Chapter 19: Ability User

~7 min read 1,324 words

'Ah!'

Lin Xian roared, his blood surging as he charged straight through the hail of bullets and gunfire!

Boom!

Facing the high-speed collision of a 200-ton heavy gas turbine vehicle, the thin-skinned sedan blocking the path was instantly crushed in half—sparks flew, debris scattered everywhere; inside the cabin, Lin Xian and Chen Sixuan felt only a slight jolt before the vehicle surged forward.

It was as simple as driving over a broken cardboard box.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets rained down on the all-metal body, leaving only faint white marks; one ricocheting round even pierced clean through the thigh of one of Liu Wei’s subordinates.

'Ah!'

The subordinate immediately clutched his bleeding thigh in agony.

In an instant, the train raced past; seeing this, Liu Wei felt his authority shattered and flew into a rage—his eyes flashed green, his shirt exploded apart, and four You green tentacles sprouted from his back, swiftly writhing like a fast spider as he chased after the train along the tracks.

These four tentacles possessed immense strength, capable of lifting tons of weight, and moved with extraordinary agility; after training, Liu Wei discovered his power and speed could keep improving, so he proudly dubbed himself 'Four-Winged Heavenly King.'

Thud!

Just as Lin Xian and Chen Sixuan thought they had broken through the ambush, a strange sound appeared on top of the train.

Lin Xian’s expression tightened; he immediately slowed the train’s speed and grabbed his short knife.

He had to reduce speed—otherwise he wouldn’t have enough focus to handle emergencies.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

Something seemed to be climbing atop the train; Chen Sixuan shrank into a ball in fear. Lin Xian, hearing the noise, recoiled sharply—when suddenly, a middle-aged man with tentacles appeared right before the window.

'Good kid, got some guts, daring to charge through my checkpoint!'

When Liu Wei saw Lin Xian was just a youth in the driver’s cabin, he spat out a curse—but then his gaze swept over Chen Sixuan, curled up in the aisle, and his eyes suddenly lit up.

'Oh? There’s a beauty too.'

Chen Sixuan stared at Liu Wei’s writhing tentacles, her face turning pale—his appearance was nearly identical to a movie monster: eyes glowing green, four disgusting tentacles undulating.

An ability user!?

Lin Xian’s heart leapt—he hadn’t expected one of the ambushers to be an ability user.

This was his first encounter with an ability user, and it differed wildly from his expectations.

After all, he never imagined a person could grow tentacles—was this an ability or nuclear radiation?

Thud!

Without a word, Liu Wei slammed one tentacle into the windshield, instantly cracking it into a spiderweb pattern.

Lin Xian was stunned—the train’s windshield was at least 10–15mm high-strength glass; rifle bullets barely left white marks, yet this man had cracked it with a single blow—what terrifying strength was this?!

Liu Wei was equally shocked—he knew his tentacles’ power well; this strike hadn’t even shattered the glass, meaning the train’s protective grade was higher than he’d assumed.

'Damn it!'

Lin Xian’s expression turned icy—he slammed on the brakes, bringing the train to a rapid halt.

But Liu Wei, seeing Lin Xian leave the driver’s seat, hadn’t anticipated the train would stop so abruptly—he lost his balance and was flung backward by inertia.

'Close the door!'

Lin Xian dodged past Chen Sixuan, grabbed his short knife, and opened the rear door to the cabin.

Chen Sixuan, startled by the sudden stop, cried out, 'What are you doing?!'

'Killing him!'

Bang!

Lin Xian leapt out, then slammed the metal door shut. He knew well: an ability user like Liu Wei could catch up to the train and break through its defenses—hiding inside meant waiting to die. Better to eliminate him now than wait for him to shatter the windshield.

If the windshield broke, he’d need hours to repair it; once night fell and his aura was exposed, encountering that monster from last night might end him far worse.

Liu Wei tumbled head over heels, roaring as he rose—then saw the young driver descending the train with a steel blade, and couldn’t help laughing.

'Wanna be a hero and save the damsel, huh? Hah!' He sneered, his tentacles spreading wide, towering menacingly—'Sorry, today I’m taking your life, your train, and I’ll take good care of your woman too.'

Lin Xian’s gaze hardened—he spoke no word, raised his hand, and unleashed a fully charged wind cannon straight at Liu Wei’s face!

Tsuu!

A furious wind lance shot forth; Liu Wei, seeing Lin Xian raise his hand, tried to react—but suddenly felt as if a sledgehammer had smashed his forehead, sending him flying backward.

'Shit! An ability user!'

Liu Wei’s heart lurched—he instantly realized his opponent was also an ability user. He’d only just awakened himself, with almost no combat experience; caught off-guard by this ambush, cold sweat poured down his back.

But his physical strength and reflexes had surged since awakening; with a single thought, though flung backward, one tentacle shot out like lightning, wrapping tightly around Lin Xian’s ankle.

Beside the tracks lay a deep ravine slope; mid-air, Liu Wei tried using his other tentacles to stabilize himself—but they tore through the chain-link fence surrounding the rails, dragging both him and Lin Xian tumbling down the slope.

Lin Xian hadn’t expected Liu Wei’s bulky tentacles to move so fast—and his close-range wind cannon had only sent him flying, leaving merely a shallow dent on his forehead. The defense of ability users was simply terrifying.

!

His ankle was now bound—immense constriction pressure surged through him, making him hiss in pain.

Had his strength and defense not been enhanced, that single squeeze would’ve snapped his ankle clean off.

Whirrrr!

The world spun wildly; Liu Wei’s tentacles kept snapping through bushes along the way, yet the fall didn’t stop. Lin Xian dropped his short knife, hugged his head, and was dragged by Liu Wei all the way down to the riverbed at the slope’s base.

Excruciating pain!

When Lin Xian finally forced his eyelids open, agony tore through every part of his body. He scanned immediately—and saw Liu Wei, tentacles flaring, staggering to his feet not far away.

Because Liu Wei had been in front, his massive, tentacled body had cleared away sharp rocks and thorny plants along the path—he was now drenched in blood, utterly battered.

'Ugh! Motherfucker!'

Though his defense had improved, Liu Wei’s back was now ripped open to the bone, one knee joint dislocated—he bit down so hard his molars nearly shattered.

Enraged, Liu Wei glared at Lin Xian, who’d been dragged down with him. He no longer dared underestimate him—this man had flung him into the air with bare hands. What kind of ability was this? He couldn’t comprehend it.

In this situation, he had to fight to the death—he had to strike first!

But when his gaze fixed on the prone Lin Xian, he saw the youth’s eyes wide open—and one finger pointed directly at his forehead.

Shit, again?!

Having been burned once, Liu Wei’s heart jolted—he instantly extended all four tentacles to shield his face.

But no attack came. Instead, the motion tore open his already deep back wounds again—blood gushed forth, nearly making him faint.

A feint?!

Liu Wei had no time to scream—he opened his tentacles, only to see the youth scrambling forward like a hunting dog, lunging with lethal intent to punch his exposed face.

Boom!

Lin Xian’s full-power punch nearly shattered Liu Wei’s entire nose—he saw black, his tentacles reflexively lashing out wildly—but all missed.

He never expected such a young man to strike with such ferocity and cunning, to use a feint—how could a middle-aged man who’d spent years in the vegetable market possibly react?

Having taken two brutal blows in a row, Liu Wei was starting to fear.

His convoy had only been out for a day—and already, the scent of death was closing in on him.
