Chapter 213: Capturing the Pterosaur
Dark clouds gathered in the distance, with thunder rumbling within, ready to strike at any moment. From time to time, a bolt of lightning would descend, striking the earth and igniting flames.
Countless forest inhabitants fled, keeping far away from the natural disaster. The stampede of animals, covering the land, gave the impression of a demon god descending, forcing all living things to retreat.
Whenever the number of any creature increases, it creates a sense of dread. Ants are like this, swallows are like this, and pterosaurs are even more so.
Seen from afar, the incoming pterosaurs were mere specks, but countless specks formed a black sea—a black sea flying through the sky.
The size of a pterosaur was never small; standing three meters tall, they were even larger than a Velociraptor. Of course, their massive bat-like wings accounted for much of that bulk.
"How can there be so many?" Ye Nan, hovering in mid-air, felt a tremor in his heart as he gazed at the boundless swarm of pterosaurs.
He suspected that all the dinosaurs walking on the ground of this nameless island combined did not equal the number of these pterosaurs.
"It's likely because pterosaurs can fly," Stark said, his expression also somewhat tense. "Ground-dwelling dinosaurs are too large and require a great deal of food. This small, cramped island became the greatest obstacle to their reproduction; after all, if there isn't enough food, the hatchlings simply cannot grow."
"But pterosaurs are different. Their range isn't limited to this nameless island. Their strong wings allow them to cross the ocean to find new islands, and the fish beneath the sea have become their food source. Compared to their ground-dwelling kin, these pterosaurs are much more fortunate."
"You mean to say that not only this island, but the surrounding islands as well, have been occupied by pterosaurs?" Ye Nan's expression turned even uglier after hearing Stark's words.
Pterosaurs are dinosaurs, the masters of the ancient Earth's skies. They soared through the heavens, and no species dared to challenge them in the air. Now that they had reappeared on Earth and were breeding, no one knew if this was a disaster or a blessing.
Seeing Ye Nan's expression, Stark naturally knew what he was worried about. He immediately threw Ye Nan down. "Instead of worrying about the future of others, you'd better worry about yourself right now. I'll handle this swarm of damn pterosaurs; you go find Peter and rendezvous with him. I'm a bit worried he won't be able to handle it."
Stark had his Iron Man suit, and his flight speed was definitely not something this swarm of pterosaurs could compare to, so he wasn't worried at all. Ye Nan's body was incredibly sturdy and impervious to blades and bullets; to him, dinosaurs were just toys. Even a massive stampede would only pose a tiny threat. The only one he was worried about was Peter.
Peter was Spider-Man, with physical attributes far exceeding ordinary people, reaching an energy index of three. However, no matter how powerful he was, it didn't change the fact that he was an agility-based superhero. Facing a massive dinosaur stampede, his danger coefficient increased significantly.
Ye Nan was thrown down by Stark, flipped several times in the air, and landed steadily on the ground.
"Stark, you bastard, you..." Ye Nan swallowed the rest of his words because he saw Stark fly into the swarm of pterosaurs, looking quite like a suicide attacker. "That damn Stark, he actually charged in. After you die, I definitely won't help collect your corpse."
Ye Nan grumbled, but his eyes scanned the surroundings. The dinosaur tide hadn't arrived yet; he only saw one pterosaur rolling on the ground, trying to fly but failing.
Ye Nan looked closely and saw a moderate-sized scratch on the pterosaur's wing, with some blood flowing from it.
"So, its wing is injured." Ye Nan suddenly revealed a sinister smile. "Since you're injured, don't blame me."...
Ye Nan walked over step by step. The pterosaur seemed to know its doom was approaching; it looked at Ye Nan uneasily, constantly emitting chirping sounds, just like a swallow.
"You're a dinosaur, how can you act like a little bird like a swallow? Come on, be a good boy, let out a fierce sound for me to hear." Ye Nan was like a creepy uncle enticing a child; in reality, his wicked sense of humor had flared up, and he wanted to toy with the pterosaur.
Roar!
A heaven-shaking roar suddenly erupted in the forest. A massive dinosaur charged from the distance, knocking down countless trees along the way. Of course, what Ye Nan cared about most was a large lump on the dinosaur's back.
That lump was constantly wriggling on the dinosaur's body, just like the scarabs he had encountered at Hamunaptra.
"Parasites combined with a spaceship—it wouldn't really be them, would it?" Ye Nan felt a bit nervous. He grabbed the pterosaur's head, locking eyes with it.
"Submit to me. Submit at my feet and become my pet."
Through his eyes, Ye Nan continuously transmitted his intent to the pterosaur.
Ever since his first injection of God's Blood, Ye Nan had been able to briefly detach his mental intent from his body and enter the network. At the same time, he had gained the "God's Perception," which allowed him to analyze the brain signals of others. After his second injection of God's Blood, he hadn't experienced any abnormalities; if he had to name one, it was that his perception had been strengthened once again.
