Chapter 132: Entering the City

Buzz buzz buzz~

On the freight tracks of Yubei City, a heavy train slowly pulled out, followed by a long line of trucks and SUVs, all moving in a massive procession toward Yubei City No. 1 Airport.

As the train passed through a valley, the main urban area came into view; with night approaching, the entire city was submerged in gray-black darkness, appearing heavy and desolate.

As the starting city of No. 1 Airport, Yubei City was once the largest industrial and freight port in southwestern China before the Apocalypse, its urban scale highly developed and hailed as the pearl city of Tianhai Province.

All traffic entering the Orbital Ring from Tianhai Province must pass through Yubei City No. 1 Airport; the sky-rail pillars that once propelled the city’s prosperity now stand stretched across the Da Zhu Plateau like tombstones, with the howling wind echoing as if singing a requiem for humanity.

Along both sides of the tracks, zombies began to appear; as the train and vehicles roared past, they started chasing after them.

Gradually, more and more zombies joined the pursuit, yet the convoy seemed long accustomed to this sight, maintaining formation without firing a single shot or losing a single vehicle—disciplined and orderly.

Lin Xian, watching the trailing convoy through the nuclear-powered locomotive’s onboard camera, felt a deep sense of melancholy.

The surviving convoys clearly weren’t ordinary groups, but what surprised him was that Lao Mo, Shu Qin, and Xu Jin’s convoy also possessed numerous strange blood essences—perhaps hiding formidable talents within.

After all, the strange entities he’d encountered were truly...

“Looks like I need to bring more people—if there were a hundred men on board, each armed with a grenade launcher, we’d have a powerful bombardment squad!”

Thinking of this, Lin Xian’s heart stirred; with his arsenal’s ability system, building a heavy-firepower convoy was indeed a viable survival strategy.

Just as Lin Xian was quietly planning and preparing to pull out his upgrade journal, the scene ahead made him freeze in shock.

As the train advanced into the city, the tracks were flanked by high walls and barbed wire, yet beyond the wire, roads and streets teemed with countless human heads, stretching far into the distance like a swirling black tide.

Aaaahhh!!!!

The vibrations triggered the zombies’ howls.

Shu Qin, Xu Jin, Lao Mo, and others in the rear saw this sight and each turned pale.

A city-wide horde of zombies!

“Attention! Do not fire! Do not fire! Stay close to the Infinite! Do not fall behind!” came Xu Jin’s cold voice over the radio.

With such a massive horde, if it breached the tracks or the convoy scattered, unless they were heavy trucks, ordinary SUVs would be instantly overwhelmed the moment they drew near.

The deeper they entered the city, the more zombies filled the surrounding streets, spreading as if every road was teeming with them.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

As the convoy moved steadily forward, a series of explosions suddenly echoed from distant city streets, growing louder.

Simultaneously, continuous gunfire and engine roars reverberated through the streets.

Lin Xian scanned the scene and saw the dense clusters of zombies drifting along the right-front street suddenly surge toward a specific direction, as if stimulated by the noise.

The scene became bizarre: zombies near the convoy rushed toward the track’s barbed wire and walls, while those farther away sprinted toward the louder explosions.

“It looks like another convoy is fighting over there,” came Shu Qin’s voice over the radio.

Xu Jin replied calmly: “Everyone stay alert. It doesn’t affect us yet—don’t break formation.”

“Send out a drone to check.”

Lin immediately communicated through the in-vehicle channel to Kiki, who responded with perfect coordination; both drones took off and followed the train, flying toward the distant streets.

Taptaptap!!

Gunfire and collisions, screeching brakes—all grew closer; the drones quickly transmitted footage.

“Got it! There’s a large convoy—but they’re not fleeing, they’re chasing another convoy!” Kiki exclaimed, “Pursuit and slaughter?”

In this city teeming with zombies, what deep grudge could drive them to attack each other now?

Lin Xian immediately synced the information to the convoy channel.

Hearing this, Shu Qin in the rear truck sensed something was off and ordered the earlier drone to ascend and approach.

Watching the car footage appearing at the street entrance, Shu Qin’s face paled; she grabbed the radio and shouted:

“I recognize that vehicle—that large convoy is the Black Crow Quartet!”

At these words, Xu Jin and Lao Mo both turned pale; even Lu Xingchen inside the RV stopped whistling, glancing sharply toward the distant street as he drove.

“Didn’t they only have four people and four vehicles?” Lin Xian frowned.

“I don’t know—maybe they absorbed other convoys to grow stronger, but several vehicles definitely bear the Black Crow Quartet’s paint scheme.”

“What’s going on?” Chen Sixuan asked.

“The group we heard about on the radio before,” Lin Xian replied.

Chen Sixuan looked worried: “They’ve come this far—don’t they fear other survivor groups or the Phoenix Society coming after them?”

“Yubei City has fallen. I suspect no one controls anything except the airport.”

Lin Xian couldn’t fathom what those lunatics were planning—targeting psychics—was their goal to enhance their abilities this way?

“With so many of us here, they probably won’t attack us, right?”

Lin Xian’s face turned icy: “We’ll see if they come near—if they dare approach...”

“Then we strike first!”

Though their immediate priority was reaching the airport, Lin Xian knew these were the very people who once commanded the zombie horde to annihilate them; unless this grudge was settled, he wouldn’t be able to sleep soundly.

Especially after hearing Shu Qin mention the existence of a psychic ability that could control zombies—such power in the hands of allies would be a devastating weapon, but in the hands of these monsters, it was an absolute catastrophe!

“Dabao Shasha, stay alert! Kiki, if anyone tries to breach our formation, eliminate them immediately!”

“Got it, got it!” came Shasha’s voice from the distant car via the radio.

“You got it!”

In Car 2, Kiki sat cross-legged on a bench, a smile on her face, occasionally floating and swaying as if thoroughly enjoying her evolved ability.

“Leader Lin, if that group spots us, they’ll likely attack immediately.”

Shu Qin pulled out a black Remington M96 from behind her seat, her expression grim and deadly: “They’re nothing but madmen!”

Lin Xian watched the mist in the city grow denser, his expression hardening as he spoke into the radio:

“I know—the fog’s rolling in. Everyone hold formation. I’ll keep watch on them.”

“If it’s gonna be a fight, then these old men will lend a hand too,” came Lao Mo’s bright voice over the radio.

“Good,” Xu Jin said, gazing at the distant streets, his face stern as he radioed all vehicles to prepare for combat.
