Chapter 243: Luo Lin
Let’s rewind time a little.
Just as Jack and the others were preparing the summoning ritual, Warren and his wife at the lakeside cabin finally called the church.
They also found some records related to this house among the vast amount of data they carried.
Around a hundred years ago, in 1863, a woman named Thayer married the house’s owner—Sherman, took the name Bathsheba, bore him a child, but only a week later, she threw the infant into the fireplace and sacrificed it to the devil.
After the incident, she claimed she carried witch blood, was a descendant of witches, loved Satan, and cursed those who sought to take her land, then hanged herself.
Since then, this house has been cursed; every night at 3:07 a.m., Bathsheba’s malevolent spirit emerges to torment, driving mothers to kill their own children by tormenting their minds, replicating what she once did.
To this day, many people have died in this house.
It is a true haunted house!
“So, Mr. Roger, you were probably scammed by the agent.”
Ed Warren looked at them with sympathy.
Roger and Caroline exchanged glances, forcing bitter smiles—had they not been too eager to make money, they would have investigated properly.
“Then what should we do now? Can we still move out?”
“No, Bathsheba has already latched onto you; the ritual is nearly complete—how could she let you go?”
At that moment.
Hum!!
An invisible force pulled.
It seemed some malevolent spirit, enraged by Ed exposing her past, violently seized one of Roger’s daughters and suspended her midair.
“Aaaah!!”
“Help!!”
Then.
Thud!
She slammed hard into Ed.
“Ugh.”
Struck violently, Ed collapsed to the floor; Luo Lin, seeing this, panicked and rushed over to help him up.
But Bathsheba, now like a mad thing, plunged the entire house into chaos.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Crack! Crack! Crack!
Everything flew, fell, shattered!
Lying on the ground, Ed sharply sensed something wrong: “No! Bathsheba isn’t angry because I exposed her—she’s excited! Something’s off! Luo Lin, quickly, get them out of this house!”
But Luo Lin stood frozen, trembling violently; in her eyes, a gray-white female spirit grinned grotesquely, staring with wild excitement at a certain direction.
Following that direction.
Luo Lin saw unspeakable horror!!
Space twisted, souls darted through, and the surroundings blurred—her extraordinary spiritual perception revealed an extraordinary vision.
A hellish rift swarming with flies!
A horrific feast of flesh and remains!
Someone was trying to open a passage between hell and the mortal world, welcoming demons down.
Hum!!
Not only that—this moment, Luo Lin’s surge of insight pulled her to see other demons.
Her gaze shifted rapidly, the surroundings blurring as if time and space warped—in the blink of an eye, she stood before a landmark sign, seemingly somewhere in England.
In the sewer.
Amid filthy, stagnant fluid, a tall black figure resembling a weeping woman sped through it; behind her, a group of black-robed cultists followed relentlessly; her gaze slowly rose.
Settled on a woman with her head bowed, carrying a box—no, on what she carried!
Inside the box, a grotesque demonic face flickered in and out.
But!
It wasn’t over.
Her gaze kept moving!
Following the woman’s path, her vision drifted to an apartment—darkness, thick with sinister dread, spread relentlessly, eager to devour the light and swallow the entire house into shadow.
In the corner, the soul of an old man in a wheelchair stared at her in agony: “Run… fast…”
???
What? What was he saying? What did it mean?
Before Luo Lin could comprehend or react,
A pale claw reached from the darkness, gripping the old man’s shoulder; a grotesque nun’s ghostly face emerged, jaws lined with sharp, clashing teeth, smiling at her with a warning.
Next instant.
The ghostly face surged forward, arriving before Luo Lin.
Inches away!!
Hum!!!
Emotions surged violently—Luo Lin snapped her eyes open.
“Aaaah!!”
This strong woman, who had endured countless supernatural events, wept at this moment.
Pachi!
She collapsed to her knees, tears streaming, utterly fragile and helpless—and a trace of sorrow?
Luo Lin’s mind replayed the vision—not just the terrifying nun’s face, but also the warning image the spirit had implanted in her mind.
In that vision,
Her husband—Ed—was dead, murdered!
She understood: it was the nun’s warning—don’t interfere, don’t go to England!
Or else, die.
