Chapter 4: Taking Yang Jian and Yang Chan on the Run, the Furious Nuwa

~13 min read 2,590 words

He summoned auspicious clouds, and Gu Xiu took Yang Jian and Yang Chan to the East Sea.

It was their first time standing on the auspicious clouds, and both Yang Jian and Yang Chan felt excited and delighted.

They had not yet cultivated, although they had awakened the inner power that allowed them to fly.

But they could only fly low, never having flown this high before.

Looking down from heaven at the mortal world, the two felt as if they had discovered a new continent.

After the excitement, Yang Jian asked about what had just happened,

"Master, was what you just used also the heavenly eye?"

Seeing Gu Xiu's eyes burst forth with divine light, instantly slaying the heavenly soldiers and generals, Yang Jian was greatly shocked, feeling his own heavenly eye was mere child's play.

Gu Xiu did not deny: "That's about right."

"I don't know if my disciple's heavenly eye can match yours."

Not wanting to discourage Yang Jian, Gu Xiu said calmly: "There are many kinds of heavenly eye; yours differs from mine, but if you use it well, you can also unleash great power."

Yang Jian had not cultivated yet, relying only on his innate power and heavenly eye, he could repel the Giant Spirit God and the heavenly soldiers and generals, showing that the heavenly eye's might is not to be underestimated.

Hearing this, Yang Jian felt a bit disheartened: "Master, my heavenly eye can only unleash power in times of crisis; so far I cannot use it skillfully."

Gu Xiu thought: "Getting to the East Sea will still take some time; along the way, I will teach you how to skillfully use your heavenly eye, and also tell you about my Jie Sect."

Yang Jian and Yang Chan both perked up their ears to listen.

Gu Xiu spoke slowly: "To become proficient with the heavenly eye is simple; you need to relax body and mind, achieve a state free of distracting thoughts, imagine placing your heavenly eye in your heart, accumulate all your power, release it through the heavenly eye, and practice a few more times."

"Thank you for your guidance, Master." If not in the heavens, Yang Jian would have wanted to practice right away.

Gu Xiu nodded: "Having spoken of the heavenly eye, let us speak of the Jie Sect; my Jie Sect is the gate of the sages, the greatest teaching in the Primordial era, with myriad immortals paying homage, and our patriarch is the Supreme Purity Sage."

Since he was already a disciple of the Jie Sect, Gu Xiu chose to speak of the good points, otherwise he feared he could not fool this young Yang Jian.

Upon hearing this, Yang Jian never imagined his own sect could be so powerful.

No wonder he dares guarantee that he will one day storm the Heavenly Court — it's a foregone conclusion.

His reverence for Gu Xiu grew ever stronger.

……

Elsewhere.

In the Chaos.

Nuwa Palace.

Nuwa killed Mile, then returned, finding her anger still not appeased.

Taiqing, Yuanshi, Jieyin, and Zhunti actually joined forces to scheme against her.

Sitting in the chief seat, the more she thought, the angrier she became.

"Among the Six Saints, you three purities and the Western donkey are two factions; only I, the Sovereign, fight alone, so I have always stayed out of worldly affairs, not contending with you, nor lifting a finger, which makes you think I am easy to bully, right?"

"Have you all forgotten that I was the first to attain sainthood among the Six Saints, or that I found the chance to become a sage through the laws of creation, while you all established your teachings on the foundation of the human race I created?"

Nuwa's eyes slightly closed as she began to ponder.

Having already killed Mile, she might as well tear faces with Jieyin and Zhunti.

Better to go big: directly assault Sumeru Mountain to establish her prestige.

To dispel any ill intentions toward her.

She imagined breaking through the void, stepped in with one foot, and vanished into the Chaos.

……

Sumeru Mountain.

Jieyin and Zhunti were giving a lecture to their disciples.

They inexplicably felt a pang of anxiety.

The two exchanged a glance and then stopped.

Zhunti voiced the unease in his heart.

"Senior brother, I don't know why, but ever since just now my mind has been unsettled."

Jieyin wore an expression of sympathy for heaven and pity for humanity: "Junior brother, I feel the same; it seems I have lost something, and I also have a bad premonition."

Heavenly Dao saints, the strongest combat units of the Primordial era, capable of making saints feel uneasy — this must be a major event.

The two dared not be careless; they planned to jointly deduce the cause, and then sensed Nuwa's arrival.

Baffled, Nuwa had never before come to Sumeru Mountain.

When Nuwa appeared, Jieyin and Zhunti intended to greet her, but saw her throw Mile's corpse over.

The two took a close look, and their faces drastically changed.

The struggle between Dao and demons had exhausted the spiritual veins of the Western lands, leaving the soil barren.

The beings born in the West were generally ordinary; Mile was a disciple of the Western Sect with relatively good karmic fortune, the one whom they had painstakingly nurtured as their foremost disciple, yet he was killed like this, filling them with intense anger.

