taken aback but refused to admit it. "I didn't. Don't slander me. I only came in to look because I heard someone crying for help. This snake has nothing to do with me."

"Nothing to do with me? Do you take me for a three-year-old—"

Nan Qinghuan was just about to deal with A Yue when, sure enough, a panicked woman's cry came from not far away. "Help! Help!"

"Did you hear that? Let's go look quickly."

Nan Qinghuan hadn't wanted to go, but if it turned out to be real, she couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Seeing A Yue run off, she took the opportunity to squat down and retrieve her Shoes from the snake's mouth, brushed off the dust and dirt, and put them back on her feet.

They walked toward the deepest part of the thicket. It was all grass and bushes here, with no end in sight.

Suddenly... A Yue jumped down from a tree like a ghost. "Stop looking. There's no one here."

Seeing that A Yue had come down and seemed to be waiting for her, she said, "Since there's no one, let's go back."

She turned to leave, but suddenly A Yue gave her a hard shove. Her body instantly fell into a pit in the ground. She grabbed at the earth around her, and below was a writhing mass of snakes.

Holy crap!

In an instant, every hair on her body stood on end!

"Haha, Nan Qinghuan, you're not so clever after all. See? You're still going to die by my hand, A Yue's hand."

Nan Qinghuan used all her strength to try to climb up. Below was a swarm of snakes. Seeing prey descend, those colorful snakes raised their heads and looked her way, waiting for her to fall so they could feast.

"A Yue, come here. Let me say something to you."

Nan Qinghuan was barely holding on. If this damn A Yue wanted to harm her, then let's see her try.

A Yue found it deeply satisfying to see her struggling. She glared at her, then sure enough walked over to Nan Qinghuan and squatted down. She reached out and stroked her fair, delicate face, then pinched it hard. "You just relied on this soft skin to seduce Ying. Once you fall down and the snakes eat you clean to bare bones, let's see if Ying still likes you."

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

"Nan Qinghuan, you deserve to die. You stole my Ying. I want your—"

"Ah—"

Before A Yue could finish her words, Nan Qinghuan suddenly freed one hand, grabbed her leg, and yanked hard downward—

"You die for me first."

In an instant, A Yue became the cushion at the bottom and fell into the snake pit.

Ten thousand snakes boiled.

Night fell. The jungle was full of people. Ying, at the head of the group, held a torch. "Everyone go find her. We must find Huaner."

"Yes, Clan Leader."

That night, the tribespeople mobilized en masse to search for Nan Qinghuan. When the women saw the yams A Yue had brought back and learned that Nan Qinghuan had encountered danger while trying to help their children have a good meal, every one of the women wanted to come rescue her.

And so, the Tribe had never before had women go out to search for someone, but that night, they all came.

Carrying their children on their backs and holding torches, driven by gratitude, they were determined to find their Goddess.

Ying had just returned from hunting when Axi came to tell him that Qinghuan was in this thicket. He was so anxious that he brought people over without even setting down his prey, but to his dismay, it was already dark by the time they arrived.

"Clan Leader, this place is too vast. We don't know which way the Goddess would have gone."

Dashan was worried, and Lei Ji was worried too. "Axi, do you know which direction the Goddess went?"

Axi scratched her head. She had been groggy at the time. "I think..."

"I know where they are. Clan Leader, I know."

Aning suddenly stepped forward and knelt down. "Clan Leader, the Shamaness and the Goddess are at the Ten Thousand Snake Pit."

"What? A Yue is there too?"

Ying was the smartest and most quick-witted man in the Tribe. He instantly understood what had happened and glared fiercely at Aning. "If Huaner is missing so much as a scrap of flesh, I'll flay you alive. Let's go—to the Ten Thousand Snake Pit."

Everyone was terrified to hear that Nan Qinghuan had gone to the Ten Thousand Snake Pit. That place was crawling with snakes. What were the Shamaness and the Goddess doing there? Aning saw the tribespeople all taking torches into the forest to search for Nan Qinghuan, and now only she and her A Mu remained. She hurriedly kowtowed. "A Mu, I'm sorry. It was A Yue who made me do this. It was A Yue."

The woman was tall and actually wore a shiny nose ring. Her face was like tree bark, and she looked weathered and worn. Hearing Aning's words, she sighed heavily. "You ungrateful child. How could you team up with A Yue to harm the Goddess? Even if she weren't Ying's female, she is still the Goddess. Have you forgotten? She taught A Mu how to make food. Has your conscience been eaten by wild beasts?"

"A Mu, I'm sorry. I know I was wrong. I—"

Slap, slap—two slaps knocked Aning to the ground. Her A Mu picked up a stick from the ground. "The Ying Tribe can no longer keep you. Go to the Misty Forest and atone before the Heavenly God."

"A Mu, A Mu—"

In the pitch-dark thicket, fortunately Ying had night vision eyes. He quickly found the location of the Ten Thousand Snake Pit.

"Help, help—"

"Ying, it's the Shamaness's voice."

Dashan and the others came running to report, and Ying hurried anxiously toward the snake pit. Before they even reached the snake hole, they actually heard—"Please, make these snakes go away, make them go away, I'm dying of pain."

"That's A Yue's voice?"

"Huaner—"

Ying shouted her name from above. Nan Qinghuan was about to say something when she heard Ying's voice. Overjoyed, she shouted toward the surface, "Ying, I'm here!"

When Ying and the others rushed over, they actually saw…
