Chapter 126: Upgrade Log (2000 Monthly Votes Bonus Chapter — Seeking Monthly Votes)

~7 min read 1,219 words

In the snowfield, a bright lamp lit up on the roof of the Infinite Train, and under its light, Lin Xian began preparing the Twin Star 11R nuclear-powered electric locomotive.

After bursting out of the tunnel, the front of the train had been battered by countless zombies and human Gui , leaving it disheveled; Lin Xian cleaned and repaired it slightly, then began designing armor for the entire locomotive.

“Being at the rear means we’ll likely face many combat situations…”

Since leaving Jiang City, most battles had occurred in Car 5, whether chases or ambushes—it had become a disaster zone; now, with the nuclear-powered locomotive dragged to the rear, it was an unavoidable choice.

The interior of this locomotive was intricately constructed; a 290-megawatt thermal-power DRX nuclear power core was layered with protective shielding, and with all its supporting equipment, it bore no resemblance to the original Huanxing 7F electric locomotive’s connecting corridor—this compact nuclear facility could only be placed at the rear, given the need to ensure the safety of the entire train.

Lin Xian had no design philosophy—just brute-force stacking. He pulled out the forged inner-armor steel he’d acquired when devouring the heavy TFV600 twin-barrel tank, and combined it with high-hardness tungsten steel to create a double-layer design.

He reused the tank’s armor configuration; Lin Xian was purely self-taught, using anything he could get his hands on.

The Twin Star 11R nuclear-powered electric locomotive was 45 meters long, originally built by the former Federation’s Kehua Heavy Industry, meeting intercontinental train standards; had it not been for this machine, Lin Xian would have felt deeply cheated by his deep incursion into Underground City 9—but luckily, he’d secured it, guaranteeing ample power for the train’s future operations.

Clank. Clank. Clank.

Lin Xian and Da Lou worked nearly five hours before finally installing armor on the nuclear locomotive and the 3rd and 4th experimental cars.

Now, the Infinite Train, including its front and rear power units, totaled nine cars, stretching nearly 300 meters across the dark snowfield like a black behemoth.

“The train’s getting bigger, huh.”

Sha Sha ran from the rear car to the front, holding a can, exclaiming, “It’s almost turned into an aircraft carrier!”

The squad members were currently dining in Car 1; about an hour remained before dawn and departure, and everyone was preparing.

“Longshan Aircraft Carrier: 150,000 tons, Titan Sky-Patrol Ship: 190,000 tons, Bai Di No. 3 Aerospace Vessel: 330,000 tons, Aerospace City—Qing Luan: 960,000 tons—ours is at most 1,500 tons, still far from an aircraft carrier…”

Kiki grinned, “But by the time we reach the Pacific, maybe we’ll be able to fly.”

Sha Sha’s mouth formed an O.

“That jellyfish can fly too—what if we fly up and crash into it?” Da Lou, usually quiet, suddenly blurted out.

Lin Xian shrugged helplessly, “Monsters underground, monsters in the sky—the best solution is to be able to run on land, fly in the air, and if forced, dive deep beneath the ocean.”

Speaking of which, Lin Xian couldn’t help but wonder: if jellyfish could fly, what monsters might lurk beneath the deep ocean?

“By the way, Sha Sha.”

Lin Xian pulled out a metal box filled entirely with the VO-G25 40mm grenade launchers he’d manufactured—fifty of them.

“Whoa!” Sha Sha’s eyes lit up, “So many!”

Lin Xian smiled and handed her the grenade launcher, “When you meet monsters behind us, don’t hold back—blow them all to hell!”

Kiki glanced curiously at him, “Hey, Lin Xian, when are you going to build that 1130 so I can have some fun?”

“That won’t be quick,” Lin Xian grimaced.

Building a full 1130 system wasn’t easy: phased-array and fire-control radar lacked rare earth materials, requiring conversion via the fabrication center; further, integrating it with the train wasn’t as simple as just placing it on the roof.

Since Lin Xian lacked mechanical or weapons knowledge, without blueprints, he could only design crude items—simple doors, armor, cold weapons—none of them precise.

The R&D center, as far as he could tell, could only upgrade specific device blueprints, not invent new ones from scratch; Kiki excelled at systems, but even she couldn’t design these things—like the water-oxygen recycling system, which she’d researched extensively but still hadn’t managed to build; according to her, an AI system could handle the train’s overall design and maintenance.

Kiki added, “And also—mech suits! If you could build one, your mechanical ability would become even stronger.” Lin Xian had thought the same: now that he had the fabrication factory, plus his mechanical manufacturing and drive abilities, a powered exosuit would greatly amplify the power of his Mechanical Heart.

Chen Sixuan remained silent, listening to the others discuss weapon configurations; inside, she felt uneasy—she was the only one here without combat capability, and this weighed on her; she resolved to continue learning firearms from Sha Sha during free time, perhaps it would prove useful after entering Yubei City.

After adjustments, Lin Xian opened side armor doors on Car 1 and Car 5, allowing direct entry and exit; originally, he’d planned to cut a large hole in Car 5 and install a large, detachable cargo lift door.

But this plan was now only added to the Infinite Train’s future upgrade list.

Lin Xian pulled out his train upgrade log and added another entry…

1. Cultivation Car (grow vegetables, fruits, water-oxygen recycling, enrich daily life) (completed, awaiting planting!)

2. Entertainment Zone (play games, watch movies during rest) (on hold—no time to escape, temporarily skipped)

3. Sentinel System (proposed by Kiki, full-train external monitoring and alert) (pending, front radar system completed)

4. Ice-Breaking Shield (for breaking through zombie hordes and clearing snow) (completed, perfect—master-level design!!)

5. Storage Refrigerator (x) Heating Equipment (√) freezing my ass off.

6. Drone Recon System (two captured, sufficient for now)

7. Power Generation System (providing cyclic energy) (completed: Huanxing 7F electric locomotive x, upgraded to Twin Star 11R nuclear-powered electric locomotive, endurance max!!)

!

8. Medical Equipment (none yet, manual bandaging)

9. Industrial Exo-Armor (none x) Humanoid Crane: Kiki √

18. Advanced Combat Armor (awaiting acquisition)…

19. Service Robot x Combat Robot √ (awaiting acquisition)…

15:56, the dark sky suddenly cleared, the snowfield blindingly white.

Lin Xian closed his log, activated his Mechanical Heart to inspect the entire train; after a full night’s work, the Infinite Train prepared to resume its journey toward Yubei City.

“So much snow…”

In the cockpit, Chen Sixuan stared at the thick snow ahead, her expression troubled.

“The snow has stopped—that’s at least good news.” Lin Xian released the brakes; with ample power, the Infinite Train’s engines roared to life, driving the heavy train forward as its ice-breaking shield pushed aside the snow.
