Chapter 413: Opening One's Mouth Means a Sky-High Price
Lin Feng finished speaking and turned to enter the house with the small box.
Lu Bailing grew anxious, chased after him, and said, "Mr. Lin, don't be in such a rush. Let's talk some more, perhaps..."
However, before Lu Bailing could finish her sentence, Xiaoxue had already shut the door firmly.
Returning to the living room, Lin Feng tossed the small box into the trash can, while he stored the tea set inside it into his Storage Ring.
Xiaoxue smiled and said, "Daddy, shall we go shopping?"
"Are you feeling greedy again?" Lin Feng asked.
"A little bit, hehe..." Xiaoxue said with a shy, bashful smile.
Lin Feng patted Xiaoxue's head and said, "Wait a moment. Perhaps that big sister is still guarding outside; we'll go out in a while."
"Mm!" Xiaoxue nodded vigorously.
After waiting for over ten minutes, Lin Feng stood up and glanced through the window. Confirming that Lu Bailing had left, he finally brought Xiaoxue out of Hua Yuerong's villa.
Just then, a taxi passed by the entrance of the villa complex, so Lin Feng waved his hand to flag it down.
Once in the car, Lin Feng said to the taxi driver, "Go to the city center."
"Alright, a flat rate or by the meter?" the taxi driver asked.
"By the meter," Lin Feng said indifferently.
Although a flat rate might be a bit cheaper, it would require haggling.
Lin Feng had no interest in wasting his breath, and besides, he was not short on money; there was no need for a flat rate, and using the meter was simpler.
This taxi driver was very fond of chatting. He kept talking to Lin Feng throughout the journey, and since Lin Feng was in a fairly good mood, he occasionally responded with a word or two.
"Young man, you're not a local of our Minle City, are you?" the taxi driver asked with a chuckle.
"How could you tell?" Lin Feng asked.
"Your features don't look like they're from around here, and your Mandarin is so standard—there's not a hint of our local accent. Plus, people here are real stingy, but you were so straightforward, so you definitely aren't a local," the taxi driver said.
"Are the people here all very stingy?" Lin Feng laughed.
"Of course. They haggle for a long time just to take a ride. I spend a good third of my day driving a taxi just bickering with passengers," the taxi driver said.
Lin Feng wore a smile, while Xiaoxue was giggling non-stop from being amused.
"Young man, I didn't see that coming; you're so young and already have a daughter. How long have you been married?" the taxi driver asked again.
"I'm not married yet," Lin Feng said.
"Not married yet but you have a child, and she's already this big? Impressive, impressive!" the taxi driver said, giving a thumbs up.
Lin Feng said irritably, "She isn't my biological daughter; she's my adopted daughter."
"Adopted? I remember the rules in our country are very strict. There are all sorts of troublesome regulations for adopting children, especially adopting a little girl," the taxi driver said skeptically.
"I naturally have some special methods; you don't need to worry about that," Lin Feng said, emphasizing his tone.
The taxi driver finally shut his mouth and quieted down.
Before they knew it, they had arrived at the city center.
Lin Feng paid the fare and carried Xiaoxue out of the car. As soon as they stepped out, Xiaoxue pointed at a mobile stall in the distance and shouted, "I want to eat that! I want to eat that!"
"Do you even know what that is?" Lin Feng laughed.
"I'll know what it is once we go over and look. Look, there are so many people surrounding it, and most of them are children like me. The things that old man is selling must be delicious!" Xiaoxue called out.
Lin Feng had no choice but to carry Xiaoxue and walk toward the mobile stall with long strides.
Upon reaching it, Lin Feng finally realized what this mobile stall was selling, and at the same time, understood why so many parents were bringing their children to watch.
Because this was a stall selling sugar figures, and the sugar figures on the stall were all hand-molded by the old man running it!
He saw the white-haired old man, who was over sixty, very skillfully rolling brownish-yellow sugar syrup onto a small wooden stick resembling a disposable chopstick, then using his disposable-gloved hands to begin molding and kneading it.
From time to time, he would use tools like spoons and scissors, fluidly and dazzlingly crafting a round, cute little rabbit.
The surrounding children were all stunned, one after another opening their mouths wide and exclaiming.
"Wow, what a beautiful little rabbit!"
"Can you eat this?"
"Duh, of course you can eat it, it's made of sugar!"
"Look, he's even wearing disposable gloves; it's already very clean and hygienic!"
"Such great craftsmanship, must be ancestral, right?"
"Impressive, impressive, he's got skills."
It wasn't just the surrounding children shouting in excitement; even the parents watching were joyfully whispering and discussing it.
The old man standing behind the stall was beaming and said with a smile, "The front row is five yuan each, the middle row is ten yuan each, and the back row is twenty yuan each!"
Lin Feng took a glance and discovered that the sugar figures stuck on the stall varied in size.
The front row was relatively simple, the middle row had more refined designs, and the back row had even more intricate designs, with the animals molded being basically lifelike.
Suddenly, Xiaoxue pointed at the Sun Wukong holding a golden cudgel in the very back and asked, "What about that one? What about that one?"
"That one isn't for sale; that one is for display," the old man said.
A look of disappointment immediately appeared on Xiaoxue's face.
Seeing Xiaoxue's disappointed expression, Lin Feng comforted her, "Daddy will just buy you a twenty-yuan one. These sugar figures are all molded from the same sugar syrup, so they taste the same."
"But I want that one... that one looks the best," Xiaoxue said, pointing at Sun Wukong.
Lin Feng said, "Actually, it doesn't look that much better. This old man's craftsmanship is still lacking; the sugar figures he molds only have a rough image, and the details are handled very poorly."
Lin Feng wasn't intentionally belittling the old man who molded the sugar figures; he just didn't want Xiaoxue to be so disappointed.
But as soon as Lin Feng said this, boos erupted all around, and the old man selling the sugar figures glared with wide eyes.
"What do you know, you youngster! I've been molding sugar figures for over fifty years. You dare say my craft is bad? Let me tell you, everyone in Minle City knows me, Zhao Laosan. Even the City Head has eaten my sugar figures and praised them!" the sugar-molding Zhao Laotou said angrily, his hand holding the small wooden stick trembling.
Yet, when Lin Feng heard that the City Head had eaten them and praised them, he found it quite amusing.
The City Head of Minle City, isn't that just his Seventh Senior Sister, Hua Yuerong?
Lin Feng shook his head to chase away the wild thoughts in his mind, wanting to explain, but Xiaoxue puffed up with anger and shouted at this Zhao Laotou and the people around them: "My daddy is amazing, if he says your skills aren't enough, then your skills aren't enough!"
