Chapter 103: Passing Through Inspiration
Although the timid, homebound witch had already decided to back out, she thought carefully and ultimately couldn’t resist asking one more question.
“Senior, is the senior you mentioned, Fan Ni, strong?”
Dorothy was curious; she thought carefully—studying other dangerous knowledge was one thing, like jurisprudence, necromancy, or human alchemy; those witches indeed grew less human the deeper they delved, and often became dangerous when they lost control.
But a senior specializing in history? That didn’t sound very formidable at all—just an archaeologist. What danger could that possibly hold?
Dai Na: “......”
Seeing the young lady’s curious expression, the intellectual senior immediately knew she hadn’t given up, so she sighed and continued explaining.
“It’s not about whether she’s strong—she’s merely the former president of True Sight. She’s not from our cohort; she should’ve graduated long ago, but her parents, who are history professors at the academy, forcibly kept her on campus due to her unstable condition.”
“I heard that before her illness struck, she was consistently among the top three in the academy, even holding the number one spot for a while. Though not as extreme as you, Senior Fan Ni was a true genius who passed all eight major disciplines by age twenty-five. I’m nowhere near her level. It’s a pity heaven envied her talent—she ended up suffering this fate.”
Dai Na’s voice carried a hint of longing and admiration; it was clear she deeply revered that senior.
Dorothy: “.......”
Sorry to disturb you, I’ll take my leave.
Damn, once she heard this was a Dalao who’d gone insane, she dared not provoke them at all—she immediately planned to grab her book list and go home to study alone.
But beside her, Senior Dai Na suddenly froze, as if remembering something.
“Young lady, wait—I just remembered hearing that Senior Fan Ni’s condition has recently improved; sometimes she briefly regains normalcy. Maybe we can try our luck? It’s not far—she usually stays in the library’s basement.”
She spoke with sudden excitement.
This young lady had barely asked her for help once, and if she didn’t pull it off perfectly, Dai Na felt she’d betray her own identity as Grand Pontiff of the Young Lady Worship Cult—so without delay, she grabbed the young lady’s hand and led the way.
This only made Dorothy more panicked.
No, wait—I’ve thought it over, self-studying history is fine! I just realized history is kind of fun. I really don’t need to ask anyone—just give me the book list, Senior.
But how could a weakling witch like her compete with a senior brimming with magical power? This wasn’t a duel with mana restrictions—her feeble resistance was utterly useless; she was dragged away like a paper doll.
The two arrived directly at the library’s elevator. As soon as they stepped in, Senior Dai Na let go of her—but the doors closed, and Dorothy had nowhere to run.
She could only watch helplessly as the intellectual senior swiped her ID card across the elevator’s control panel; the display, which had only shown upper floors, suddenly revealed multiple basement levels, and the senior pressed the lowest one.
Clank...
With the grinding of metal gears, the magic-powered elevator began moving, and as they descended into weightlessness, Dorothy’s heart rose to her throat.
Oh god, just thinking she might soon meet a mad scientist straight out of a movie or anime made her tremble—what if the Dalao happened to be short on research material right now?
But since Senior Dai Na brought her here, surely the senior would be watching out for trouble—probably nothing bad will happen... right?
She thought to herself.
“Young lady, relax. You don’t need to be so nervous. Senior Fan Ni is a gentle person, just like Mia from the Armed Club—she used to be an older sister in True Sight too.”
“Even now, cursed by knowledge, Senior Fan Ni isn’t as dangerous as other Shikongzhe . I didn’t recommend you come before because when she has an episode, she falls into deep sleep and can’t communicate. But if you’re lucky today and she’s awake, she’ll surely answer your questions.”
Seeing Dorothy’s tension, Senior Dai Na comforted her—but this comparison made the homebound witch even more terrified.
Oh god, gentle like Mia? Is that what you call gentle? You’re fooled by her fake persona, but I know her true nature—she’s an incurable sadistic sadist, a depraved pervert through and through.
Thinking of her half-teacher, the fellow clan senior’s true face, Dorothy suddenly felt a dread.
And soon enough, as the elevator stopped at its destination, Dorothy’s premonition became reality—the moment the doors opened, her inspiration surged.
But this time, her inspiration wasn’t aiding her enlightenment—it was showing her the horrifying scene beyond the door in one glance.
After all, this was the library’s basement; in Dorothy’s original imagination, it should’ve been filled with books. But the moment the doors opened, the shocking, terrifying sight froze her solid.
She saw the floor covered in writhing chunks of flesh forming a fleshy mycelium carpet. She saw plant-like corpse structures, each sprouting dozens of spinning, glistening eyes. She heard the shrill squealing of unknown rodents crawling inside the walls, and smelled the overpowering stench of corpses rotted to their absolute limit...
But none of that was the point. The point was the unfathomable entities at the far end of her vision, within the black mountain range.
Shadows that crawled and writhed in darkness...
Countless shimmering, dreamlike bubbles of iridescent light...
Goat-legged monsters with writhing tentacles and countless mouths...
That was...
Countless unspeakable entities—ugly yet beautiful, beyond human imagination—now patrolled like sentinels, and at their center, a black witch slept peacefully.
But now, due to the intruders’ arrival, the sleeping witch seemed disturbed; she slightly furrowed her brow.
Instantly, the countless unspeakable things opened their countless eyes, fixing them on the intruders who dared disturb their master’s slumber.
Dorothy, nearly scared to death: “......”
So, Senior Dai Na, you call this a gentle older sister?
......The homebound witch has shut down.....
