Chapter 83: Frequency Band
Chen Sixuan’s gaze sharpened; countless times when the team faced danger, she had only been able to hide in the safest spot inside the vehicle. Though Lin Xian believed she had helped, after enduring so many fierce battles, her resolve had grown tougher—she felt she needed to learn at least some self-defense skills, and now that Lin Xian was gone, this need had become even stronger.
Shasha stared at Chen Sixuan in surprise, sticking out her tongue. “Fine, but I’m not good with it either—I only know how to fire, I have no idea how to aim this sniper rifle properly.”
“It’s fine,” Chen Sixuan walked over and took down the sniper rifle; the moment she gripped it, it felt suddenly heavy. She gritted her teeth and lifted it, exhaling softly. “It’s indeed very heavy… but if we face another monster like before, this gun might actually be useful.”
“Definitely!”
Shasha nodded. “This thing’s powerful, with a very long range. I’ve seen it on TV—single shot can pierce straight through a car, biubiu~”
“Sis Chen, this is the trigger, the safety’s here.”
“Mm, got it.”
“This is the bipod—big guns like this usually need one. Unless you’re incredibly strong, you can’t fire prone without support…”
“What’s ‘without support’?”
“Holding it up empty. It’s too heavy—you couldn’t manage it. Also, this is the M3 optical 10x super scope—it lets you see far. Sis Chen, set up the rifle first and try it. Oh, and the recoil on this gun is usually strong—watch your stance.”
“Got it!”
As if her drowsiness vanished, Chen Sixuan, with Shasha’s help, began seriously studying the rifle’s components and aiming principles.
Thump-thump~
Suddenly, a sound came—both women froze.
“Sis Chen!”
Shasha whispered.
“That sound… it’s from outside.”
Chen Sixuan frowned and immediately signaled silence, then tiptoed to the window and lifted a sunshade panel.
A flashlight beam flashed suddenly beside the vehicle.
Chen Sixuan instantly clapped a hand over her mouth.
Someone’s outside!
Whoosh-whoosh~
In the night, snow and wind intensified; the entire train had been darkened.
Chen Sixuan and Shasha stood inside Car 1, tense, peering outward.
“Looks like more than one person,” Shasha whispered. “Sis Chen, our train might be being watched.”
Chen Sixuan looked uneasy. “This stretch is a key route toward Dalaoshan and Yubei City, close to the highway. Someone probably saw our stopped train and came to investigate.”
“What should we do? Should we respond?” Shasha asked.
“Have you ever encountered this before?”
“Before… my brother and I would meet other teams on the road, but most just went their own way. Sometimes friendly groups would exchange info during the day or cluster their convoys at night. But now… others are probably just curious…”
Chen Sixuan shook her head. “Let’s wait and see. It’s already night—outside is dangerous. If they’re just other survivors checking things out, they’ll probably leave after a quick look. But if they have ill intent, we must be careful.”
Shasha nodded.
“Yeah, Brother Lin already upgraded our armor—we should still be safe.”
Chen Sixuan nodded, then suddenly remembered something. She pulled Shasha close and whispered in her ear.
“Go warn your brother—have him watch the rear. We still have two vehicles on the trailer.”
“Oh right!”
Shasha’s eyes widened. Those two vehicles sat exposed on the trailer—if someone quietly stole them, it would be a major loss.
Realizing this, she immediately crouched and sprinted toward the rear.
Chen Sixuan walked to the cockpit and peered out through the window. Night was pitch-black; faint rustling sounds came from the tracks—several footsteps seemed to be approaching. As they drew nearer, she stepped back quickly and hid in the shadow of the corridor.
Bang-bang~
At that moment, someone began climbing onto the locomotive. A flashlight beam suddenly shone inside, scanning the interior.
“Huh? No one here?” a man whispered.
“Maybe they’re sleeping in another car?” another said. “Be careful—this whole train’s armored. It’s definitely not a regular train.”
“You keep watch here. I’ll go contact the others.”
“Alright…”
…
In the shadows, Chen Sixuan pressed her hand tightly over her mouth. While the flashlight wasn’t pointing her way, she slipped quietly into Car 1, grabbed the radio, and hid in a corner.
“Shasha, there are several of them—be careful.”
“Got it. If they try anything, we’ll fire a warning shot.”
“Yes, first scare them off—show we’re armed. If they’re just ordinary survivor groups, they’ll probably run.”
“Sis Chen, they’re watching us without moving—maybe they’re planning something. If it comes to a fight, should we drive away?”
Shasha’s voice, anxious, came through the radio.
Chen Sixuan’s face darkened—she clearly saw their situation.
!
The train was dark, its roof covered in snow—this might send the wrong signal to others.
“Absolutely not—Lin Xian hasn’t returned yet…”
Her gaze shifted to the rear, where the radio still sat quietly on the sofa.
Her subconscious told her Lin Xian was still on the train—if she drove off now, she might cause him trouble.
“Right… Brother Lin… hey, Sis Chen, listen.”
As she spoke, the two women suddenly heard an extremely faint noise coming from Car 3 to Car 2.
This time, the sound was inside the train.
For some reason, hearing it, Chen Sixuan felt both fear and relief—they both sensed this noise was from Lin Xian, meaning he was still alive!
Bang-bang-bang!
Suddenly, gunfire erupted from Car 5.
Dada was firing his machine gun through a firing port beside the rear ramp—he’d spotted several sneaky figures who had circled around to the rear, climbed onto their flatbed trailer, and were now unfastening the steel chains securing the cars.
The machine gun’s roar echoed through the valley; a stream of metal rounds struck the trailer’s side and the snow, kicking up sparks and snow dust.
The intruders instantly scattered in panic; one unlucky man took a round straight through the shoulder, blood spraying everywhere as he screamed in agony.
The gunfire instantly terrified the night’s predators—the group vanished into the darkness.
Aaagh!!
The loud gunfire drew howls from numerous zombies, who surged rapidly from the hills toward the train.
“They’ve climbed onto the train!”
Shasha raised her grenade launcher and spoke into the radio. “Sis Chen, stay safe.”
Tension spiked.
Hearing Shasha’s words, Chen Sixuan frowned—but now her focus could only be on the train interior, searching for any sign from Lin Xian.
She didn’t turn on the lights, carefully observing every sound inside.
Suddenly, all the train’s lights snapped on—Chen Sixuan jumped, staring at the overhead bulbs, puzzled.
With a suspicion forming, she walked to the light control panel.
Click.
She turned the lights off again.
