Chapter 56: Despair: A Wretched Person Must Have Wretched Parents

~6 min read 1,074 words

On the other side.

David, upon receiving the call, did not hesitate or wonder if it was a misdial—he immediately dialed the police.

“Uncle David, what’s wrong?”

“Angela and the others are in trouble. They said they were going to play at a place called Eden Lake, and just now they suddenly called to ask us to call the police…”

As he spoke, David split his attention: he turned the wheel toward the Eden Lake area while calling Angela again.

But the dial tone echoing in his ear only sank his heart further.

He pressed the accelerator to the floor.

He couldn’t just wait for the police to find them—they were close to Eden Lake and could get there faster than the cops; maybe they could still save his sister.

But at that moment, Louis frowned.

Eden… Lake?

A deeply oppressive film surfaced in his memory—its group of teenagers could be called the very epitome of evil.

Of course, what impressed him most was their equally evil, trash parents: blindly defending their children, and ultimately choosing to drown the female protagonist in a bathtub to vent their rage and conceal the truth.

Sometimes, being young doesn’t mean you can’t do evil—in fact, young people sometimes commit evils more extreme and terrifying than adults.

For instance, he had heard of cases like the Missing Couple and the Three Demons—worse than those committed by adults…

So, had Angela been dragged into this?

Then it was bad.

David drove faster and faster, now regretting he’d brought Louis along when he went to pick up Yulencar—he was still just a child.

But it was too late to say anything now. On the bright side, Louis was a gangster’s heir…

In the small town.

A group of people were preparing for a party.

Suddenly, two filthy women, covered in scratches from branches, burst out of the bushes, staring at the house and the people before them as if reborn.

In that moment, they felt as if they had returned to civilization.

Finally—finally, they were saved!

Tears slid from their eyes, carving tracks through the dirt on their faces.

They stumbled forward, “Help! Save us!”

Several people rushed over to support them, carrying them inside.

Someone searched for a first-aid kit, others asked anxiously what had happened, and someone else wondered if they should call the police—all these townspeople showed basic kindness.

Angela wiped her tears, about to speak.

But Zhen Ni subtly tugged her sleeve.

Following her gaze, Angela saw two dog bowls on the floor—one with a dog eating from it, the other labeled with a name: Bonnie.

!!!

Angela couldn’t describe the feeling—she felt her heart choke in that instant.

Her eyes darted wildly, and soon she spotted a photo on the wall: it was the evil teen, Brett.

This was that man’s house!

What the hell was this?

After barely escaping, she’d thought she’d found salvation—so why, why was it like this?

Angela began trembling all over.

Luckily, Zhen Ni quickly pressed her down, “Sorry, we’re feeling nauseous—may we use the bathroom?”

She dragged Angela swiftly into the bathroom and locked the door behind them.

“What do we do? What do we do?”

“Last chance.”

The two women found a razor, gripped it tightly, and stared at the door with desperate, resolute eyes.

At that moment.

A voice came.

“Braet? What’s going on?”

“Dad! Dad! There’s… there’s a ghost!”

“We, we were just playing with them today… They killed Bonnie, I got angry and acted impulsively… There are two women—they killed Claire and ran away…”

“We tied up the two men to avenge Claire…”

“Then, I, we, dug up a golden arm, and then, then…”

Braet’s voice sounded weak, pitiful, helpless—and the story subtly shifted in his telling, his companions mumbling in agreement.

The truth had transformed from their initial provocation into mere childish play.

Meanwhile, in his version, their own companions had been killed by Angela and Zhen Ni.

It seemed that, aside from being a bit mischievous, everything was the fault of these adult women.

After a burst of commotion.

“Those two women?!”

Bang bang bang!!

The bathroom door began violently shaking.

“Come out! Get out here!”

“She’s still a child! How could you do this to her! Waaah…”

“Bastards, I’ll kill you!”

“Wait, wait, let’s call the police—let them handle it.”

“Shut up! They killed someone from our town—they must die. I don’t trust those cops. Do you?”

“….”

Angela and Zhen Ni trembled violently, gripping their razor blades tighter.

Bang!

The bathroom door was violently smashed open.

“We didn’t kill anyone—he’s lying! They took our people! They…” Angela tried to explain.

But.

“Why are you targeting a child?! She’s still a child!”

A woman lunged forward, but was held back, her face wild with rage.

“Lying outsiders—we tried to help you.”

“My Braet never lies! You’d even attack a child? Bastards!”

“Fill the bathtub.”

Braet’s father’s eyes burned with cruelty; the dozen or so townspeople watched coldly, even stepping forward to help restrain the two women.

Zhen Ni and Angela shook their heads desperately, waving the razor blades.

“No no no no no…”

Wang wang wang wang!!

Sudden, frantic barking erupted.

A golden figure shot out like lightning, launching into savage bites and chaotic charges.

Its bite force was terrifying, its ferocity extreme, and its movements impossibly swift—the dozen men couldn’t catch it, instead being thrown into chaos throughout the house.

At that moment, Braet’s other guard dog tried to attack—but the next instant.

A paw slammed onto its neck, pinning it down, then sharp fangs pierced its throat in a swift thrust; after a violent shake of its head, blood sprayed, the neck severed halfway, head barely attached.

Gold stood atop the dead dog, dripping blood, staring at them like a monstrous beast.

The women screamed; the men grabbed nearby objects to fight back.

“Don’t be afraid—it’s just a dog, everyone—”

Bang!

A gunshot cut him off.

Louis stood at the doorway, smiling cheerfully, the pistol in his hand still swaying, its muzzle unaimed at anyone in particular.

“Kid, put the gun down—you don’t understand the situation. We’re dealing with two vicious women—they…”

“Louis?!”

Angela, cowering in the bathroom, cried out in relief.

The men froze in shock.

Louis waved his hand—seeing Angela was dirty and scratched but alive, he knew he’d arrived just in time.

But where was Olivier?

Could it be…

Louis’s eyes turned cold.
