Chapter 672: He Will Never Come Back Again

~7 min read 1,274 words

"Tiantian!!!"

Jiang Baobao did not expect her to act so decisively; she was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly stood up and ran out after her.

But the little girl was running truly too fast.

She was like a little cannonball; in just a few seconds, she had already dashed to the door, pulled it open, and darted out!

"Tiantian! Wait a moment!"

Jiang Baobao didn't even have time to change her shoes, following closely behind her.

Yet, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a figure overtake her.

"Tiantian!!!"

Relying on his height advantage, Li Beijue caught up to Tiantian, who was about to run onto the main road, in two strides.

"Daddy! I want to find Brother Shitou! I want to find Brother Shitou!"

Tiantian struggled incessantly, her little face already covered in tears like rain on pear blossoms.

"Tiantian... your Brother Shitou, he..."

Jiang Baobao wanted to comfort the little girl, but felt that this matter was too cruel for her current age.

She also hadn't expected that Tiantian would have such deep feelings for Xiaoshi.

What exactly happened during the time she was taken away to make her rely on that little boy so much?

Jiang Baobao's gaze flickered for an instant, and seeing her still struggling, she hurriedly took her from Li Beijue's arms and held her in her own.

"Tiantian, listen to Mommy, okay?"

Jiang Baobao kissed the little girl's face, her heart aching.

The usually well-behaved Tiantian was throwing a rare tantrum, sobbing breathlessly as she begged Jiang Baobao: "Mommy, can you take me to the seaside? I... I want to go... go find Brother Shitou..."

"Baby..."

Jiang Baobao rarely saw her cry like this and hurriedly promised: "Okay, Mommy will take you, I'll take you in a little while, okay?"

"Go now... right now..."

Tiantian's eyes were already red from crying, her little hands clutching Jiang Baobao's clothes tightly as she looked toward the car not far away.

"Tiantian? Why are you all standing here?"

Li Xiao's voice suddenly came, interrupting Jiang Baobao's train of thought.

She turned her head and explained with a complex expression: "Tiantian knows about that child..."

Li Xiao paused upon hearing this; he hadn't expected her to find out so quickly, and his expression was also somewhat complex for a moment.

Immediately after, she heard Jiang Baobao ask: "Li Xiao, could you trouble your men to search by the seaside? Just in case..."

Jiang Baobao didn't finish her sentence, looking at Li Xiao inquiringly.

Li Xiao sighed: "I have been having people search for the past two days, but..."

He glanced at Tiantian, whose eyes were red from crying, and did not continue.

Jiang Baobao understood his meaning instantly.

The survival rate for falling into the sea was already very low... and Li Xiao had already had people searching for two days.

Her mood was heavy, but thinking of the little one in her arms, she still said: "Tiantian wants to go to the seaside to take a look; we will take her there..."

"Alright, I have some things to attend to; I will come find you all in a while."

Li Xiao responded, said a few more words, and then got into his car and left.

Jiang Baobao and Li Beijue also took Tiantian into the car and drove toward the seaside.

Half an hour later—the group arrived at the seaside.

There happened to be a few of Li Xiao's men searching on the shore; seeing Li Beijue arrive, they couldn't help but be surprised.

"How is it? Did you find anything?"

Li Beijue took one of them further away and asked in a low voice.

The other party replied immediately: "We just salvaged the body of the venomous snake and were preparing to report to Asura, but that child... we have yet to find any trace of him."

Li Beijue frowned sharply, a sense of foreboding rising in his heart.

Not finding him was not entirely a good thing.

If the child were lucky enough, perhaps he had been saved by someone.

The greater possibility was that he had already sunk to the bottom of the sea, and been... by the schools of fish.

"Daddy! Did you find Brother Shitou?"

Tiantian ran over from a distance, asking with an expectant face.

"Not yet."

Li Beijue shook his head helplessly, and just as he finished speaking, he saw the little one pout in instant disappointment.

"How could you not find him... Brother Shitou told me he knew how to swim..."

The little girl muttered to herself, and as she spoke, she suddenly turned and ran toward the further reaches of the beach.

"Tiantian! Where are you going?"

Jiang Baobao and Li Beijue hurriedly followed.

Tiantian ran fast across the sand, her eyes sweeping over the massive reefs, and she couldn't help but let her tears fall again.

Brother Shitou had promised her before that he would play hide-and-seek with her in the future!

Had he hidden himself?

Maybe he was behind one of these big rocks!

Thinking this, Tiantian quickly circled behind a large reef, but found nothing at all.

She did not give up, searching several rocks in a row, but failing to find the person she wanted to see, she finally stood at the seaside in disappointment, staring blankly at the boundless sea.

"Tiantian..."

Jiang Baobao stood beside the little one, holding her small hand with a heart full of pain.

"Mommy... is Brother Shitou really not coming back?"

Tiantian suddenly asked in a low voice, her tone filled with a crying sound she was trying her best to hold back.

Jiang Baobao did not answer, only tightened her grip on her hand even more.

"Brother Shitou!"

Tiantian suddenly shouted toward the calm sea, her young and clear voice echoing by the seaside, carrying an inseparable sadness.

"Brother Shitou, where are you! Didn't you say you would be my brother!"

The little girl vented her sadness, reached out to wipe away her tears, but new tears rolled down again.

Neither Jiang Baobao nor Li Beijue spoke, just accompanying her quietly on the side.

A wave rolled in from the distance, hitting the beach a few steps away, leaving behind a few seashells and other items washed up from the sea.

Tiantian had been staring blankly at the sea, but the next second, her eyes suddenly lit up, and she shook off Jiang Baobao's hand and ran out!

"Mommy! This is Brother Shitou's shoe!"

Tiantian squatted on the beach, holding in her hand the shoe that had just been washed up by the waves.

It was a sneaker that one could tell at a glance belonged to a child.

Having been soaked in seawater for two days, it had already lost some of its shape.

Yet Tiantian recognized it at a single glance.

She looked blankly at the shoe in her hand, then looked at the sea before her, and suddenly pressed her lips tight.

"Waaah... Brother Shitou..."

Tiantian sat on the beach, just as she had when she first learned the news in the villa, and began to cry to her heart's content.

It was as if she had suddenly understood what it meant that "Brother Shitou will never come back."

Jiang Baobao and Li Beijue stood behind the little one, neither of them speaking to disturb her, letting her release her emotions.

"Brother Shitou..."

Tiantian murmured in a low voice, thinking of the time the two of them had spent together, her tears like a floodgate that had been opened.

Brother Shitou will never come back again...

And he can no longer be her brother...
