Chapter 156
A girl sat in a wheelchair, her eyes slightly narrowed, adjusting somewhat to the sunlight outside.
"Look at you, how long has it been since you came out to bask in the sun?" Ye Nan, who was pushing Angela from behind, immediately walked up and used his hand to shield her from the sunlight.
"It seems like a week, or maybe ten days or so. But why are you so nervous? I'm just not used to it yet." Angela pulled Ye Nan's hand away, her face flushing slightly. "If others see this, they'll start staring again."
"What's there to fear? I am your guardian knight; it's only natural for me to shield you from the light," Ye Nan said, appearing completely indifferent.
He wasn't some celebrity whose every word and action was exposed under the spotlight, where even dating would cause a sensation. Although, as the successor to the title of the world's richest man after taking down Bill Gates, his name was more famous than many stars, in reality, no one recognized him when he walked down the street, and the paparazzi wouldn't bother photographing him either.
"Pfft..." Angela let out a soft laugh, the first time she had laughed so happily. Ever since she fell ill, she had been consciously avoiding Ye Nan. This was her first time out shopping with him.
"But I heard you're going to the Middle East. The environment there isn't good, it's all sand. You must be careful." Angela hesitated for a moment, then added, "How about I go to take care of you too?"
"You just said it's all sand there, so how could I let you go?" Ye Nan replied with a smile, looking at Angela with doting eyes. "You are my treasure, my princess. How could I bear to let you suffer? When you recover, we'll go out and play everywhere. How about that?"
"Okay, but I want to go to your hometown to play and see people with the same skin color as you." Angela stretched out her small hand. "Let's pinky swear. If you don't keep your promise, you're a puppy."
"Woof, woof, woof..." Ye Nan suddenly made dog noises, letting his hands hang naturally in front of him, imitating a puppy while sticking out his tongue. "I'm a puppy, I'm a puppy."
"I'll hit you."
In the distance, Mary and Peter were sitting on the street together. When she saw Ye Nan and Angela playing around, she was stunned for a moment.
"Hi, Ye Nan!" Peter, seeing Ye Nan, immediately waved his hand excitedly and walked over. When Mary saw Ye Nan looking over, she walked up reluctantly.
"Hi, Ye Nan, are you out shopping?" Peter greeted him.
"Yes, I'm accompanying my princess, Angela, shopping." Ye Nan looked at Angela with affection.
"Your princess?" Mary, hearing Ye Nan call Angela his princess, couldn't help but ask, "Everyone knows how the story of the prince and princess goes."
"It's not like that." Angela hurriedly explained, "Actually, it happened like this..." Angela then recounted how she and Ye Nan had met.
"Wow! A story of a princess and a knight." Peter exclaimed, then winked at Ye Nan. "So when are you going to invite us to your wedding feast?"
"Princess and knight..." Mary murmured, her face as pale as paper. The story of a princess and a knight was much like the story of a princess and a prince; they were both about living happily ever after.
"Then what am I? Am I the evil witch?" Mary asked herself. She definitely wasn't an evil witch who would go and destroy others' happiness just because she saw them living well. "Then I wish you both well."
Mary pulled herself together and greeted Ye Nan with a smile. "Hi, Ye Nan."
"Oh, it's Mary. How have you been lately?" Ye Nan only then noticed Mary. "I heard you've been wanting to be an actress. I wonder how that's going."
"It's okay. I'm starting with bit parts, and then I'll try to become a stage actor. One step at a time. That's how the entertainment industry is; no one can reach the top in a single leap." Mary said, "By the way, where are you planning to go? If it's on the way, let's go together."...
"Just wandering around. Ever since Angela got sick, she's been staying at the ba... at home. She rarely goes out to play. Bringing her out this time is to let her see the world, get some sun, and change her mood."
Ye Nan had originally wanted to say "base," but once he thought about how he might become an enemy of Spider-Man in the future, he didn't leak his own intelligence.
He and Spider-Man were good friends, at least for now, but his philosophy was different from Spider-Man's. Spider-Man upheld justice and protected the safety of the American public, a superhero described on television and in newspapers. He, however, was different; he was the leader of a consortium, a wicked businessman.
Capital comes into the world dripping from head to foot, from every pore, with blood and dirt. No capitalist is kind, because kind capitalists have already been swallowed up by other capitalists.
Ye Nan never considered himself kind either. In order to develop his ICQ company, he had done quite a few illegal things. One day, when he faced Spider-Man...
