Chapter 278: Something Happened, Li Beijue

~7 min read 1,267 words

Jiang Baobao was focused on searching for pretty conchs and seashells on the beach, not noticing at all that someone behind her had been staring at her for a long time.

As for Li Beijue, his intentions were clearly not on the beachcombing.

He sat down on the sand unhurriedly, glancing at the sand beside him from time to time, yet his gaze remained fixed on Jiang Baobao's direction.

Not long after, he saw her excitedly drop her shovel, as if she had dug up something good.

The next second, Jiang Baobao's excited voice indeed reached him.

"Li Beijue, look at what I dug up!"

As she spoke, Jiang Baobao stood up and shook the giant conch in her hand toward Li Beijue.

"It looks quite impressive." Li Beijue curled his lips slightly in praise, stood up, and walked toward Jiang Baobao, only then seeing clearly that what she was holding was a huge white conch.

"They will definitely like it. What did you dig up?"

Jiang Baobao looked at Li Beijue with a hint of smugness and stood on tiptoe to look toward the direction he had come from, only to see that his small bucket was still completely empty.

"So you've been slacking off this whole time! I'm the only one who was searching seriously! Then you've definitely lost this time!"

Jiang Baobao was in a good mood and teased Li Beijue amusedly. She immediately put the big conch back into her bucket and focused on squatting down again to look for her next target.

A hint of a smile flashed in Li Beijue's eyes. He squatted down beside Jiang Baobao unhurriedly and teased her on purpose: "I don't think I can find a conch bigger than that one. How about if you find some pretty seashells, you share some with me? I can trade them for conditions..."

"What kind of conditions? Let's hear them. These seashells of mine can't be bought with money."

Jiang Baobao replied amusedly, her hands not stopping as she dug out another small seashell.

Immediately after, she heard Li Beijue ask in a low voice: "If not money, then what do you want?"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Baobao paused for a moment, then turned to look at Li Beijue, lost in thought.

"If not money..."

She muttered softly, pondered for two seconds, and then threw the question back at him: "Then besides money, what else do you have that you could trade for my seashells?"

Li Beijue's gaze flickered for an instant; a sentence was on the tip of his tongue, but he subconsciously swallowed it back.

Besides money, of course he could give her many more things.

Even if it meant... trading himself, that wouldn't be impossible.

Li Beijue opened his mouth but made no sound.

"Why did you stop talking?"

Jiang Baobao thought Li Beijue had been stumped by her, and she couldn't help but show a smug little expression on her face, intentionally "educating" him: "There are no shortcuts to making those little ones happy. Instead of having designs on my seashells, you'd better hurry up and dig!"

After finishing, Jiang Baobao shook the small shovel in her hand at Li Beijue, picked up her small bucket, stood up, and moved to a new, flat stretch of beach.

Li Beijue shook his head inwardly with amusement, his eyes subconsciously following Jiang Baobao's movements.

It wasn't the seashells he had designs on, but rather...

Li Beijue gave Jiang Baobao a deep look before returning to the spot he had just left, patiently searching the sand.

Half an hour later—

Both of their small buckets were half full.

The afternoon sun was somewhat scorching. Li Beijue looked up and reminded her considerately: "This should be about enough. Let's take a break first; the weather is too hot right now, I'm afraid you'll get heatstroke."

"Okay!" Hearing this, Jiang Baobao hurriedly looked up at the sky, then stood up, satisfied with her spoils.

She then found a shady spot under a large tree and sat down casually.

There was no one else around, only the sound of seagulls occasionally flying by and the faint sea breeze blowing past.

Jiang Baobao closed her eyes and carefully felt her surroundings, feeling a sense of relaxation in both body and mind like never before.

"Do you feel now that coming out with me was the right choice?"

Li Beijue's voice suddenly sounded by her ear.

Jiang Baobao nodded in agreement at once, then couldn't help but say with some regret: "This is indeed a great place to relax. If only those three little ones were here too..."

She sighed slightly. Just as she finished speaking, she saw Li Beijue shake his head and say unhurriedly: "If they were here, I'm afraid you wouldn't be as quiet as you are now."

"I suppose you're right about that..."

Jiang Baobao nodded thoughtfully. After saying this, she suddenly had a rare urge to play a prank and deliberately pointed at Li Beijue: "So you think the three of them are too noisy? Tsk tsk tsk... I'll remember that. Watch out, or I'll go back and tell on you!"

Li Beijue was taken aback by this, then raised his eyebrows noncommittally, his expression seemingly saying, tell on me all you want.

Seeing his expression, Jiang Baobao couldn't help but laugh out loud. Looking at Li Beijue before her, her mood also became somewhat subtle.

It had only been one night, yet the relationship between the two of them seemed to have truly eased a lot...

To think they could chat and joke around so casually?

Before this, she wouldn't have even dared to imagine it...

Jiang Baobao pondered to herself and was just about to ask when they would be heading back tomorrow, but before she could speak, she felt the sky above her head suddenly darken!

Both of them under the tree were slightly startled and looked up subconsciously, only to see that the sun above had been completely blocked by thick, dark clouds at some point, leaving not a sliver of light!

"The weather is turning?"

Jiang Baobao's expression changed, and she stood up abruptly.

Li Beijue was also somewhat surprised; he subconsciously grabbed Jiang Baobao's wrist, his two sword-like eyebrows knitting tightly together.

The next second, a violent wind suddenly whipped up on the small Island!

Caught off guard, Jiang Baobao was blown off balance. She immediately grabbed the tree trunk beside her with quick movements, a flash of slight panic in her eyes.

"Li Beijue? Is it going to rain? Should we hurry back?"

Jiang Baobao asked while anxiously scanning the sky above.

Li Beijue, however, shook his head, his expression also somewhat grave.

"If it's going to rain, it would be too dangerous for us to head back now..."

As if to confirm Li Beijue's words, no sooner had he finished speaking than the wind on the Island became even more manic!

The previously calm and waveless sea was also churned up into layers of waves.

The dark seawater was not at all as calm as before; instead, it appeared somewhat terrifying, as if in the next second it would swallow everything that dared to remain on the sea surface into the depths of the ocean!

It was the first time Jiang Baobao had seen such a scene; she took a deep breath, and just as she wanted to adjust her emotions, the next second she suddenly saw that the speedboat originally docked at the shore had already been pushed out toward the sea surface by the waves!

"Li Beijue! Our boat!"
