Chapter 491
What do you mean by “enemy and self share the same origin”?
Lin Xian frowned: “Are you suggesting that human psychic power and the Guiyiti share the same source?”
“This no longer needs proof,” Ding Jun lowered her head, typing on the keyboard without looking up. “The discovery of cold dark base particles and the dark energy symmetry data have made our understanding of dark energy increasingly clear. If you want an analogy, it’s like oxygen on Blue Star—it’s the foundation of our life. Similarly, dark energy is the foundation of those Guiyiti .”
“So humans gained psychic abilities because they mutated under the influence of this ‘oxygen’?” Lin Xian shook his head. “Even if we try to explain it scientifically, the differences between individual psychic systems don’t seem like random bodily mutations.”
“You’re right!”
Ding Jun turned around. “What I mean by ‘enemy and self share the same origin’ is exactly this.”
Lin Xian’s expression slowly grew grave.
“Are you suggesting that the psychic system a human awakens is traceable—that it’s ‘bestowed’ under certain conditions?”
Ding Jun fell silent for a second, then said: “There’s still no solid evidence, but after compiling years of data on disaster plants, taboo objects, and all psychic personnel, I’ve formed a hypothesis. I think disaster plants are essentially organic matter native to Blue Star, while taboo objects are random inorganic substances. These anomalous entities emit unique properties, forcing us to think only in terms of myths or magical artifacts.”
“Even forcing a scientific explanation won’t work,” Lin Xian said.
“I understand what you mean,” Ding Jun adjusted her glasses, speaking directly. “Mythology itself is humanity’s fantasy extended from nature. Conversely, if awakening those strange elemental powers requires such conditions, doesn’t that imply the civilization behind them already mastered forces capable of regulating nature, biology, and physics?”
Lin Xian blinked in surprise: “Alright, I still don’t get it.”
Ding Jun looked at him, her voice icy: “I hate beating around the bush. My hypothesis is this: human psychics and the Guiyiti created by the Dark Maternal Nest follow the same logic. Human crystalline grids can fully harness dark energy; the Guiyiti ’s blood essence can too. In other words, psychics and Guiyiti are identical—both are organisms transformed by dark energy. But before crystalline evolution, humans relied on their own life force and spiritual energy to bear this power. Ninety-nine percent of people couldn’t withstand it, so their biological logic was shattered, turning them into mindless, power-driven corpses. This also explains why the Falcon Sea Corps’ members doubled their Soul-Resonance values immediately after crystalline evolution—because the crystalline grid itself is humanity’s own blood essence, born from dark energy’s nurturing!”
“Of course, these are still just my theoretical hypotheses, lacking experimental evidence. I’m telling you this loosely because it effectively and reasonably explains many unresolved issues in our research.”
Lin Xian’s face darkened. “Which issues?”
“First, the zombie problem. Excluding viral transmission, the infinite vitality of individuals can be partially explained.”
“Second, the evolution problem. Human adaptation to darkness and mutation is essentially walking the edge of transformation by dark energy.”
“Third, the crystalline grid problem. This is also a question you and the Phoenix Society have both raised. Perhaps the Phoenix Society has already entertained this hypothesis and is conducting extensive comparative research.”
Lin Xian nodded. “I’ve thought the same. A crystalline core growing inside a human body looks exactly like a Guiyiti .”
He shrugged, turning back to Ding Jun. “But this still circles back to the original question: if ‘same origin’ means dark energy, then it’s logical that human psychic abilities and evolution resemble those of Guiyiti . What’s the problem?”
“The ‘same origin’ I mean isn’t the ‘oxygen’—it’s the individual,” Ding Jun walked to the side. Her green clothing withered and fell away rapidly. She took a file from beside the bed and tossed it to Lin Xian, then slowly dressed herself. “Look at this.”
Lin Xian opened it. It was an early classified document from the Angel Project—he was familiar with it; Kiki had shown him this back in Beiwan.