Just as police and underworld bosses could never get along, he, the capitalist, and Peter, the superhero, would never walk the same path because their philosophies were different.
"Why not go to the mall together to buy things? We came out intending to shop, so why don't you come too?" Mary walked up to Angela. "This little sister must be sick; she doesn't look too well. Why don't we go shopping for clothes? That's the only way a woman's mood will improve."
"Shall we go?" Ye Nan looked back at Angela, wanting to hear her opinion.
"Let's go. I've heard that a woman's battlefield is the mall, and I want to go to the battlefield for a bit," Angela said, pursing her lips.
Battlefield! Ye Nan froze for a moment. Angela wanted to go to the battlefield; who was she going to fight? Ye Nan realized what was happening and immediately saw Angela and Mary staring at each other, sparks flying in their gazes.
"So it's a battle between two women," Ye Nan realized.
Macy's was a long-established department store in the United States, containing many of the world's famous luxury brands, as well as cheap "Made in China" goods. They claimed to be the largest and most comprehensive, where global products could all be found.
Ye Nan pushed Angela, with Peter and Mary following behind, and the four of them slowly walked into Macy's.
"Sir, what would you like to buy?"
A sales clerk immediately came up to greet them as Ye Nan entered.
"Angela, what do you want?" Ye Nan asked Angela in a low voice.
"Can I go buy clothes?" Angela asked with a slightly pleading look.
No one had ever taken her to buy clothes because it was difficult for her to change, which would attract a lot of attention. Therefore, although her wardrobe was always full, she had never been to a store herself. She really wanted to pick out clothes herself and get a feel for shopping.
"Miss, do you have a Chanel section here?" Ye Nan asked.
Chanel was a very famous French brand. Although its clothes weren't as famous as its perfumes, the prices were truly not cheap. The reason Ye Nan wanted to choose from this brand's section was that those who went to this brand were the type of wealthy people, and there were fewer people there.
Because of her hereditary disease, Angela had lost feeling in both her legs and couldn't walk, so she could only sit in a wheelchair and rely on others' help. Ye Nan didn't want her to endure too many stares from others.
"Yes, sir. Our Macy's has the most complete brand goods in the world. Please rest assured about that." The sales clerk immediately replied, "Please follow me, sir."
Most of those who could go to the Chanel section were wealthy, so she became even more attentive than before.
As a globally renowned brand, Chanel also occupied a very large section in Macy's. From the entire floor level, one could see that there were world-famous luxury brands everywhere, brands for women...
"How can even a disabled person come in? Macy's is getting less and less tasteful."
A voice came over, immediately attracting the attention of Ye Nan and the others. After all, there were many people in Macy's, and there were quite a few disabled people, so it wasn't necessarily directed at them. However, when he saw the middle-aged woman speaking while looking at them, he immediately became angry.
"Old hag, who are you talking about?" Ye Nan said coldly.
"Who are you calling an old hag?" The middle-aged woman's face immediately turned cold. "Kid, shut your mouth, otherwise, I'll let you know what it's like to wish you were dead."
"I'll return those words to you. Old hag, apologize to me, otherwise, no matter what background you have, I will deal with you along with the people behind you."
Coming to the Chanel section of Macy's, how could one come here without money? In the United States, having money meant having a background. Likewise, seeing her arrogant appearance, there must be someone wealthy behind her, perhaps her husband, her son, or her daughter. However, Ye Nan didn't care who was behind her; she had to apologize.
"What did you say? Make me apologize?" The middle-aged woman was trembling with anger. "Someone, come here! Someone, come here! Take this low-class pig with a braid who is slandering me out of here."
"I'm sorry, ma'am, Macy's does not have the right to drive away any customer." The sales clerk, who had been standing in front of Ye Nan, also put away her smile. "If you want to resolve the conflict with this gentleman, I suggest you go outside to resolve it."
Macy's never refused customers because only by not refusing customers could they develop to the point they were at today. If Macy's did what this lady asked today, they would be on the front page of the newspaper tomorrow. The headline would be: "Macy's is arrogant and provokes a war of racial discrimination."
Ye Nan was Chinese, and his identity meant that once a conflict arose, the newspapers would immediately use racial discrimination slogans to grab attention, because racial discrimination was a widespread problem and a concern in the United States.
PS: A friend in the book review section said that I've been writing too plainly and that readers are getting tired, so I'm trying to write a climax. Meow meow, it's exhausting me.
