Chapter 227: Advanced Pet Beast

As for the new skill she was about to learn, Qiao Sang had basically made up her mind the moment Lu Lu Lu finished demonstrating the skills it already knew.

It was Water Jet.

Water Jet, a Water-type physical attack skill.

The skill's effect wasn't literally shooting out a stream of water, but rather wrapping the water flow around the pet beast's entire body, so that the pet beast slammed into the opponent along with the water.

Qiao Sang had thought it through carefully.

Lu Lu Lu's aptitude wasn't high, so letting it learn an advanced skill at this stage was definitely unrealistic.

Water Jet was a mid-tier skill, but among all the mid-tier Water-type skills it was considered one of the harder ultimate moves to learn. Given Lu Lu Lu's aptitude, learning this move would normally be estimated to take years.

But Qiao Sang felt it wouldn't take that long, because Lu Lu Lu knew Aqua Tail.

Aqua Tail and Water Jet had something in common — both required using water flow to wrap around a part of the body.

A skill could promote a pet beast's growth, and could also lead to the comprehension of another skill.

Most beast tamers who wanted their pet beasts to learn and comprehend advanced skills would usually first have the pet beast build a solid foundation by learning a corresponding low- or mid-tier skill.

Take the Water-type advanced skill Cannon Water Gun, for example.

Having a pet beast directly comprehend Cannon Water Gun was basically impossible, but if the pet beast first learned the mid-tier skill Water Gun and then learned Cannon Water Gun, the success rate would greatly increase.

The logic was like how a student had to complete nine years of compulsory education before being able to pass the high school entrance exam and become a Gao Zhongsheng — otherwise, without a solid foundation, taking high school problems and trying to solve them directly would be completely incomprehensible.

In the living room.

Qiao Sang took out her phone and searched for videos related to Water Jet for Lu Lu Lu to watch.

Lu Lu Lu blinked as it watched.

In the video, a Water-type pet beast wrapped water flow around its entire body and slammed hard into a Grass-type pet beast ten times its size.

The Grass-type pet beast stood firm as a mountain, motionless, and even picked its nose.

Lu Lu Lu immediately widened its eyes — it was supposed to learn this?

"Oops." Qiao Sang quickly swiped up on the screen with her finger.

The video jumped.

In the next clip, a Water-type pet beast used Water Jet to dodge a barrage of fire attacks mid-air before slamming into the Fire-type pet beast it was battling.

The Fire-type pet beast grinned, magma rose up over its body, and it burrowed straight into the ground.

The Water-type pet beast lost its target and slammed headfirst into the rock face behind it.

The sound of rock shattering came from the video.

Lu Lu Lu's eyes went wide again.

Qiao Sang was silent for a few seconds, pressed pause, and said, "Look at this move — how powerful it is. A rock this big was smashed to pieces in one hit."

Lu Lu Lu stared at the shattered rock on the screen, its expression blank for a moment, then nodded.

It did seem to be the case…

"Right now your only physical attack is Aqua Tail, but to get close enough to use Aqua Tail and actually hit the opponent, you either have to seize the right timing, or be so much faster than your opponent that it can't react in time," Qiao Sang said.

Lu Lu Lu listened and found it very reasonable, its expression involuntarily turning serious.

"But timing isn't that easy to seize, and your speed isn't good enough either."

Lu Lu Lu: "…"

"But that's fine." Qiao Sang tapped on her phone to replay the video, and when the clip reached the part where the Water-type pet beast used Water Jet to dodge the flames, she continued, "Look — using Water Jet not only boosts your speed, it's also much more powerful than Aqua Tail. Even if you can't land a hit on the opponent, it's still great for dodging attacks."

"You see, using Water Jet not only speeds you up, but its power is also much stronger than Water Tail. Even if this move can't hit the opponent, it's still great for dodging attacks."

Lu Lu Lu cried out once, indicating agreement.

Suicune let out a cry, indicating her agreement.

The Little Treasure Ghost beside her habitually began translating.

"Then it's decided! Let's start right now." Qiao Sang said with a smile.

Although the two clips she'd just played were pretty terrible, luckily Lu Lu Lu seemed pretty easy to fool.

Qiao Sang brought Lu Lu Lu out to the courtyard, found a spot with a watermelon-sized rock, and said, "First, try your best to wrap water flow around your whole body. It should feel about the same as when you use Aqua Tail."

