Chapter 84: A New Life

~5 min read 938 words

After the birthday party ended, Ye Nan hid alone in his room and told Angela about amusing stories.

Ye Nan’s current life was very peaceful; the growth of ICQ Company had brought this family endless wealth, and Ye Nan had gradually grown accustomed to this lifestyle.

But when Peter and Mary—the male and female leads of Spider-Man—appeared today, Ye Nan immediately realized that the Spider-Man plot had begun.

In fact, this world had long been in chaos; all sorts of figures had emerged, disrupting the global order and plunging the world into turbulent turmoil.

The Skynet and bio-viruses hung like the Sword of Damocles over Ye Nan’s head, leaving him restless and sleepless.

The only thing that brought Ye Nan comfort was that his power had been strengthened again; since devouring the dragon, his body had undergone another enhancement—not only had his physical attributes surged, but he had also gained dual transformation.

Scales covered Ye Nan’s entire body, reflecting an odd luster under sunlight; under this armor, he was immune to any blade, though the scales offered weaker defense against blunt force than he’d expected, which left him deeply disappointed.

“Brother, you don’t need to worry—when the Blood Orchid blooms again, you can use its secretions to evolve your body once more and become even stronger.” Simala reached out and massaged Ye Nan’s body; though she could not physically touch him, she loved expressing her inner feelings this way.

“Say it.” Ye Nan suddenly turned around, trying to grab Simala—his hand passed right through her. “Am I even still human?”

“Of course you’re you, brother. How could you not be human?”

“But am I still human, looking like this?”

His whole body was covered in scales, his palms fully transformed into claws—he was less a human and more a monster. The only thing still human about him was his eyes: black, unchanged.

“That’s because you’ve evolved—you’re no longer an ordinary human,” Simala wrinkled her cute little nose. “How could you think such a thing?”

“I just saw Peter. You know, Peter isn’t human—he was bitten by a spider, his genetic code mutated; his hands naturally became sticky and can shoot out hardened spider silk.” Ye Nan stood up, watching Peter laugh and chat outside the door, his gaze complex.

Humans, a very strange species—they bind heroes with honor and morality, turning them into their enforcers and shields. If you refuse to be bound, you become humanity’s enemy and must be destroyed.

“A mutant?” Simala hung from Ye Nan. “Just send him to Dr. Ma Xiu for study. Then you can benefit from his findings—you always say the poor rely on mutation, the rich on technology. Studying the poor benefits the rich.”

“I was just joking—did you actually believe that?” Ye Nan said in surprise, as if witnessing something unbelievable.

“I don’t just listen and forget—you’re a man. A man needs strong power, or else your woman will be taken, and then you’ll regret it.” Simala playfully lifted her nose.

“Who could take my woman? I’m the CEO of ICQ Company.” Ye Nan laughed heartily.

“Why not? There’s always a higher mountain—some freak might pop up from a corner and wipe out the world in a flash.” Instantly, images of global destruction appeared around Simala—the effect of holographic projection.

“Where did you get such twisted logic?”

“In every movie, the protagonist gains power, then a stronger supporting character appears, and the protagonist defeats him with love and justice.” Simala gestured, and behind her, one movie after another materialized.

“You said it yourself—the protagonist defeats the villain with love and justice.” Ye Nan crossed his arms, assuming a thoughtful pose. “I’m the protagonist.”

“What if you’re not the protagonist?” Simala’s expression turned worried.

“If I’m not the protagonist, I’ll kill the protagonist—I guarantee you won’t get hurt.” Ye Nan patted his chest, making a man’s vow.

“But what if you get killed?” Simala asked again.

“Then I’ll…” Ye Nan fell silent, immediately hugging Simala. “Why do you ask so many questions?”

“I want you to tell me what you’d do.” Simala tilted her head up, pouting, demanding he answer.

“But I can’t say it.” Ye Nan looked troubled. “Let’s go out and have some fun.”

“You know I can’t go out—there’s no holographic projection outside. You’re just trying to annoy me, aren’t you?” Simala pouted and turned her head away from Ye Nan.

“I just said something wrong—do you have to treat me like this?” Ye Nan sighed helplessly. Seeing she still ignored him, he realized Simala was throwing a child’s tantrum.

Ye Nan knew that with women—especially young ones—reasoning was useless; no matter how logical your argument, it would always come across as bullying.

“Fine, fine, I admit I’m wrong, okay?” Ye Nan surrendered.

“Then tell me where you went wrong.”

Simala kept her body turned away but wore a triumphant expression—whenever she used this secret weapon, Ye Nan always caved.

“I was wrong not to argue with you.” Ye Nan sighed. He’d said this so many times—hundreds, maybe.

“No sincerity at all.”

Again this phrase. Ye Nan stared helplessly as Simala turned to face him—he’d heard this line eight hundred times and was sick of it.

“Then tell me now—if I were taken and you were killed, what would you do?” Simala clung to this topic.

Without hesitation, Ye Nan blurted out the words Simala loved: “I’d be resurrected by the call of love and justice, kill the villains, rescue you, and then the prince and princess live happily ever after. How’s that?”

“That’s better.” Simala nodded in satisfaction.

“Another little girl poisoned by movies and fairy tales.”
