Chapter 50: Chapter Fifty-One: Endurance

Xiao Godzilla’s room was at the lowest level of the entire underground research facility, surrounded by multiple layers of defense, countless cameras and laser emitters, all controlled by the central mainframe computer—second only to the central control room. Of course, the central mainframe had now been taken over by Flame Empress, meaning Ye Nan had full control of the underground facility.
Looking at Xiao Godzilla, Ye Nan felt a wave of unbearable sorrow—he couldn’t even bear to watch.
There lay a small lizard, about one meter tall and three meters long, its two pairs of fleshy wings naturally pressed against its body, shielding its flesh.
Dozens of tubes, roughly ten in number, were inserted into its body, continuously pumping in fluids and draining its blood—this was the fate of an experimental subject.
Behind the glass door, Xiao Godzilla seemed to sense Ye Nan’s arrival—he immediately lifted his head, his enormous eyes filled with tears, nearly overflowing. If he were human, he would have leapt out and thrown himself into Ye Nan’s arms, weeping bitterly as he poured out his suffering.
This was no work for a human being. Every day, at least three kilograms of blood were drawn from him, and roughly ten kilograms of unknown fluids injected into his body. His flesh constantly mutated, constantly changing.
“You two truly have a psychic connection,” Dr. Ma Xiu muttered bitterly. He had been the first person Xiao Godzilla ever saw—why hadn’t he formed such a bond?
He might as well have asked himself: he treated Xiao Godzilla like a lab rat every single day. That Xiao Godzilla hadn’t opened his mouth and devoured him was already a miracle. To expect a psychic connection? Better to turn back time and treat Xiao Godzilla better.
Ye Nan smiled faintly—he understood perfectly why Ma Xiu felt this way. Psychic connections were supernatural phenomena, beyond the reach of science.
Take this place: the entire underground facility was lined with soundproof panels. No matter what happened inside, not a single sound escaped. Outsiders would never know a thing. Yet Xiao Godzilla sensed Ye Nan’s arrival the moment he arrived—this was an undeniable supernatural phenomenon, utterly inexplicable by science.
Xiao Godzilla gazed at Ye Nan with pitiful eyes, pleading silently—he longed to escape Dr. Ma Xiu’s grasp and return to Ye Nan’s side.
This was also a sign of Xiao Godzilla’s human-like nature. From the moment he was born, he had seen only Ma Xiu and Ye Nan—he had already come to regard them as his family. That was why he was so obedient, allowing Ma Xiu to drain his blood and inject him with unknown fluids without resistance.
Seeing Xiao Godzilla’s pleading gaze, Ye Nan felt a sharp pang in his chest. Though Dr. Ma Xiu claimed everything was for Xiao Godzilla’s future, looking at him now, Ye Nan suddenly felt he had failed as a father.
“Dr. Ma Xiu, how much longer until Xiao Godzilla can leave the lab?” Ye Nan asked, his voice tinged with hidden pain. His tone had grown harsh.
“Hmm…” Dr. Ma Xiu paused, then smiled faintly. “Children are always so sentimental.”
“It’s not sentimentality—I just don’t want my partner turned into your lab specimen. Tell me: how long? Give me a definite time. Otherwise, I’ll take him by force.” Ye Nan’s voice turned icy. The more Xiao Godzilla looked at him, the more guilt welled up inside him—emotions he had never felt before surged forth, churning his mind into chaos.
“I can’t control the timeline. It depends on when he fully integrates the dinosaur DNA injected into him. Also, he needs vast quantities of blood food—but unfortunately, such places no longer exist.” Dr. Ma Xiu sighed regretfully.
Dinosaurs—ferocious creatures rich in flesh and blood—existed on Earth only in Jurassic Park. Ye Nan was already a shareholder in Jurassic Park; he couldn’t use his own wealth to feed Xiao Godzilla. More importantly, Dr. Hammond had already discovered Xiao Godzilla. If Xiao Godzilla began freely hunting Hammond’s cash cows, an accident was inevitable.
“I know a place. Hand Xiao Godzilla over to me.” Ye Nan thought for a moment. “We need a small boat anyway. Let Xiao Godzilla stay beneath it. When we reach the Amazon River basin, I’ll let him hunt freely. The region is virtually uninhabited—no one will find out.”
“And if someone sees him? The Amazon River basin is called the heart of the Earth—many people go there to explore,” Dr. Ma Xiu said gravely, his tone ambiguous—part opposition, part warning.
“If they see him,” Ye Nan’s eyes flashed coldly, “don’t blame me for being ruthless. A true man doesn’t hesitate. Our secret must never be revealed.”
Xiao Godzilla’s existence was a secret between Ye Nan and the Federal Government. In a sense, they had reached a tacit agreement. If the world learned of Xiao Godzilla, it wouldn’t just be foreign agents who came after him—the Federal Government itself would move immediately to eliminate him.
He wasn’t part of the William family’s old-money elite, pulling strings behind the scenes. He had little connection with the government. When the Federal Government decided to move against him, he wouldn’t have a single ally to plead his case or warn him. With only his tiny ICQ company, he couldn’t possibly stand against the Federal Government.
This was because his rise had been too swift. Had he risen a little slower, cultivated a few loyal congressmen, the government would have found it far harder to act against him. Internal dissent would have emerged—he could have used his own allies to pressure the government, forcing it to open markets for his company.
“Since you’ve made your decision, I’m relieved. Give me a moment—I’ll inject the remaining fluids into Xiao Godzilla.”
“Hmm.” Ye Nan gave a barely perceptible nod, then turned to Xiao Godzilla. “Flame Empress, activate the speaker. I need to speak to Xiao Godzilla.”
“Yes, Master.” A girl-like figure appeared before Ye Nan, her body translucent. Ye Nan knew this was one of the facility’s omnipresent projectors—originally meant for scientists to communicate, now repurposed by Flame Empress.
“Xiao Godzilla, endure a little longer. Soon, you’ll be free. Then I’ll take you to the Amazon River basin—there, in that primordial jungle, unleash your power. Let every prey tremble in your jaws.”
Hearing Ye Nan’s voice, Xiao Godzilla perked up instantly, desperate to leave this place and rush into the primordial jungle Ye Nan described, free to hunt and kill without restraint.