Qiao Sang brought Suicune to the courtyard, found a spot with a watermelon-sized rock, and said: "First, try hard to wrap the water flow around your whole body. It should feel about the same as when you use Water Tail."

"Once you can smash this rock apart just like in the video, the move will be complete." Qiao Sang pointed at the watermelon-sized rock on the ground and said.

"Once you can smash this rock apart just like in the video, this move will be complete." Qiao Sang said, pointing at the watermelon-sized rock on the ground.

Lu Lu Lu looked at the rock on the ground, its gaze resolute, and without a word of hesitation began letting water flow wrap upward from its tail.

But the water only wrapped halfway up its body before Lu Lu Lu slammed headfirst into the rock.

However, the water flow only wrapped around half of its body before Suicune slammed headfirst into the rock.

A crack appeared in the rock.

"Lu Lu!"

Lu Lu Lu looked at the cracked rock, eyes lighting up, and pointed at the rock with an excited expression as it cried out to Qiao Sang.

Suicune's eyes lit up at the sight of the cracked rock, and she excitedly cried out to Qiao Sang while pointing at it.

Watching Lu Lu Lu with a big bump on its head still looking so excited, Qiao Sang sighed deeply inside.

Not only was its aptitude lacking, it was also a bit dumb.

It seemed more reliable to think about how to evolve Lu Lu Lu.

"Not bad, you cracked it open." Qiao Sang crouched down, pointed at the bump on Lu Lu Lu's head, and asked, "But didn't you feel any pain?"

Lu Lu Lu's expression went blank, and it reached up with a short toe to feel its head.

Suicune's expression went blank for a moment, and she reached up with a short toe to touch her head.

It hurts!

It hurts!

"You just now broke the rock apart with pure brute force, not by using water jet." Qiao Sang said with a smile.

"Lu Lu Lu…"

Shui Lu Ya Na pursed her lips.

"This is only the first time, it's perfectly normal to fail." Qiao Sang comforted her: "Like Ya Bao when she first practiced… Meteor Shower, it took her a lot of time too."

Shui Lu Ya Na's ears perked up at the mention of Ya Bao.

"Don't rush at the rock yet. You have to let the water flow wrap around your whole body first." Qiao Sang said, thinking of Ya Bao, then continued: "If you don't understand, you can actually ask Ya Bao. She knows Flame Charge, which is also wrapping energy around the whole body — the only difference is she's fire and you're water."

"Lu Lu Lu…"

Shui Lu Ya Na looked at Ya Bao, who was not far away concentrating on practicing Fire Fang, her expression turned a little awkward, and she nodded very reluctantly.

At this moment, no one noticed a Water Slug silently turning around at the corner of the courtyard wall and crawling back.

……

Night.

Qiao Sang lay in bed and, out of habit, opened the Beast Codex before sleep to take a look.

【Name: Flame Hound】

【Grade: Intermediate (1407/)+】

【Points:】

……Although she had long been prepared, looking at this number Qiao Sang still couldn't help the excitement welling up inside.

Today's fights weren't for nothing!

These points were already enough to evolve Ya Bao into an Advanced pet beast!

An Advanced pet beast! That was an Advanced pet beast!

If Low and Intermediate pet beasts were the standard for beast tamers, then among beast tamers who possessed an Advanced pet beast, with no age limit, there might be only one out of every 500.

Setting aside aptitude reasons, part of it was also because the resources required for most pet beasts to evolve into Advanced pet beasts were simply too expensive.

Even if some pet beasts' evolution conditions were easy to meet, one still had to consider whether, after it evolved into an Advanced pet beast, you could still afford to raise it.

A beast tamer who possessed an Advanced pet beast could completely step out of the category of novice beast tamers.

Being qualified to form a team and enter a secret realm was the best proof of that.

Qiao Sang kept a clear head and did not impulsively let Ya Bao evolve directly into an Advanced pet beast.

She remembered that if a pet beast exceeded its own limit of energy value before evolving, its upper limit after evolution would be far higher than other pet beasts of the same rank.

When Ya Bao was still a Fire Fang Dog, the energy value in her body already exceeded the range of a Beginner pet beast. Qiao Sang wanted Ya Bao to be the same at the Flame Hound stage.

Tomorrow she'd go get it measured first!

Qiao Sang, excitedly thinking this over, turned to the next page.
