Chapter 165: This Is Too Miserable
"No way, what kind of move is this?"
Yang Tianxing wondered if he had lifted a rock only to drop it on his own feet; why was Tan Zhizhi reacting like this? She was way too unyielding.
Meanwhile, a burst of laughter erupted in the lecture hall. Others couldn't hear the content of their conversation and didn't notice the micro-expressions, assuming Yang Tianxing had tried to hit on her and failed.
"Brother, don't be discouraged."
A male student behind him patted Yang Tianxing on the shoulder: "It's normal to be rejected by Tan Zhizhi. I suggest you don't be so impatient next time; take it one step at a time."
Yang Tianxing shook off his hand, thinking, impatient my foot. When I was kissing Xiao Zhiliao, you guys didn't even know where you were.
The instructor signaled from the podium that class was about to start, but since he couldn't sit with Tan Zhizhi, Yang Tianxing wasn't going to sit obediently in the classroom either; he picked up his documents and walked out the back door.
Tian Jiayi leaned against the doorway, shook her head, and said: "I gave you a chance, but you're just useless."
"Damn!"
Yang Tianxing walked away quickly.
Tian Jiayi walked back and sat down next to Tan Zhizhi, whispering: "He's gone."
Tan Zhizhi didn't make a sound.
Tian Jiayi looked up and saw that although Tan Zhizhi's eyes were red, she was still stubbornly holding her chin up; only after hearing that Yang Tianxing had left did her face gradually fill with grievance.
"Sigh~"
Tian Jiayi wrapped her arm around Tan Zhizhi's shoulder. Xiao Zhiliao had willingly been busy for Yang Tianxing for two weeks, only for things to turn out like this the moment they met.
It seemed their emotional entanglement was even more complicated than imagined, but since Tan Zhizhi wouldn't talk about it, Tian Jiayi had no way to offer comfort.
After leaving Jiaotong University, Yang Tianxing smoked two cigarettes in his car to calm his mood, then called Shao Ziyang to ask him out for a meal.
There was no need for formalities between best friends. Shao Ziyang took Yang Tianxing to a street food stall near his school: "The most famous thing here is the spicy snails. Don't go back tonight; let's drink some alcohol. Park your car at my school, and you can sleep in my dorm."
The stall was filled mostly with college students, all boisterously drinking beer. The numbing and spicy scent of the snails filled the air, and Yang Tianxing's appetite and craving for alcohol were piqued, so he agreed.
They picked a table and sat down. Shao Ziyang ordered two plates of snails. The two chatted aimlessly, occasionally picking up a snail to pop into their mouths, taking a gulp of ice-cold Snowflake beer to wash down the numbing spice, feeling satisfied from head to toe.
They leisurely lit cigarettes, watching the smoke drift and rise under the bright lights of the food stall.
"Are you still being a 'lick-dog' lately?" Yang Tianxing asked.
Shao Ziyang didn't have a high tolerance for alcohol; after a few beers, his ears turned red. He muttered: "You dog, that sounds terrible. I just want to have a normal relationship."
Yang Tianxing raised his glass: "There's no need to go after someone like Jiang Mumu."
"You introduce one to me then, requirements aren't high, a female celebrity type will do."
Shao Ziyang said, breathing out alcohol fumes.
Hearing Shao Ziyang's requirements, he nodded and said: "Female celebrities are a bit difficult. If that really won't work, how about a campus beauty?"
Shao Ziyang was stunned: "Are you kidding me?"
Yang Tianxing glanced at him: "You were the one kidding me first."
Shao Ziyang had never won a verbal sparring match against Yang Tianxing. He probably understood this himself, so he grunted as he filled their glasses and clinked them with Yang Tianxing, saying hesitantly: "Little Yang, next week is Jiang Mumu's birthday."
"Oh."
Yang Tianxing replied with one word; he was waiting for what Shao Ziyang had to say next.
"What kind of gift do you think I should give? You are a master of romance, after all."