The compassion in Jieyin's eyes was replaced by fury: "Nuwa junior sister, we don't know how Mile offended you, but as a saint, how could you inflict such a vicious hand on a junior?"

Zhunti's eyes also blazed with angry fire: "If Mile offended Nuwa junior sister, we could have him make amends; why must you resort to such a killing blow? If Nuwa junior sister does not give an explanation today, we will certainly not let this rest."

"Shut up, you donkeys! You are nominal disciples; you should address me as Senior Sister, or if you prefer, as fellow cultivator. Being called Senior Sister makes me nauseous." Nuwa had already decided upon arrival to go big, establish her prestige, and from now on those who scheme against her will have to weigh their actions.

Hearing this, Jieyin and Zhunti were stunned; by seniority, they indeed ought to call her Senior Sister.

But Nuwa, who stays out of worldly affairs and does not contend, they had taken advantage of that to always call her Junior Sister, and she had never objected — little expecting today she would change her usual manner.

They glanced at each other, unaware why Nuwa was behaving so unusually.

"Nuwa, we don't know what's wrong with you, but you must give an explanation today, or this matter will never end!" Jieyin said.

Nuwa's beautiful brows slightly furrowed as she spoke coldly.

"Should I give you an explanation? You had Mile confuse Emperor Zhou to write a poem at my temple — shouldn't you be giving me an explanation? If you don't provide one, today's matter will not be settled."

Nuwa displayed the images from the memory stone to prevent Jieyin and Zhunti from making excuses.

Seeing the image of Maitreya causing trouble in Nuwa's temple, Jieyin and Zhunti's faces showed different expressions.

They jointly acted to conceal the heavenly secrets, preventing Nuwa from noticing, doing it seamlessly.

Which despicable thing recorded this matter and handed it over to Nuwa?

Jieyin said, "Nuwa fellow Daoist, this was Maitreya's personal doing; we are completely unaware."

"Although Maitreya did this, Nuwa fellow Daoist, to immediately move to suppress and kill is really going too far," Zhunti said with a look of anguish and indignation.

"Excessive?" Nuwa sneered, "Your sect's disciples are undisciplined; if you don't produce something to compensate today, I will smash this place."

"You dare!" Zhunti said.

Having come to the door, Nuwa naturally would not be threatened; she directly threw the red embroidered ball, smashing a corner of the merit pool at the center of Mount Sumeru, and then lightly said, "I dare."

"Nuwa, you are bullying too much!"

In their presence, smashing the Western Sect's merit pool was outright a slap to the face; Zhunti couldn't bear it, went up and started fighting with Nuwa.

The erupting vast holy might made heaven and earth tremble.

But after just a few exchanges, Zhunti fell into a disadvantage and was beaten back by Nuwa.

Jieyin looked, and furrowed their brows.

They had never seen Nuwa make a move, let alone after becoming a saint.

Not even before becoming a saint had they seen her act.

Before becoming a saint, she had always been protected by Fuxi; later she became the Nuwa emperor of the demon court, only in name, and did not participate in the demon–witch conflict.

After becoming a saint, Nuwa never competed with them over who was stronger or weaker, so they all regarded her as the weakest of the six saints, never taking her along in anything.

Unexpectedly, Nuwa could actually beat back Zhunti.

After being repelled, Zhunti's eyes also showed disbelief that he would be inferior to Nuwa, the one the six saints jointly acknowledged as the weakest; ashamed and angry, he charged forward again.

This time Nuwa directly gave him a violent beating; his whole body flew backward, and in the process knocked down several Seven Treasures Pagodas, heavily smashing into the distant hills.

Seeing that Zhunti was no match for Nuwa, Jieyin did not go over to help.

"Nuwa, we are all Heavenly Dao saints; you are alone while we are two, the advantage is ours—today you will surely bring disgrace upon yourself, I, Jieyin, say."

Nuwa mocked, "Do you two bald donkeys even deserve to be mentioned alongside me? You should think about how to repay the merit you owe the Heavenly Dao."

Those words struck a sore spot for Jieyin and Zhunti; the Western lands are barren, causing them, when they became saints, to only be able to borrow merit from the Heavenly Dao.

"Nuwa, stop showing off your tongue there."

In the Western lands, the first great battle of saints since the creation of heaven erupted.

The vast holy might spread throughout the Primordial heavens and earth; countless beings trembled with fear under this terrifying pressure, silent as cicadas in winter.

Jieyin and Zhunti thought that by joining forces they could overcome Nuwa.

Unexpectedly, even after joining forces, they were still being beaten down, and both ended up with bruised noses and swollen faces.

……

Shouyang Mountain

Taiqing Laozi was leisurely refining pills; feeling waves of holy might erupting across the Primordial, doubt arose.

Taiqing Laozi sensed three streams of holy might.

