Chapter 309: Your lucky cat was scared off by that dog
That person didn't even glance at Zheng Xuan and Jiao Ba, just walked straight ahead.
After brushing past that person, Zheng Xuan glanced back, then prepared to bring Jiao Ba and Yuan Zhiyi downstairs to leave.
Zheng Tan was hiding in Jiao Ba's backpack behind him, he kept watching that person; seeing the person walk to the door of room 215, just then the room's door opened, and a woman about thirty came out.
The woman originally had a smile, but upon seeing the person at the door, her smile faded immediately; she frowned and asked, "How did you come? Have you finished things over there..."
Before the woman could finish speaking, the person at the door grabbed her throat and slammed her against the wall.
"You're even betraying me!!"
The person almost shouted those words; Zheng Tan sensed the person's emotions were off—just moments ago too calm, now it seemed all anger had erupted, making people feel uneasy.
People also came out of room 215 to try to stop him, but to no avail; instead he kicked them aside, and even the waiter who came to mediate was knocked to the ground.
At this point, everyone around realized something was wrong—some stepped forward to stop him, others hurriedly fled into private rooms for shelter.
The soundproofing of the private rooms at Guqin She was indeed excellent; thus, although a sudden incident occurred in the corridor, many people inside the rooms had no idea what was happening.
Several strong young men stepped forward to subdue the seemingly mad person, but they didn't expect him to pull out a folding knife, over twenty centimeters long; Zheng Tan didn't think this guy normally carried one, guessing he already had the intention to do something here when he came. When a person goes crazy, they'll do anything.
The two who first rushed in to break up the fight: one got his arm sliced, the other got a stab to the shoulder; this was thanks to their quick reflexes dodging in time, otherwise the injuries would have been worse.
When they heard the argument over there just now, Yuan Zhiyi and the others stopped and turned to look; Yuan Zhiyi and Jiao Ba were about to go help, but Zheng Xuan held them back. Zheng Xuan knew the person's background—he used to be a hoodlum, had some skills, later made a fortune through some events; his business was doing okay. But recently he was screwed over by rivals, his company went bankrupt, and he became paranoid. Guys like Jiao Ba and Yuan Zhiyi, with little fighting ability, going up would just be asking for a beating, and besides, the other's emotions were off. Zheng Xuan guessed the person was probably ready to go all out, not caring about anything else; it was better not to go up.
Zheng Xuan, holding Yuan Zhiyi and Jiao Ba, had already reached the stairs, ready to go down, without paying attention to the situation over there; he only knew from the sound that they were still entangled, and there were also a few security guards from Guqin She on this second floor.
Zheng Xuan and his three companions didn't see the situation over there, but Zheng Tan kept watching; although Guqin She's security aren't top fighters, three against one they barely held the upper hand—of course this doesn't mean the guards are useless; after all they had some reservations and were somewhat restrained, while the opponent was completely berserk, stabbing whoever he saw.
One guard found an opportunity and tried to kick the knife from his hand; the person reacted quickly, dodging a bit, but his arm took a hit, went numb, and the knife flew out.
The knife flew through the gap between Yuan Zhiyi and Jiao Ba; Zheng Tan had been craning his neck to look that way, and as the knife whizzed past beside him, it nearly grazed his ear, letting him feel the cold, hard metallic vibration through the few hairs on his ear tip.
Because of the knife thrown over, the three who had just lifted their feet to go downstairs paused.
Yuan Zhiyi's forehead sweat instantly dripped down; looking at the mark the folding knife left on the stair rail, one can imagine what would happen if that thrown knife had slashed someone.
"Fuck!" Yuan Zhiyi cursed. His voice trembled a bit, not knowing whether to lament bad luck or feel fortunate.
Jiao Ba was about to comfort Yuan Zhiyi when he felt a lightness behind him; he didn't have time to say more, turned back, and saw his own cat dashing straight toward the melee, moving at breakneck speed.
"Hei Tan!"
After Zheng Tan snapped out of the shock from the knife that nearly sliced his ear, the anger he'd been holding in because of his father flared up again; he didn't think about anything else, jumped out of the backpack, and charged over with a belly full of rage, not even heeding Jiao Ba's shouts.
Shu Dong, who was rinsing his mouth with mouthwash while having dinner with friends in room 216, opened the private room door intending to go to the restroom, but as soon as he opened it he saw a person at the doorway with red blood stains being kicked in the back by a flying black cat.
"Pfft!"
In his excitement, that mouthful of mouthwash he was swishing just sprayed out.
If it were an ordinary person, they'd probably scream, shut the door and hide, or doubt they'd opened the door wrong, thinking it a hallucination—after all, in the private room they knew nothing about outside events, and were listening to soothing blues music, the atmosphere harmonious; who'd expect to see such a starkly different bloody, violent scene upon opening the door?
But, as Zheng Xuan said, Shu Dong is quite interesting, a bit unconventional.
Thus, while others in the private rooms screamed, shut the door and hid, Shu Dong's spirit was shaken, he rolled up his sleeves and shouted loudly: "Mars, go!"
