Chapter 388: Xiaoxue

Lin Jingying stroked Tong Xiaoxue's head with a smile and asked, "Where did you and Uncle go to play?"

Xiaoxue said very happily, "I went shopping with Uncle. Uncle bought me lots of delicious things, and I'm already full!"

Lin Jingying then glared at Lin Feng and said crossly, "I was just planning to cook. You've fed Xiaoxue full, so what about dinner?"

"Prepare a little less," Lin Feng said with a wry smile.

Lin Jingying said helplessly, "That's all we can do."

Two days of peaceful life passed, and the Police Department finally called.

As soon as Lin Feng answered the phone, the Chief of the Police Department, Wang Tianle, said, "Mr. Lin, the genetic comparison results are out. Xiaoxue's biological father has been found!"

"Good, I'll come over now, and we can talk in person," Lin Feng said.

Just as Lin Feng hung up the phone, Lin Jingying walked over and asked, "Are there results from the genetic comparison?"

"Mm."

Lin Feng nodded and said with a smile, "I'm going to the Police Department now. You don't need to go; just stay home and take care of Xiaoxue. I'll tell you the results when I get back, so don't worry."

Lin Jingying sighed softly, the expression on her face slightly disappointed.

Upon learning that the genetic comparison had results, Lin Jingying couldn't be happy at all, because once Xiaoxue's biological father was found, it meant Xiaoxue would have to be sent back to her biological father's side.

In this way, she would inevitably have to part with Xiaoxue.

After spending this time together, Lin Jingying had already grown fond of Xiaoxue, fond of this cheerful, lively, bright, and playful little girl.

Lin Jingying even truly felt like a mother.

Now that she had to part with Xiaoxue, she was naturally very reluctant in her heart.

Lin Feng seemed to see what Lin Jingying was thinking, so he patted Lin Jingying's shoulder to comfort her: "Senior Sister, no matter what, we cannot forcibly keep Xiaoxue here, so you should try to look at it differently. To love someone is to learn to let go, not to forcibly hold on."

"Stop pretending to be some life coach and hurry to the Police Department," Lin Jingying said crossly.

"Got it, got it, I'm going now."

Lin Feng said with a chuckle, and as soon as he finished speaking, he strode outside.

A taxi happened to pass by outside, so Lin Feng hailed the taxi and set off in the direction of the Police Department.

It took less than fifteen minutes for Lin Feng to stand before the main gate of the Police Department, and the Chief of the Police Department, Wang Tianle, was already waiting respectfully at the entrance. As soon as he saw Lin Feng, he immediately stood at attention and saluted, his tone of voice also extremely polite.

"Mr. Lin, you've finally arrived. Please, come in, come in," Wang Tianle said very enthusiastically.

Lin Feng followed Wang Tianle into the office, sat down on the black sofa, and asked straight to the point: "Tell me, who is Xiaoxue's biological father?"

Wang Tianle replied: "Based on our genetic comparison over these many days, we can finally confirm that Xiaoxue's biological father is the Head of the Family of one of the three great wealthy families in Minle City—the Wu Family, Wu Lianyun."

Xiaoxue is actually the daughter of a wealthy family?

If that is the case, why did Xiaoxue have such a miserable experience?

Just as Lin Feng thought of this, Wang Tianle continued: "Xiaoxue's biological mother was a woman named Tong Yanhong. According to our investigation, this woman named Tong Yanhong was originally a maid for the Wu Family. She worked for the Wu Family for many years, then inexplicably had a child, and later, for some unknown reason, left her job at the Wu Family and turned to working as a hostess."

"After that, Tong Yanhong died, and Xiaoxue went missing. Tong Yanhong's death and Tong Xiaoxue's disappearance seem to have happened on the same day."

"But what is certain is that although Tong Xiaoxue was abducted to our Binhai City, there is no necessary connection between Tong Yanhong's death and Xiaoxue's abduction."

Hearing Wang Tianle's words, Lin Feng had some guesses in his heart.

But Lin Feng did not voice the guesses in his heart; after all, without the support of evidence, some things cannot be said casually.

"Mr. Lin, I have said everything that needs to be said, so as for Xiaoxue..."

Wang Tianle said hesitantly, and he stopped after saying only half of his sentence.

Lin Feng naturally knew what he meant.

Since Xiaoxue's biological father had been found, it was not in accordance with procedure for Lin Feng and Lin Jingying to continue adopting Xiaoxue.

According to the correct procedure, Xiaoxue should be sent back to her biological father's side to let the father and daughter reunite.

If Lin Feng and Lin Jingying wanted to continue adopting Xiaoxue, they would need to obtain the consent of Xiaoxue's biological father—that is, the Head of the Wu Family in Minle City, Wu Lianyun.

"Have you contacted the Head of the Wu Family?" Lin Feng asked.

"I have already contacted him. Wu Lianyun's attitude is very clear; he wants us to send Xiaoxue back to Minle City immediately," Wang Tianle said awkwardly.

Perhaps fearing that Lin Feng would be angry, Wang Tianle added: "Mr. Lin, please don't misunderstand. Contacting Xiaoxue's biological father is a necessary procedure, and I have no choice."

"Rest assured, I don't blame you. I am not the kind of person who is unreasonable," Lin Feng said, waving his hand.

"Then now..." Wang Tianle smiled bitterly.

Lin Feng said: "I will go home now, discuss it properly with my Senior Sister, and also seek Xiaoxue's opinion. By the way, give me Wu Lianyun's phone number; I will speak with him personally."

Wang Tianle naturally would not refuse, so Lin Feng obtained Wu Lianyun's contact information on the spot.

After leaving the Police Department, Lin Feng returned to Lin Jingying's villa at the fastest speed and informed Lin Jingying of all the results of the genetic comparison.

And after Lin Jingying finished listening, her brows furrowed tightly.

Lin Feng said slowly: "The matter has been largely figured out. Xiaoxue's biological mother, Tong Yanhong, was once a maid for the Wu Family. She must have had a physical relationship with the Head of the Wu Family, Wu Lianyun, due to some coincidence or accident, and gave birth to Xiaoxue, so Xiaoxue is a standard illegitimate daughter."

"The Head of the Wu Family likely did not intend to take responsibility. Not only did he not marry Tong Yanhong, but he instead swept her and Xiaoxue out the door. With no other options, Tong Yanhong had no choice but to work as a hostess to earn quick money to support herself and Xiaoxue."

"Finally, there is Tong Yanhong's accidental death and Xiaoxue's abduction. According to Wang Tianle, these two events happened on the same day, which is a bit strange."

Lin Jingying immediately picked up the thread: "Is there such a possibility that Wu Lianyun wanted to clean up the stain on himself and solve the trouble once and for all, so he sent a killer to assassinate Tong Yanhong and Xiaoxue? Tong Yanhong actually didn't die by accident; she died at the hands of Wu Lianyun?"

"Then why would Wu Lianyun let Xiaoxue go?" Lin Feng asked in return.