Shao Ziyang asked for advice.
"Normal couples give flowers, chocolates, things like that."
Yang Tianxing sat lazily in his chair and retorted: "What is your relationship, are you a couple? I reckon you haven't even held hands yet."
"Bullshit!"
Shao Ziyang argued in his own defense: "One time after eating it started raining, and when I held an umbrella to walk her back, our hands touched several times."
"Impressive, impressive."
Yang Tianxing raised his glass: "We must toast to celebrate that hand-touching."
Just as they were about to clink glasses, the table next to them suddenly became rowdy. The whole group was egging them on: "Kiss! Kiss!"
The two looked over. It seemed a male student had confessed while drinking, the girl had finally agreed, and the others were cheering loudly.
The boy's eyes held joy, and he feigned refusal, saying, "This isn't great, everyone stop," but his mouth was slowly leaning in.
Although the girl wasn't very pretty, the shy way she closed her eyes waiting made Yang Tianxing feel a sudden pang of bitterness.
Especially the moment the boy leaned in to kiss her, Yang Tianxing and Shao Ziyang cursed in unison: "Damn it!"
Shao Ziyang was puzzled: "I'm bitter because I haven't chased Jiang Mumu, but even if Xiao Zhiliao left your side, don't you still have Liu Jiaoyue? Even just by herself, she's a presence that sweeps across all the female students in the Chang'an District universities. What are you bitter about?"
Yang Tianxing picked up his beer and downed it in one gulp: "Liu Jiaoyue and I have some problems too."
"Broke up?"
Yang Tianxing shook his head: "Not exactly. You know her personality. Sometimes when I'm a bit intimate with other girls or do something out of line, she just bottles it up inside and doesn't say anything."
"I'm worried that if this goes on for too long, there will really be a problem, so I'm letting her return to her books for now and keeping some distance so she knows less about what I'm doing."
Shao Ziyang thought for a moment: "Even though you explained so much, it's basically a breakup."
Yang Tianxing was a bit impatient: "If you're happier understanding it that way, then fine. In any case, Liu Jiaoyue is my person, and no one is allowed to touch her."
Shao Ziyang raised his beer glass: "How could I? If my own brother breaks up, I'd be happy? Am I even human... Heh, hehe, hehehe."
Yang Tianxing watched Shao Ziyang trying to hold back his laughter and said directly: "Don't hide it, damn it. If you want to laugh, just laugh your heart out."
"You said it yourself, hahahaha, hahahaha."
Shao Ziyang really laughed heartily and couldn't stop: "Little Yang, you have your days too. You mock me for being a 'lick-dog' all day, but it turns out you're in an even more miserable state than me..."
Yang Tianxing finished the last of his beer: "I'm leaving. I should have known better than to tell you."
Tonight was definitely the time Shao Ziyang paid the bill most readily. He didn't know why, but hearing about Yang Tianxing's situation, he didn't feel any urge to comfort him, only wanting to laugh out loud.
He even wanted to needle him a bit: "Little Yang, if I go to Chuan-Yu again during winter break this year, you shouldn't come along, so we don't all end up feeling awkward."
Yang Tianxing was stunned for a moment: "Why are you going there? They aren't even familiar with you."
"You can't put it that way; you and Liu Jiaoyue can discuss your affairs, while I discuss mine with Granny and the little girl."
"Shao Ziyang, you really are shameless."
Shao Ziyang slept in the male dormitory at Northwestern Polytechnical University that night, and Shao Ziyang's roommates didn't think anything of it.
In university, roommates and classmates often came to the dormitory, especially since Yang Tianxing was very good at socializing, and he even took the opportunity while bragging to learn about the express delivery collection market at Northwestern Polytechnical University.
"Little Yang, you sleep on my bed, I'll sleep on the floor." Shao Ziyang spread a mat on the floor.
"I'll sleep on the floor."
Chen Hansheng shook his head and said, "I wouldn't dare sleep on these bedsheets of yours."
