Chapter 356: Contact the Gatekeepers! The Plan Against Luo Ge! (Please Subscribe)

~4 min read 645 words

The man in the military uniform said in a hushed voice:

"Now Luo Ge has already grown too powerful to be brought to heel."

"We must come up with a plan that can both minimize the fallout and get rid of Luo Ge."

"Actually, I have a proposal. I had thought of using it against Netero before, and it can just as well be applied to Luo Ge."

"Go contact the Gatekeepers, and have them send over some Disasters."

The Gatekeepers are not human, but members of the Magical Beast race.

They are like a gate, standing at the borderlands of the Dark Continent.

Like a bridge, invisibly linking humanity with the Dark Continent.

Humanity pays a price, and at the same time gives up part of what it has obtained from the Dark Continent, in exchange for their guidance and help.

Their subordinates are called Pathfinders.

The Pathfinders live near Mobius Lake on the edge of the Dark Continent.

Crossing the area where they dwell—

only beyond that lies the Dark Continent in its true sense.

In a way, this too is a "gate" of a different sort.

Pathfinders are a sub-humanoid type of Magical Beast; their strength is terrifyingly great, entirely beyond anything humanity can reach.

Over all these years of exploration by humanity—

not once have they reached the other shore by their own ability.

First, one must make contact with the Gatekeepers through special methods.

Once a mutual understanding is reached, the Gatekeepers will dispatch their sub-humanoid Magical Beast subordinates to lead humans to the Dark Continent.

Hence the name Pathfinder.

Pathfinders are not only immensely powerful, but also extremely familiar with Mobius Lake, and can pick out routes that are easier to traverse.

If one tries to go straight across, even Pathfinders would lose their lives in these waters.

Without the Pathfinders' help, humans cannot even cross the waters of this middle stretch.

This is a lesson paid for in blood countless times!

Any expedition without the Pathfinders' help has, without exception, vanished without a trace, disappearing into that boundless ocean.

Not a single ship has ever returned.

Among humans, only those seated in this very position are able to speak with the Gatekeepers.

The woman's expression shifted slightly, and she instinctively retorted, "Do you have any idea what you're saying?"

"Disasters are terrifyingly dangerous things—you know that perfectly well—and yet you actually want to invite the Gatekeepers to let them in."

The V5 has dispatched personnel 149 times, and only 5 of those trips had survivors return.

Yet every single one of those five times, they brought back a "Disaster" with them.

These are the Five Great Disasters of the Six Continents.

This has only made the V5's wariness toward the Dark Continent grow ever stronger.

As more and more people head to the Dark Continent, the Shibi Society will inevitably bring back even more "Disasters."

When that time comes—

even this small island in Mobius Lake will be unable to escape.

It may very well end up becoming part of the Dark Continent.

Humanity will be left with nowhere left to survive.

Which is also one of the reasons the V5 tries so hard to control the number of people going.

The man in the military uniform's tone did not change. "I'm well aware of that."

"But Disasters come in many types. Different Disasters vary in danger—some high, some low—and among them there are ones we can handle."

"We can have the Gatekeepers find a Class-B Disaster, one that can, to a certain extent, be destroyed with technological weapons."

The few of them exchanged glances.

Then, at the proposal of the man in the suit and the man in the military uniform, the remaining three also changed their minds one after another and agreed to this decision.

A plan targeting Luo Ge is now being set in motion...
