Chapter 47: A Brand New Mobile Phone

~8 min read 1,592 words

Yang Tianxing asked for a mobile phone, and Zhang Liye was not surprised; Yang Tianxing was not an ordinary college student to begin with, so it was not strange for him to make any request.

Zhang Liye sized up Yang Tianxing for a moment: "You don't want the 2,000 yuan, so it's probably just because you want a mobile phone, right?"

Shentong Express operated on a franchise system, and since Zhang Liye was able to become the general manager of Shentong Express for the Chang'an District, a mobile phone was well within his means.

Especially since Yang Tianxing had just intentionally yielded the favor of gift-giving to him back at the school, Zhang Liye truly felt it was a brilliant move.

Yang Tianxing said with a grin: "The significance is different. The cigarettes were to secure the project, while the phone is for the project's development. I should count as a major agent for the school's business now, so requesting a phone isn't excessive."

Zhang Liye thought for a moment; Yang Tianxing had territory at the Finance Institute (two abandoned storage rooms with high foot traffic), connections (he got along very well with the Youth League Committee), and status (Vice Minister of the Student Union and class monitor). Looking at it comprehensively, Zhang Liye nodded: "Not excessive."

"Let's head back to the branch first. We just finished lunch, let's have a cup of tea to help with digestion."

Zhang Liye didn't say he agreed, but he didn't refuse either; he prepared to discuss the agency commission rates with Yang Tianxing.

In the second-floor office on Changning Road, as Zhang Liye brewed tea for Yang Tianxing, he took out a price agreement and said: "This is Wang Jundong's agency rate. He gets a commission of 50 cents per parcel, but your conditions are different. How about 80 cents for every parcel you collect?"

Yang Tianxing didn't make a sound. He carefully read through the entire agreement first, then asked: "Earlier I said I wanted to be the general agent for the Finance Institute, Foreign Studies University, University of Political Science and Law, and the University of Posts and Telecommunications. What does Manager Zhang think of that?"

"That's no problem. You will be the general agent, and they will all be your downlines. I don't care how you distribute the profits between your uplines and downlines; in any case, your commission is 80 cents."

Zhang Liye agreed without hesitation. The potential and ability Yang Tianxing displayed were far beyond other campus agents; naturally, Zhang Liye did not want to get involved in the specific details.

For example, the collection commission Zhang Liye gave Yang Tianxing was 80 cents per item. If Yang Tianxing developed downlines, he would have to split the profit out of those 80 cents, perhaps ending up with only 20 cents per item, but the benefit was that he wouldn't need to do the work himself.

Seeing Zhang Liye so insistent, Yang Tianxing sipped his tea and said: "Manager Zhang is a bit stubborn."

"What, do you have an objection to this price?"

Zhang Liye asked with a frown. No college student had ever had an opinion on the commission before; Yang Tianxing was the first.

Yang Tianxing waved his hand: "I don't have an objection, I have a better suggestion."

"Let's hear it."

"I think we can set a standard line. For example, if a certain collection volume is reached within a week, the commission can be raised from 80 cents to 1.2 yuan, and so on. This can incentivize the downlines' enthusiasm... Manager Zhang, why do you keep staring at me?"

Yang Tianxing had just proposed this idea, and before he could even finish speaking, he saw Zhang Liye looking at him in astonishment.

"Did you do business at home, kid?"

"No."

"Then how do you know so much?"

"My major is management; there's a similar example in the textbook."

Yang Tianxing, who slept through class, pulled out his textbook as a shield again. However, Zhang Liye nodded and believed him: "No wonder they say there is a house of gold in books. Manager Yang, you just mentioned it, but I couldn't have thought of it at all."

Hearing the title "Manager Yang" for the first time, Yang Tianxing felt a bit dazed. *I've finally become 'Manager Yang' again. *

"Manager Yang's proposal is excellent. I will tell you once I calculate the standards, and we'll start promoting it from your side first. Do you have any other ideas?" Zhang Liye asked earnestly.

"How did Manager Zhang collect campus parcels before?" Yang Tianxing asked again.

"Because the school's business volume isn't large, we go to collect them every two or three days, dispatching a vehicle from here to collect from several schools at once."