When a person's heart fluctuated violently, their thoughts would naturally be perceived by him. Just like that researcher from before—because his heart wasn't calm, his thoughts were perceived by Ye Nan.
Of course, this ability wasn't stable and couldn't be used to communicate with others through mental intent like Duan Yan, but transmitting simple thoughts was still achievable.
What he was doing now was subduing the pterosaur while it was afraid of him.
No matter how intelligent dinosaurs were, it didn't change the fact that they were animals. Survival was their only goal, and now, Ye Nan was using force to coerce this pterosaur into submitting at his feet.
The pterosaur, understanding Ye Nan's intent, suddenly became violent. Its two wings snapped shut from the sides, intending to crush Ye Nan flat.
"A beast is a beast. They won't give up until the very moment of death." Ye Nan shook his head, placed his hands on both sides of his head, and gave a sudden jolt, forcing the pterosaur's wings apart.
Although the pterosaur was an animal with no other thoughts, that didn't mean it would easily submit to another species. "The winner takes all" was an immutable law in the animal kingdom. If you want to tame an animal, you must thoroughly defeat it—beat it until it has no temper left.
Ye Nan naturally understood this, but he didn't want to waste effort, which was why he hadn't acted immediately. He hadn't expected this pterosaur to strike first and try to crush him, which was something Ye Nan couldn't tolerate.
"Since you refuse to submit, I'll beat you until you do." Ye Nan stepped forward and grabbed the pterosaur's neck, refusing to let go no matter how much it struggled.
Suffocation is an unbearable pain for any living thing—more painful than any punch or kick, because suffocation tortures not just the body, but the brain as well.
Just like an ordinary man: he might be able to endure someone else's punches and kicks without a sound, but he absolutely could not endure the feeling of suffocation.
Chirp! Chirp!
The pterosaur made dry, flat sounds like a sparrow. Its claws scratched wildly at Ye Nan, and its wings flapped frantically, beating against Ye Nan's body. But no matter how it attacked, Ye Nan remained unmoved, like a stubborn rock—no matter how rapid the river, it couldn't affect him...
Chirp...
The pterosaur looked at Ye Nan and nodded repeatedly, unable to even make a sound. It looked pitiful, and its claws and wings no longer dared to move wildly. Everything returned to calm.
Seeing its state, Ye Nan knew it couldn't hold on any longer and immediately let go. The pterosaur, having escaped Ye Nan's clutches, took a few breaths of fresh air, turned around, and flapped its wings, heading toward the sky. It actually wanted to escape.
"Want to run? Do you think you can?" Ye Nan jumped up and stepped on the pterosaur's back.
The pterosaur, just preparing to fly, felt its back sink, and its entire body was pressed to the ground by a great force, unable to move.
Ye Nan stepped on the pterosaur's back, grabbed its head, and forced it to look at him. "Little guy, you want to run? How does it feel now?"
Although zoologists had long claimed that the intelligence of dinosaurs exceeded that of animals in the animal kingdom, Ye Nan never expected that a beast like a pterosaur would know how to use deception, pretending to surrender while actually planning to escape. If he hadn't been quick, he might have really let the pterosaur get away, and then he would have lost all face.
"Not acting like a good Husky, but wanting to be a wolf." Ye Nan snorted coldly.
Huskies and wolves look extremely similar, but their temperaments are worlds apart. Huskies are timid and gentle, while wolves are fierce and cunning. Ye Nan was using the Husky to compare to the pterosaur, hoping the pterosaur could be as gentle as a Husky.
Chirp, chirp!
The pterosaur let out a difficult cry, its voice very gentle, as if it had truly transformed from a wolf into a Husky.
"I'll give you one chance. If you try to escape again, you'll end up like this." Ye Nan punched the ground in front of the pterosaur, creating a large hole, and covered the hole with his elbow.
Don't look at the ground as if it isn't hard; an ordinary person could make a shallow mark, but if you want to go further, the required force increases geometrically. To create a hole of Ye Nan's caliber was not something an ordinary person could do. Even a superhero like Peter, with an energy index of three, couldn't do it unless that hero's energy index was entirely expressed in terms of strength, like Ed.
The pterosaur, having escaped a disaster under Ye Nan's feet, didn't continue to flee but instead stuck out its tongue and licked Ye Nan's face, showing its closeness to him.
Perhaps it was frightened by Ye Nan's threat, or perhaps it was deterred by Ye Nan's power; in any case, this pterosaur behaved very gently.
It appeared very docile.
"Consider yourself sensible. Otherwise, my patience would have been worn away by you." Ye Nan said softly, taking a small, circular metal object from his watch and putting it around the pterosaur's neck. "Go and recuperate on your own for now. I'll come find you later. Don't even think about escaping; I will find you."
This circular metal object was something used in the laboratory to control various experimental specimens and prevent them from going berserk. It could automatically release a powerful anesthetic gas to knock out the specimen. The only reason he brought it out was that he wanted to capture a few dinosaurs to take back as guard dogs.
