Chapter 85: All Who Harm Her Must Die
Nan Qinghuan's gaze was sharp, with a hint of scrutiny; A Yue got angry when she saw her, tossed her hair and sneered, "I am the Shamaness bestowed by the Heavenly God, I have the power to revive the dead; you cannot kill me."
"Heavenly God, nonsense!"
Nan Qinghuan noticed a knife scar on her neck, sure that someone had saved her that day, but she didn't understand—did the ancients possess such advanced medicine, able to keep a self‑slashed person alive, to stop the bleeding, to dress the wound? A Yue, seeing her disdain, sneered softly, "Nan Qinghuan, if I die the Cannibal Tribe will avenge me; just wait."
A Yue was very smug; hearing that, Nan Qinghuan's expression darkened, "Cannibal Tribe?"
Could this woman be connected to the Cannibal Tribe? A Yue's words made the tribe members uneasy; A Yue had indeed died—how did she come back to life? From not far away a crone's voice called out, "You must not kill A Yue."
The crowd turned their heads and saw… Shiva leading a few tribe members slowly toward them. Seeing Shiva arrive, Ying looked somewhat displeased, "Shiva, what are you saying?"
"Ying, you must not kill A Yue. Her revival is a divine command; how dare you slay someone granted by the gods? This will bring disaster upon the tribe."
Seeing Ying remain silent, Shiva continued to incite, "Tribe members, you must not kill A Yue. Have you forgotten how she once helped you?"
The tribe members had long been disappointed with A Yue, so they naturally doubted Shiva's words, "Shiva, I don't know whether A Yue is a god‑granted Shamaness; I only know she intends to harm our Goddess. Our Goddess is the Heaven's Daughter—how could she dare?"
"Indeed, Shiva, stop defending A Yue; she deserves whatever happens, even if she dies a few more times."
"Axi, you actually…"
"A Yue, you've tried to harm Nan Qinghuan so many times; I won't help you. Do you realize you almost harmed Nan Qinghuan and Ying? How could you…"
"Enough, A Yue must die."
Ying suddenly barked, "Someone, pull Shiva away."
At those words, Shiva became a bit panicked, "Ying, spare her life, please, considering what she did before, you…"
Ying's gaze was sharp and merciless; he scanned A Yue, "She should have died long ago. My Ying Tribe will not tolerate such a scourge."
Dropping those words, he hurried up onto the Sacrificial Altar himself, then gently took Nan Qinghuan's hand, "Huaner, come with me."
A Yue saw him leading Nan Qinghuan away to act, her eyes bleeding profusely, "Ying, do you really hate me that much?"
Ying didn't even glance at her; he simply pulled Nan Qinghuan down from the altar and coldly ordered, "Begin."
As soon as those words fell, the tribe held their breath, focused. Nan Qinghuan, unsure how they intended to kill A Yue, cautiously asked Axi, "Axi, how shall we deal with A Yue?"
Axi's eyes looked terrified as she said, "Nan Qinghuan, we should leave; don't watch, it's very bloody."
"Bloody?"
Sure enough, Ji Lei took a stone axe and approached A Yue, then produced a hand; in an instant, the sharp axe sliced A Yue's wrist open.
Instantly, blood gushed.
"Wrist cut?"
She was bewildered, expecting A Yue to be thrown to the Wolf Pack and devoured like the High Priest, not a wrist cut; suddenly… "Wooo…"
Instantly, strange sounds echoed through the forest, followed by bird calls; the tribe members, hearing the bird cries, dared not look any longer and fled back.
"Ying, what is that sound?"
"It's a Death Bird."
Axi cleared up her confusion, but her face was terrified; Nan Qinghuan furrowed her brows, looking at the huge birds flying in, Death Birds?
The appearance of the Death Birds terrified the tribe, and they all fled; only A Yue on the altar screamed in agony, her blood pouring out faster and faster, soon forming a river of blood. She went from whimpering to a faint low moan; having lost too much blood, she could no longer shout.
Quickly, several birds materialized on the Sacrificial Altar; seeing them, Nan Qinghuan's mind exploded, "Winter Bird?"
These Winter Birds are carnivorous creatures from the Cretaceous era; they relish fresh human blood and flesh. Unexpectedly, when they saw A Yue they became ecstatic; soon A Yue's scream echoed from the altar. Nan Qinghuan wanted to watch A Yue die, but could not bear the sight; the birds tore A Yue apart alive and then feasted.
She turned her back, not wanting to watch any longer; Ying, seeing her fear, gently wrapped his arm around her waist, "I told you not to come; you didn't believe it, now you know how terrifying it is?"
Nan Qinghuan felt awkward; she had to admit the tribe's punishments were brutal—either throw someone to the wolves or … Suddenly she seemed to recall something, looked up at him, "If one day I also err, will you treat me the same way you treated A Yue?"
She didn't know why, but she was a bit worried; after all, the ancient people's mindset differed completely from hers— in their eyes, a mistake demands punishment.
And those punishments are often fatal.
Ying didn't know why she suddenly asked that, reached out and gently brushed her cheek, "How could my Huaner have erred?"
"What if I, not understanding the rules, broke the tribe's law—what then?"
She stared at Ying stubbornly; Ying's gaze suddenly grew complex. He looked at her deeply, then pinched her waist, lowered his head and whispered in her ear, "If you break the tribe's law, I'll punish you so you can't get out of bed—see if you still dare."
Nan Qinghuan: "…"
Seeing her terrified, Ying suddenly found it cute, he laughed brightly, "Don't be afraid; I adore you too quickly to ever harm you, unless…"
His eyes instantly darkened, and the air grew heavy.
Nan Qinghuan frowned, "Unless what?"
Ying's gaze held an aggressive glint; he leaned slightly, murmuring in her ear, "Unless you can still run."
Nan Qinghuan was about to say she wouldn't run, when voices from not far away called, "Ying, the Rongdi chieftain requests you."
"Rongdi?"
Ying took a deep breath; fortunately this matter didn't involve him, otherwise he would rather tear his own face apart to kill him.
"Huaner, I'll go handle something first; you go back to the Cave and wait for me."
After Ying left, Ji Lei and Dashan also departed; only Youchao Xuan and Axi came to her side. Youchao Xuan, very respectful toward Nan Qinghuan, said, "Goddess, now A Yue is dead; no one will ever hurt you again."
In Youchao Xuan's heart, Nan Qinghuan was sacred and untouchable; that A Yue truly deserved it!
She turned her head toward the back; the birds were still gnawing A Yue's corpse, blood dripping, the scent of gore filling the air. Though she had grown accustomed to such ancient scenes, she still couldn't help feeling disgusted.
"Alright, A Yue's matter is settled. Youchao Xuan, Axi, you both come with me."
Seeing her mysterious demeanor, Axi hurriedly asked, "Nan Qinghuan, where are we going?"