Taiqing Laozi immediately knew it was Nuwa, Jieyin, and Zhunti who had erupted in conflict.

Taiqing Laozi furrowed brows in thought.

"Nuwa, how did you run to Mount Sumeru and start fighting with Jieyin and Zhunti?"

Nuwa's disposition is indifferent; she does not concern herself with worldly affairs.

This is Taiqing Laozi's impression of Nuwa.

It is hard to imagine what matter would cause her to go to Mount Sumeru and fight.

Taiqing Laozi then thought of something.

"Could it be that matter let Nuwa know?"

The joint scheme of the Human and Chan sects and the Western Sect was to let King Zhou compose poetry to defame Nuwa, making her bear this great karma as the beginning of the Investiture of the Gods, which they plotted together.

Thus Taiqing Laozi understood clearly.

……

Kunlun Mountain

Jade Void Palace

Yuanshi Tianzun also looked bewildered, not understanding how Nuwa went up to Mount Sumeru.

Yuanshi Tianzun: brows tightly locked, considering various causes.

Yuanshi Tianzun's face slightly darkened.

"Jieyin and Zhunti, these two idiots, surely they didn't mess up that matter, did they?"

Yuanshi Tianzun also looked at the situation on Mount Sumeru and couldn't help but curse.

"These two idiots are truly useless; they can't even handle Nuwa."

……

Gold Turtle Island

Azure Wanderer Palace

Tong Tian ordered his disciples to return and silently recite the Yellow Court.

As the leader of a sect, he naturally had to take the lead.

Feeling the three streams of holy might transmitted from the Primordial heavens and earth, doubt arose in his heart.

"Besides the teacher, the Primordial only has six saints; could it be that the elder brothers, the second brothers, and the two Western saints have started fighting?"

I can't go help my elder brother and second brother.

Thinking this, Tong Tian was about to grab a weapon to go help.

But after sensing those three holy auras, he grew even more doubtful.

Nuwa and Jieyin Zhunti have started fighting?

This is strange. Nuwa never concerns herself with worldly affairs, never contends or strives.

Among the Six Saints, his presence is barely felt.

Tong Tian wondered what unforgivable deed Jieyin Zhunti had done to provoke Nuwa to attack Mount Sumeru.

He quickly turned his gaze toward Mount Sumeru.

Seeing Nuwa beat Jieyin Zhunti black and blue.

Tong Tian stared blankly.

Nuwa, you're this fierce?

He recalled past events.

I've never seen Nuwa make a move, but my elder and younger brothers thought she was weak because she follows the Way of Creation; now I see that's not true.

Seeing Jieyin Zhunti beaten so badly, Tong Tian felt a chill down his spine.

Fortunately I've never offended Nuwa.

……

The Western Lands.

A battle erupted—the first great war among sages since the dawn of time—drawing the attention of countless mighty beings in the Primordial.

Seeing Jieyin Zhunti battered and bruised, Nuwa said, "You brought this on yourselves."

Jieyin Zhunti were dumbfounded; even working together they couldn't defeat Nuwa.

Nuwa, don't get cocky. Zhunti then summoned the Seven Treasure Marvelous Tree.

At that moment, blossoms rained down, purple energy drifted eastward, and an white-haired immortal in humble robes appeared on auspicious clouds, three thousand dao swirling around him as the universe flickered into view.

He shouted.

Stop!

Seeing the newcomer, Jieyin's eyes lit up; he stepped forward and cried: "Master, Nuwa not only killed my Western disciple Maitreya but also destroyed Mount Sumeru—you must decide for us!"

Yes, Master, Nuwa is going too far; please decide and punish her! Zhunti joined Jieyin in crying, tears and snot streaming.

Nuwa coldly snorted: "You still have the nerve to complain? Your Mount Sumeru is fine; hearing you say this, I really want to destroy it and make you rebuild it."

Alright, for my sake, let's just drop this.

Hongjun's face showed neither joy nor sorrow as he looked at Nuwa.

Nuwa said.

If the Master steps in, I will certainly give him face; Jieyin Zhunti, remember this lesson—I, Nuwa, am not to be trifled with.

Nuwa tore through the void, vanishing into Chaos.

As she left.

On Mount Sumeru, plants withered, all things decayed, the land dried up, and jeweled Buddhist pagodas lost their luster and turned to rot.

The land became barren and desolate, devoid of life; the entire Western Lands seemed to have fallen into eternal stillness.

Seeing this, Jieyin Zhunti cried out again.

Master, this is clearly Nuwa's doing; we two elder brothers have governed for myriad ages, and only then did the West begin to flourish—she wants to cut off the West's foundation!

Master, if you don't decide for us, the disciples will dash their heads to death on Mount Sumeru. Zhunti said.

Hongjun frowned slightly, waved his hand, and poured down Heavenly Dao merit; the radiant merit light quickly restored Mount Sumeru to its former state.

Alright, no more disputes.