“I’ve seen this. The earliest psychic assessment and investigation reports. The term ‘Soul-Resonance Value’ originated from this Angel Project, didn’t it?”
As he flipped through it, Lin Xian said: “Psychic systems, peak assessments—the Phoenix Society later refined this framework.”
Ding Jun slipped on her coat with fluid grace, shook out her hair, and strode straight to Lin Xian. She opened the file to one page and pointed to the end.
Lin Xian’s gaze fell on it. His pupils contracted. “Over-Awakening and Psychic Zombies—I’ve seen this before. Some psychics, after awakening, immediately reached Diamond-level or higher Soul-Resonance peaks. I heard from a Night Walker named Zhou Wuer—he was like that. Wen Zhuo too. Many top-tier members within the Phoenix Society are the same. As for the sudden disappearance of psychic abilities...”
*Snap.* Lin Xian closed the file and looked at Ding Jun. “Just tell me.”
Ding Jun took a slow breath, her gaze steady on Lin Xian. “Do you think there’s a connection between a psychic’s ability vanishing and the destruction of a specific Guiyiti ?”
Lin Xian’s pupils shrank violently. He sucked in a sharp breath. “You mean ‘enemy and self share the same origin’ is this?!”
Ding Jun glanced sideways. “If taboo objects and disaster plants are singularities refracted from some dark world’s ‘natural phenomena,’ then human psychics are the ‘refraction’ of advanced Guiyiti onto Blue Star’s life forms. That’s entirely understandable.”
“Understandable?”
“Is this conclusion so shocking?”
“It’s the collapse of heaven and earth,” Lin Xian’s face darkened. “If this is true, then all human psychic evolution is meaningless.”
Ding Jun seemed to anticipate his reaction. She slipped her hands into her pockets and looked at him with soothing calm. “Don’t be alarmed. If this were proven, it could actually be beneficial to humanity in some ways.”
Lin Xian gave a silent laugh. “Psychics—especially those who’ve undergone crystalline evolution—are now humanity’s greatest asset against the apocalypse, second only to the Interstellar Army and the Emperor Project. Every major organization is pushing psychics to evolve, break limits, and seek higher thresholds, hoping to find a way to save human civilization. Now, a 20,000 Soul-Resonance psychic can defeat Special-Class monsters. Everyone believes that if Soul-Resonance reaches 50,000 or 100,000, even S-Class, Corpse-Drivers, or World-Class entities could be defeated. And now you tell the world that psychics are merely refractions of Guiyiti on Earth? That’s the same as saying humanity can never defeat those dark monsters!”
Ding Jun shrugged. “If this theory is proven, several directions become worth considering: One, if a Guiyiti ’s death causes a psychic’s ability to vanish, does a psychic’s death affect the Guiyiti ? That’s an extreme thought. Two, from a game theory perspective, no current psychic can single-handedly handle an S-Class, Corpse-Driver, or World-Class entity. If the first point holds, a psychic’s strategic value would skyrocket. Three, if balance is maintained—where psychics and Guiyiti exert equal strategic deterrence—could human technological power become the critical factor tipping the scales?”
Lin Xian rubbed his temples, eyes shut. “What nonsense. If psychics could match Guiyiti in strategic deterrence, Shuguang City wouldn’t have been crushed so badly.”
Ding Jun’s gaze locked onto him. “On one condition: the Dark Civilization knows we’ve discovered this—and the countermeasure.”
Lin Xian’s eyes snapped open. He froze. Their gazes met—and in his mind, thunder exploded.
He stepped back two paces, his mind racing. Ding Jun’s words were all hypotheses—but this idea illuminated countless unresolved mysteries of the world. He scoured his memory, retracing past events, each thought making his scalp crawl.
If Ding Jun was right, humanity’s deterrence against the Dark might be deeply tied to this.
“Project Crescent Moon...”
“Linking S-Class...”
