Chapter 284: Stirring Up a Hornet's Nest
"Are you alright now, Jiajia?" Hu Lili asked.
"Mm, I'm already fine," Cheng Jiajia said.
"It's really great that Mr. Lin is here. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't have been able to treat your foot, and we would have had to pack up and head home," Hu Lili said.
Although Cheng Jiajia didn't say much, she couldn't help but nod in agreement.
Because there were no hospitals in the mountains, her foot was injured and she couldn't walk; if it dragged on, it might have become more serious. In such a situation, they would have had to end this wilderness expedition early and return to school halfway through.
"It's getting late. You two go back to the tent to rest. I'll call you when it's light out," Lin Feng said.
"Let's talk a little longer..."
Before Hu Lili could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by Lin Feng: "I have no interest in talking to you, and I am tired too; I need to rest."
"Then I'll keep watch for you. Mr. Lin, you go rest in our tent," Hu Lili said with a smile.
Cheng Jiajia immediately became extremely nervous.
Because if Lin Feng nodded in agreement, she would have to be alone in a room with Lin Feng and share a tent.
In such a cramped space, resting together with a man she had only just met—just thinking about it was... very embarrassing!
It wasn't that Cheng Jiajia disliked Lin Feng; she was just too shy.
But how could Lin Feng possibly agree?
"I said I don't need a tent. How many times do you want me to say it?" Lin Feng said, glaring.
"Why be so fierce? I only had good intentions..."
Hu Lili muttered, and reluctantly entered the tent with Cheng Jiajia.
However, even after entering the tent, Hu Lili and Cheng Jiajia still couldn't fall asleep.
Cheng Jiajia whispered, "Lili, do you like Mr. Lin?"
Hu Lili hesitated for a moment, then said with a resentful expression, "It would be a miracle if I didn't. Mr. Lin is such an outstanding and exceptional man; if one could marry him, it would truly be like the ancestral graves emitting blue smoke..."
After a pause, Hu Lili suddenly realized something and asked in a low voice, "Why are you asking me that? You don't like Mr. Lin too, do you?"
"I certainly do not..."
Cheng Jiajia said embarrassedly, and even turned over to face away from Hu Lili.
She did this because she didn't want Cheng Jiajia to see her blushing and shy appearance.
But she could fool others, yet she couldn't fool herself.
The scene of having just been saved from danger by Lin Feng was something she could recall the moment she closed her eyes; she felt she would never forget it in her entire life.
"Jiajia, it's not that I'm trying to bring you down, but you can think about it in your heart, just don't say it out loud. A person like Mr. Lin is not someone we can climb up to. Even I don't have the qualifications to be friends with him, let alone you," Hu Lili sighed.
"What kind of person is he exactly..."
"I can't tell you. I don't dare to say."
Hu Lili and Cheng Jiajia went back and forth, and as they spoke, they finally drifted off to sleep.
The sun peeked over the horizon.
Lin Feng walked up to the tent and said, "Hu Lili, Cheng Jiajia, time to get up."
After quite a while, the two girls finally crawled out of the tent one after the other.
Seeing their sleepy expressions, Lin Feng said displeasedly, "I told you so many times last night to rest early, but you just wouldn't listen. Do you know how uncomfortable you feel now?"
"Can you blame us for that? Such a big thing happened last night; who could sleep?" Hu Lili said gloomily.
Cheng Jiajia also wanted to say something, but after looking at Lin Feng and remembering what Hu Lili had said last night, she ultimately kept her mouth shut.
The zipper of the tent next door also slid open with a *shhh* sound, and Lv Peng and Yang Fan walked out together.
"Breakfast isn't ready yet?" Lv Peng asked.
Hu Lili pointed at the campfire, rolled her eyes, and said, "The fire is out, how am I supposed to prepare breakfast?"
"Then we'll go into the woods to gather firewood... Lin Feng, you come too," Lv Peng said, and glanced at Lin Feng.
Hu Lili said displeasedly, "Can't you just go gather it yourselves? Why call Mr. Lin?"
"The two of us are busy working, and he's just standing here doing nothing. Is that appropriate?" Lv Peng retorted.
"Mr. Lin killed so many wild wolves last night and saved us, and he even kept watch outside all night..."
Before Hu Lili could finish her sentence, Lv Peng said impatiently, "Don't bring up the past."
Hu Lili was furious, but Lin Feng walked over and said, "You two don't worry about it. I'll go into the woods with them to gather firewood."
"Is that really okay?" Hu Lili said hesitantly.
"There's nothing wrong with it."
After Lin Feng finished speaking, he walked toward the depths of the mountain forest with Lv Peng and Yang Fan.
Dry branches could be seen everywhere in the forest; these branches were excellent kindling, and Lin Feng quickly gathered a large armful.
Suddenly, Lv Peng and Yang Fan walked over together.
"Can you quit?" Lv Peng said, getting straight to the point.
"Are you telling me to get lost?" Lin Feng asked with a smile.
"That's right, I am telling you to get lost. We weren't familiar with you to begin with, and you joining our little team makes things very difficult for us," Lv Peng said bluntly.
Yang Fan also chimed in, "Can you be a bit more observant? We are on a wilderness expedition; what does it have to do with you? You're thick-skinned enough to follow us around—what are your intentions?"
Lin Feng said indifferently, "If I remember correctly, it seems it wasn't me who asked to join you, but rather Hu Lili who invited me."
"Enough with the nonsense. Are you going to get lost or not?" Lv Peng said coldly.
"And if I say no?" Lin Feng retorted.
Lv Peng clenched his fists, seemingly wanting to make a move, and Yang Fan on the side also looked furious.
But they ultimately lacked the guts to use force.
After all, Lin Feng had beaten so many wild wolves to death with his bare hands last night, already demonstrating powerful strength. They weren't blind or stupid, so how could they dare to make a move against Lin Feng?
"Fine, you asked for this; if anything happens, don't blame us!" Lv Peng said viciously.
As soon as the words fell, Lv Peng and Yang Fan strode away.
Lin Feng ignored them and continued picking up dry firewood from the ground.
Suddenly, a stone was thrown from a distance and struck the tree canopy.
The next moment, a hornet's nest a full basketball in size fell from the tree, landing with a bang at Lin Feng's feet.
Almost at the same time, a large swarm of hornets buzzed out from the nest, like a black cloud.
Hiding in the distance, Lv Peng and Yang Fan saw this scene and immediately sneered repeatedly.
"He's finished."
"This time, even if he doesn't die, he'll lose a layer of skin!"
However, as Lv Peng and Yang Fan watched, they revealed expressions of disbelief, because that swarm of hornets was actually unable to get close to Lin Feng's body!
This scene was as if there were an invisible wall around Lin Feng's body, firmly blocking all the hornets outside!