This "go" wasn't just for Mars; Shu Dong also intended to join the fight himself, meaning he and his pet would team up to take care of this guy.
Unfortunately, Shu Dong hadn't even fully stepped out of the private room door, Mars hadn't rushed out yet, and the person who had been kicked to the ground by Zheng Tan from behind had already been subdued; security personnel were also coming up from below, and according to them, police would be arriving soon.
The person and dog ready to enter the fray couldn't exert any strength at all.
After delivering that kick, Zheng Tan felt much better; seeing the person subdued by the guards here, knowing the situation was under control, he prepared to go back to Jiao Ba. Turning around, he came face to face with a black dog's face—its size was about half his own height.
Zheng Tan: "……"
Jiao Ba had already come running over, his face still showing lingering worry; he never imagined his cat would have the guts to charge forward—just seeing his cat dash that way earlier had almost made his heart jump into his throat. Now the matter was settled, Jiao Ba watched the cat running toward him, thinking he'd give it a good scolding when they got back.
But, as he reached out to welcome his cat running over to jump into his arms, Jiao Ba realized he was wrong—very wrong.
Zheng Tan darted past Jiao Ba's side, moving quite fast, straight for the stairwell, then downstairs out the Guqin She main door, completely ignoring Jiao Ba's outstretched arms.
Jiao Ba: "……"
Over there, Yuan Zhiyi saw what happened and shouted: "Ming Sheng, quick—your lucky cat was scared off by that dog!"
Mars, who had originally been curious and was about to go up to sniff and greet Zheng Tan in dog fashion, didn't expect Zheng Tan to sprint off; he tilted his head, looking at the nearby owner Shu Dong, seeming quite puzzled.
The fight didn't happen; no merit was gained; instead he got labeled with the hat of "cat-scarrer".
But Shu Dong also couldn't refute it; what Yuan Zhiyi said was what everyone thought—otherwise why would the cat suddenly turn and run?
Actually, Yuan Zhiyi and company's guesses were all wrong; Zheng Tan's immediate turn and run wasn't because he feared the big dog—he clearly knows whether approaching animals mean good or ill; the dog named Mars has kind eyes, likely used to seeing other animals and getting along fine with cats. He also wasn't afraid of Jiao Ba's scolding, but rather remembered something.
He recalled that when he came to Guqin She years ago to argue with his father, he had encountered a similar situation; but back then, when he arrived, the Guqin She entrance already had many police cars and ambulances, the people being carried out covered in blood, adults and children still shaken. If this incident is the same as that one from back then, then at this moment, the "Zheng Tan" existing in this time-space point should have driven over—he's probably right at the Guqin She entrance right now!!
Thinking this, Zheng Tan no longer had the mind to worry about anything else; he just bolted out.
When Zheng Tan reached the entrance, police cars had already arrived, the surroundings were crowded with people, and his father was shouting in some direction, his face grim.
That's right—he definitely came!
Zheng Tan ran that way, but because the crowd was too thick, he leapt from a parked car nearby, then searched for that figure and the familiar vehicle.
He found the car, but when he looked over, all he saw was the door being forcibly shut.
That's the car!
That was the car his father bought for him on his birthday—not because he doted on his son, but just to shut Zheng Tan up and keep him from meddling. Normally the car has a dedicated driver, since at this time Zheng Tan is still a minor, like Jiao Yuan.
Seeing the car drive off, Zheng Tan immediately gave chase. He really wanted to shout, "You damn bastard, wait for me, old man!" but he couldn't utter it, so he just kept running after it.
Jiao Ba came out of Guqin She, squeezed through the crowd to look outside, and saw his cat dart across the road in front of the Guqin She entrance, with plenty of traffic coming and going; this turned Jiao Ba's face white, drenched in cold sweat. Seeing Zheng Tan make it across safely, his heart still hadn't settled, and moreover he soon realized he could no longer see the black cat's shadow.
Zheng Tan sprinted, unable to see the person in the driver's seat of the car; he had almost caught up when the car, having passed an intersection and sped onto a wider road, accelerated again, widening the gap between them.
Zheng Tan couldn't pin his hopes on random cars on the road whose destinations he didn't know; he could only rely on himself, recalling while running along the sidewalk where he had gone after arguing with his father at Guqin She years ago—though he couldn't remember at the moment—and thinking where he used to go when in a bad mood back then; to chase the car pulling farther ahead, he took a shortcut, having often driven this car around the area before, so he knew the terrain fairly well; thus, even though he hadn't come here in years, he could still recall some of it.
Emerging from a side lane's junction, Zheng Tan just caught sight of the familiar car moving past, didn't pause to rest, and kept chasing.
Zheng Tan also didn't know what kind of mindset he had; he just thought it would be great if he could see it in person.
Real or fake?
Dream or not?
If I truly had returned to the past and turned into such a black cat, would the person existing at that past time-space point still be living the original life as per the original trajectory? (To be continued…)
