Chapter 1043: Buying Your Company
Li Xiao's expression suddenly became somewhat subtle as he looked at Cai Xiaotang.
Cai Xiaotang also looked at him in confusion and asked offhandedly, "What is it? Tell me."
Li Xiao did not speak, however; he paused for two seconds before saying:
"You have to promise first that you won't get angry after I tell you..."
"Huh?"
Upon hearing this, Cai Xiaotang became even more confused, and her mind instantly began to race.
Had this guy done something behind her back?
Her curiosity was piqued in an instant. Thinking of how the person before her hadn't been in a good mood these past few days, and knowing he wouldn't truly do anything excessive, Cai Xiaotang "generously" nodded and said, "Mm, go ahead, I promise I won't get angry."
Li Xiao raised an eyebrow slightly, clearly not having much confidence in her promise. He paused for two seconds before continuing: "Actually, it's not a big deal, it's just... I... I had someone buy your company a while ago. The paperwork was finished over the last two days..."
"What!!!"
Before Li Xiao could finish, Cai Xiaotang was so shocked that her mouth felt like it could fit an egg.
Had she heard him right?
The company?
Bought it?
Why on earth would he buy her company?
"Cough... you said you wouldn't get angry." Li Xiao gave a light cough, reminding her of what she had just promised, though the corners of his lips couldn't help but curl into a faint smile.
"When did you do it?"
Cai Xiaotang finally came back to her senses and continued to ask, looking shocked.
Li Xiao replied, "It's been a while. It started back when we were still abroad; I had already been in contact with your boss. However, to consider your feelings, I didn't intend to make this public. On the surface, he will still be the boss, and as for you..."
Li Xiao paused for a moment and looked at Cai Xiaotang.
"I don't want to interfere with your work. I just saw how happy you were playing back then, and I wanted to be able to take you out traveling whenever I had time in the future, so I had someone handle this. If you want to go to work, you can keep going, and your identity won't be exposed. If you don't want to go, just have your boss explain to the others that you're on a business trip. Isn't that better?"
He had considered almost every possibility for Cai Xiaotang.
Cai Xiaotang paused slightly and said nothing.
Buying a company was such a grand gesture that she found it hard to accept for a moment.
As she thought this, her fingertips were gently squeezed by someone.
Li Xiao's voice followed, sounding once again.
"I've finally managed to have some free time, with nothing left to worry about. Why don't you just treat it as starting a vacation now and spend more time with me?"
His tone was unexpectedly tinged with a rare hint of vulnerability, which made Cai Xiaotang's heart tremble.
She had indeed seen the state Li Xiao had been in during this time.
Watching him try so hard to hide all his emotions in front of her, she felt deeply pained for him.
Sighing helplessly in her heart, Cai Xiaotang nodded gently.
"Okay."
She agreed.
"Then how about we go out to clear our heads in a while? Is there anywhere you want to go?"
Li Xiao guessed that she likely wouldn't refuse and continued to ask.
"Anything is fine, I'll listen to you."
Cai Xiaotang started the car and drove toward the supermarket, chatting idly with Li Xiao about places they could go. Her originally heavy mood relaxed quite a bit.
Everything was in the past now, right?
Those who had passed away were laid to rest.
For those who were alive, life had to keep moving forward.
At the very least, she wouldn't have to worry about Li Xiao constantly getting hurt anymore.
One month later—on a sunny beach, Cai Xiaotang lay on a lounge chair, enjoying a wonderful sunbath, waiting thirstily for Li Xiao, who had gone to buy juice.
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a tall, burly foreign man walking toward her carrying two cups of juice.
"Hi, miss, may I buy you a drink?"
The man asked in English and very gentlemanly placed the juice in his hand on the table beside Cai Xiaotang.
Cai Xiaotang paused upon hearing this, hurriedly sat up, and shook her head, just about to refuse— "Sorry, she is my wife."
A voice with a slight chill suddenly cut in.
Another cup of juice was also placed on the table, directly pushing aside the one the man had just put there, landing in its original spot.
Cai Xiaotang's ears burned, and then she heard the jealous tone of a certain someone, barely managing to hold back a laugh.
The man was also stunned, hurriedly saying "Sorry" repeatedly before turning to leave.
"Wait a moment."
Li Xiao suddenly called the man back in English, his gaze sweeping across the table as he spat out a few words.
"Your juice."
The other party was stunned again, hurriedly picked up the cup, said sorry once more, and then turned and left, looking somewhat flustered.
Li Xiao stared at the man's back for a few seconds before finally turning around, intending to sit down.
As soon as he turned, he froze for a moment, his gaze sweeping over Cai Xiaotang, and his eyes darkened abruptly.
She was wearing a white swimsuit today; the top was a bandeau style, revealing a slender waist that could barely be grasped in the middle, and below it was a small white skirt that barely covered her thighs.
From where Li Xiao was standing, he could just happen to see her chest...
How did he not notice her swimsuit was so sexy when they left today?
Li Xiao muttered to himself in a low voice, his eyes darkening as he picked up the bath towel Cai Xiaotang had tossed aside and covered her chest with it.
Cai Xiaotang raised an eyebrow and immediately asked with a grin, "What?
Are you jealous?"
"No."
Li Xiao answered quickly.
After saying that, he didn't forget to stubbornly explain, "How little confidence would I have in myself to be jealous of something like that?"
As he spoke, he picked up the fruit juice he had brought over earlier and handed it to Cai Xiaotang.
"Thank you."
Cai Xiaotang took it happily, and seeing the expression on his face that was clearly still a bit displeased, she felt sweet inside.
For the past month, he and Li Xiao had been wandering around in warm places, and neither of them had brought up what happened before again.
They only checked in with the Hospital periodically to ask about Laoqi's condition.
It's just that...
He still hadn't woken up.
Whenever Cai Xiaotang thought about this, she felt a bit stifled.
Immediately after, she heard Li Xiao suddenly ask, "Where is your ring?"
"Hmm?"
She snapped back to reality and instinctively looked at her ring finger.
She then explained casually, "Oh, I was afraid I might accidentally lose it, so I didn't wear it."
Once, while out shopping, she had suddenly discovered the ring was missing and searched for it anxiously for a long time, but couldn't find it no matter what.
She had thought it was truly lost and felt dejected for a long time, until she returned to the hotel that evening and discovered she had accidentally left it by the sink and forgotten to take it with her—it had been a false alarm.
Since then, whenever she went to crowded places, she would be extra careful and simply stopped wearing it out.
Just as she was thinking this, she heard Li Xiao speak up again gloomily, "No ring, no wonder there are people so blind as to come up and hit on you..."