“Huh… breath… huh…”
She trembled violently, throwing herself into her husband’s arms.
Ed gently patted his wife’s back to soothe her, while keeping watch on the house’s changes—he hadn’t forgotten they were still in Bathsheba’s territory!
But something strange happened.
All the supernatural phenomena vanished—the house fell silent, deathly silent!
As if… Bathsheba had left.
But that was impossible—such a twisted monster never released its target. Wait—her abnormal emotions and behavior just now…
And his wife’s terrified state…
In that moment, Ed felt a deep chill envelop his body.
Moments later.
Luo Lin, barely composed, looked at Ed: “Bathsheba is gone—not just her, all the other spirits in the house are gone. They’ve all gone over there.”
Luo Lin pointed her finger toward the location where Jack and the others performed the summoning ritual.
Ed took a deep breath and said, “You, the Perens, stay here—no, leave immediately, return to the city. I’ll drive to that direction and investigate.”
Ed’s plan was cautious: Luo Lin was unstable, the Perens were terrified, only he remained clear-headed and combat-ready.
Naturally, he must investigate.
As for not investigating?
Impossible.
Bathsheba’s behavior was clearly abnormal; if ignored, it might trigger greater catastrophe, claim more lives. He accepted this case—he must do his utmost. That’s basic professional ethics.
Moreover, he had already reported to the church; they agreed to respond and dispatched nearby priests for support.
So he still had some confidence.
But unexpectedly,
“No!”
Luo Lin gripped Ed’s arm tightly: “I’m coming with you.”
It’s not England, it’s not England, it’s fine, it’s fine…
Luo Lin repeated this mental reassurance to calm herself.
Seeing Luo Lin’s determined gaze, Ed could only agree: “Alright. Roger, you and your family leave immediately—don’t return until church personnel arrive. Also, call the police. If the Bureau can be drawn in to handle it, that might be a good solution.”
Then Ed and his wife got in the car and sped toward the direction Luo Lin indicated.
Left behind, the Perens stood bewildered; though they didn’t understand what Ed meant by “Bureau,” Roger chose to obey the expert—he called the police and quickly led his family away.
…
In the sky.
Louis, standing with arms crossed, his form always concealed, observed the scene below.
Louis felt no emotion at all as these people were slaughtered by demons—what they got was what they deserved; who says accomplices aren’t guilty?
Let them all die.
Oh no—Shi Misi can’t die; he’s my man.
Fortunately, Shi Misi was clever—or lucky enough—because he was targeted by his supervisor, he led his team to a remote corner of the base, guarding one of the sacrifice storage warehouses.
Now, with his men hiding inside the building and using firepower along with special items like crosses they carried, they could still hold their ground.
As for the others, without exception, all were being slaughtered one-sidedly, except for a few specialized squads with unique methods.
“So, W Company really is one of the weaker of these mysterious organizations.”
Louis made this judgment.
Louis had pondered this guess for a long time, and it made perfect sense: mystery thrives on longevity—the older the tradition, the better it survives—and W Company’s backers were all new money.
What foundation could they possibly have?
No wonder Shi Misi’s specialized combat squads performed so poorly.
Take the Yaoguan Bureau and the Church: one is a national, even international, comprehensive institution; the other is the world’s largest religion, which has influenced and even controlled the Western world for over a thousand years.
Which one is easy to provoke?
They must have far more powerful methods they haven’t even used yet.
This was a perfect opportunity to test them: the location was outside a small city, the opponent a demon avatar nearing the level of a Great Demon—ideal for these two institutions to show off.
Standing in the sky, Louis narrowed his eyes.
How the two institutions handled this demon, whose strength matched their own, would determine Louis’s future actions and attitude.
But he couldn’t allow too much damage—especially since the actors on stage hadn’t all arrived yet.
Louis glanced at a certain green fly about to fly out of the base, waved his hand lightly, and his potent Yin Spirit power formed a barrier that blocked it, then used illusions to guide it back.
He looked down.
His powerful Yin Spirit power spread like a net, covering the ground and forming a bowl-shaped dome, layered with illusions on top.
This would prevent the stage from collapsing before all the actors arrived.
Just as Louis anticipated the upcoming performance, his expression suddenly changed—he turned toward a vehicle speeding toward him from afar.