Yang Tianxing thought for a moment: "If the collection volume reaches a certain standard in the future, I want a resident collector at the school. That way, we can collect once a day and improve work efficiency."

Zhang Liye nodded: "No problem. As long as you reach the profit targets, hiring one more person is no big deal."

Yang Tianxing tossed over a cigarette and said with a chuckle: "I'll be the one to pay this person's salary; you just need to find an experienced employee."

"You'll pay it?"

Zhang Liye pondered for a moment, looking at Yang Tianxing meaningfully: "Young man, you have a deep mind. Wouldn't the business of all four schools be firmly under your control this way?"

"Does Manager Zhang want to be an emperor? A manager just needs to lie back and make money; for small matters, one should appropriately delegate power to subordinates," Yang Tianxing said dismissively.

"I'm not a lady of the night, I don't need to lie down to make money. I can agree to this condition too. I'll send an honest and experienced collector over, and I'll make it clear to him that Manager Yang is the boss who pays the salary."

Zhang Liye said, pretending to be angry, but in his heart, he was actually quite happy. The more mature Yang Tianxing appeared, the more optimistic he was about the school market.

"OK, then I have no more issues. I'll come back to sign the agreement once Manager Zhang determines the standards. I'm heading back now."

Yang Tianxing said "heading back," but his butt didn't move from his seat.

"Anything else?"

Zhang Liye asked curiously.

Yang Tianxing said with a grin: "I'm thinking about how I can contact Manager Zhang quickly if I have new ideas in the future."

Zhang Liye gave a "humph," stood up, walked to his desk, opened a drawer, and took out an unopened mobile phone: "This is the new phone I was planning to switch to. You use it first."

Yang Tianxing took it and looked—a Nokia 5210, a very classic model. He casually tore open the packaging and threw it on the floor.

Zhang Liye watched, stunned: "Is this your first mobile phone?"

"Yes," Yang Tianxing nodded.

Zhang Liye's expression was somewhat complex: "When I bought my first phone, I couldn't even bear to throw away the English manual inside because I couldn't understand it."

"That's too pretentious."

Yang Tianxing patted his butt and stood up. This time he really left, and on the way, he stopped at Hejiaying to get a mobile SIM card.

……………

In the evening, Yang Tianxing went to the meeting on time. There were many people in the activity room; they were all ministers or vice ministers of various departments. The meeting hadn't officially started yet, and the student union cadres were standing around loosely, chatting.

Since the main topic of this meeting was organizing the freshman gala, the position of the External Liaison Department was quite important. All three vice chairmen were interacting with Zhang Wei and Xun Can.

Zhang Wei saw Yang Tianxing coming over and greeted him: "Yang Tianxing, come get your student union name tag."

As this was called out, the noise in the activity room suddenly quieted down a lot. Many people had already heard of Yang Tianxing's name; they were very curious about this freshman troublemaker who had toppled the former vice minister Zhou Yang and taken his place.

Yang Tianxing ignored them and walked over with a smile to take the name tag. It read: "Vice Minister of the External Liaison Department, Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty, Yang Tianxing."

"Do I really have to wear this around my neck the whole time?"

Yang Tianxing joked with Zhang Wei.

Before Zhang Wei could answer, the gloomy-eyed Vice Chairman Long Fuxin spoke up and scolded: "You'd better not wear it. I'm really worried you'll ruin the image of the student union!"

"Are you fucking done yet? Didn't I teach you a lesson last time?"

Yang Tianxing turned his head impatiently. Zhang Wei hurriedly blocked the middle, terrified that Yang Tianxing would slap him if he got annoyed.

However, Yang Tianxing would not make a move in a place like this at a time like this; he saw Long Fuxin deliberately exposing the black pager at his waist, with a metal chain at the end connected to a holster, forming an arc as it hung from his belt.

"It's nothing."

Yang Tianxing found it amusing for a moment and let out a "tch" at Long Fuxin, then took a brand-new Nokia 5210 out of his pocket and placed it on the table: "It's not like there's still someone in this day and age taking out a pager to act cool, right?"
