Chapter 616: The Mechanical Dog King

~5 min read 980 words

Dust flew as a group of mechanical dogs arrived with erratic steps, stopping before Ye Nan.

Two Terminators: one prepared for battle, standing in front of Ye Nan, his left arm transformed into a hollow cannon barrel, right hand open and ready to strike; the other Terminator moved with extreme speed to hide behind Ye Nan, avoiding direct contact with the horde of mechanical dogs.

“Wu wu!” As the mechanical dogs approached, the mechanical dog beside Ye Nan immediately trembled, curling up at his feet.

Wo! Wo! Wo!

Several loud barks rang out as a mechanical dog wearing a crown stepped forward from the pack.

This mechanical dog was smaller than the others, giving it a delicate, dainty appearance among the crowd.

It looked around proudly, glanced briefly at the other mechanical dogs with disdain, then swept its gaze over Ye Nan and the two Terminators, finally lifting its head and barked twice—regal and commanding.

“Is this thing really the so-called king?” Ye Nan felt uneasy. He was an emperor, wielding life and death over tens of billions; his power dominated the world—how could a petty king from some backwater hole dare to look down on him?

Still, despite his irritation, he wouldn’t act until he understood the intent of these mechanical dogs.

Wo! Wo! Wo!

The mechanical dog king barked sharply at the pack, and the one at Ye Nan’s feet responded with a few whimpers, then slumped and said to Ye Nan: “I really shouldn’t have spoken.”

“Forget it. Since it’s already known, I’ll say it.” The mechanical dog muttered, then added: “The king asks why you came here.”

“You didn’t speak earlier because you were too lazy to translate?” Ye Nan realized why the mechanical dog had been silent—it was just slacking off.

“No,” the mechanical dog shook its head. “I didn’t want the king to know I can speak your language. He hates outsiders, and he hates those who learn foreign tongues. He always says he is supreme, and his subjects are nobler than others—so it should be other mechanical hands that adopt our language, not learn from other mechanical beasts.”

“What an arrogant fool,” Ye Nan sneered. “A tiny dog king demanding others learn his language—utterly clueless about his place.”

“Yeah, I guess so,” the mechanical dog hung its head. “But shouldn’t I relay what my king said?”

“Speak,” Ye Nan said coldly.

“My king asks why you came here,” the mechanical dog muttered, listless.

“Didn’t you bring me here?” Ye Nan replied.

“Wu wu!” The mechanical dog’s head sank even lower, its whole body drooping like a dog about to be slaughtered, utterly lifeless.

Wo! Wo! Wo!

Wo! Wo! Wo!

The two mechanical dogs barked back and forth; after a moment, the mechanical dog let out a whimper and cowered beneath Ye Nan’s feet. “The king says you must submit to him—for intruding here.”

“So your king really thinks he’s invincible,” Ye Nan laughed. He’d originally planned to flatter them a little to extract information—but now he saw no need to play the fool. To deal with an arrogant fool like the mechanical dog king, he had to break him first before any real talk could happen.

“Terminator, yours,” Ye Nan stepped back, giving the Terminator room.

The Terminator advanced, his left-arm particle cannon charging energy, his own power output fully engaged, drawing constant energy.

Seeing the enemy prepare to strike, the mechanical dog king panicked, barking wildly and retreating rapidly, forcing the other mechanical dogs to form a front line.

“The king asks what you’re doing,” the mechanical dog, unnerved by the tension, asked nervously.

“What am I doing?” Ye Nan sneered. “Terminator, show them your maximum power.” He yawned lazily, as if about to fall asleep.

He wasn’t actually sleepy—he was just putting on an expression of impatience.

Wo! Wo! Wo!

The mechanical dog obediently translated Ye Nan’s command to its king, as if warning it to prepare.

“The mechanical dog is a good dog,” Ye Nan said again.

Hearing this, the mechanical dog froze, too terrified to speak further, burying its head under its body as if unwilling to witness the coming carnage.

“Fire.”

Boom!

At Ye Nan’s order, the charged particle cannon fired—a streak of light flashed, and a powerful particle stream instantly pierced through the mechanical dogs, striking the mechanical dog king directly.

Wo! Wo! Wo!

The barks now held no pride—only whimpering fear.

“Didn’t kill it,” Ye Nan observed the mechanical dog king lying on the ground, seemingly drained, a faint smile on his face.

“I think the Terminator should fire another shot at that mechanical dog king.”

No sooner had Ye Nan spoken than the seemingly lifeless mechanical dog king rose to its feet, head bowed, emitting low whimpers—no trace of its former arrogance remained.

“The king says you are strong,” the mechanical dog pulled its head from under its body and faithfully translated its master’s words.

“So you surrender already?” Ye Nan said with a half-smile, though a flicker of shock stirred within him.

He knew the particle cannon’s power—it might not defeat a Superman like Clark, but against ordinary mechanical lifeforms like these dogs, it was effortless.

Yet this mechanical dog king had taken a direct hit—and suffered no damage. Even accounting for the other dogs absorbing some of the blast, the king’s own physical resilience was formidable.

“I underestimated the mechanical dog king’s durability. As a mechanical lifeform forged from the Spark, their defense depends on the metal used to construct their bodies. This king’s metal must be exceptionally hard—otherwise, it couldn’t have withstood the particle cannon.”

Wo! Wo! Wo!

The mechanical dog king barked at Ye Nan several times; the mechanical dog translated: “The king declares he will submit to you. He asks you to lead the mechanical dog clan to destroy other mechanical beasts and conquer the entire world.” (To be continued.)
