Chapter 88: Li Beijue, I Will Never Compromise
Cai Xiaotang dropped a sentence, turned around, and went upstairs in a clean and decisive manner.
Madam Mu immediately said to Father Mu, "Old man, look at her..."
"That's enough!" Father Mu interrupted, watching Cai Xiaotang's retreating back as she went upstairs with a helpless expression.
"Let her do as she pleases. I'll have someone deposit some more money into her bank card in a while, so she doesn't suffer while out on her own..."
Upstairs—
Cai Xiaotang went straight to the room at the end of the hallway.
She gently turned the doorknob, glanced at the familiar decor inside, and her eyes couldn't help but grow warm.
Cai Xiaotang took a deep breath and adjusted her emotions.
Only then did she walk in with light footsteps, as if afraid of disturbing everything here.
She sat before the desk, her gaze slowly sweeping over everything in the room.
The pale purple curtains shimmered in the sunlight, and on the bed lay the beige bedsheets her mother had once loved most.
On the bookshelf in the corner were classic works from countries all over the world.
Everything here remained unchanged; it was clear that someone came to clean it often.
Cai Xiaotang reached out to take the photo frame placed on the desk, her fingers lightly touching the gentle smile on the face of the person in the photo.
"Mom, I've come to see you..."
"I'm sorry, it's been so long since I last came. You must have missed me very much..."
She said in a low voice, unable to help feeling a bit sorrowful inside.
After a long silence, she placed the photo squarely in front of her.
"Mom, I've been doing very well these years, you don't need to worry about me. I'll come to see you whenever I have time in the future, and I won't let you wait for me this long again..."
Cai Xiaotang spoke softly to the person in the photo, recounting the things that had happened to her over the past few years, and her mood gradually calmed down a lot.
Every time she came here, she felt incomparably at peace.
Cai Xiaotang stayed in the room alone for a long time, and before leaving, she tidied it up carefully once more before intending to depart.
Standing at the doorway, however, she felt some reluctance.
She stared at the photo frame on the desk for a long time, finally closed the door gently, but a trace of gloom couldn't help but flash across her eyes.
If it weren't for the fact that her mother's room from when she was alive was still preserved here, she wouldn't want to come back at all!
So what if the Mu Family is one of the Four Great Families in A City!
She, Cai Xiaotang, is just Cai Xiaotang!
She has no interest in being some young lady of the Mu Family!
Cai Xiaotang cast a cold glance toward the living room downstairs and walked down the stairs.
Father Mu was still waiting downstairs, and seeing this, he hurriedly said with a smile, "Xiao Tang, why don't you stay for dinner..."
"No need, I still have things to do." Cai Xiaotang didn't stop her feet, and as she spoke, she turned and walked toward the direction of the main entrance.
Father Mu watched her leave with a dejected look and didn't say anything more.
Cai Xiaotang, however, inexplicably felt a bit pent-up.
Sitting in the car on the way back alone, no matter how she thought about it, she felt frustrated.
Seriously!
Every time she went back and saw them, she felt annoyed!
Yet everything of her mother's was still left there, and she couldn't bear to destroy it...
Cai Xiaotang felt troubled, got out of the car near the villa, and simply ran into a convenience store to buy a bag of beer.
Only then did she return, satisfied.
Inside the villa—
Jiang Baobao was not in the mood to play with the two little ones today either; after dinner, she coaxed the two little ones to return to their respective rooms.
Not long after, she heard a commotion coming from the living room.
She was slightly stunned and glanced at the doorway.
Was it Xiao Tang who had returned?
Jiang Baobao hesitated for two seconds, feeling conflicted about whether to talk to her about Yanbao.
Before long, she heard a burst of hurried footsteps walking toward her bedroom door.
The door was pushed open with a bang.
Jiang Baobao watched as a bag landed on her bed in a graceful parabolic arc.
Immediately after, several cans of beer rolled out.
"Xiao Tang, what's going on with you?" Jiang Baobao was a bit puzzled.
Cai Xiaotang waved her hand, closed the door casually, opened a can of beer without hesitation, and downed it directly.
"Xiao Tang!"
Jiang Baobao was startled by her intensity in drinking and hurriedly stepped forward, wanting to stop her.
But Cai Xiaotang had already quickly finished half of it.
"I'm fine..." She waved her hand and managed a forced smile at Jiang Baobao: "I'm just in a bad mood and want to drink. Haven't we not had a good, hearty drink in a long time?"
As she spoke, she opened a can and handed it to Jiang Baobao's side.
Jiang Baobao was taken aback; she was still feeling incredibly depressed because of what happened this afternoon, so she took it and also downed half of it in one breath.
"Good! Drinking should be like this to be satisfying!"
The smile on Cai Xiaotang's face grew a bit more, and she pulled Jiang Baobao to sit down.
She suddenly remembered the phone call she had made to her this afternoon.
"By the way, what did you want to see me about this afternoon? Did you run into some trouble?" Cai Xiaotang asked casually.
Jiang Baobao was silent for two seconds, then suddenly dismissed the thought of complaining.
Xiao Tang usually wouldn't drink like this unless she had encountered something unhappy.
Since she didn't want to talk about it, she wouldn't ask either.
But she couldn't add to her worries either.
Jiang Baobao thought to herself and shook her head gently: "It's nothing, I was just in a bad mood earlier, but I'm fine now. Come on! Let's drink!"
She clinked her beer can against the one in Cai Xiaotang's hand and tilted her head back to finish the remaining beer in one gulp.
Cai Xiaotang's eyes flickered for a moment, and she also felt that the person in front of her didn't seem quite right.
Yet, with the same tacit understanding, she didn't ask any more questions.
Neither of them mentioned their own troubles, just chatting casually.
Not long after, all the beer they had bought was finished completely.
Jiang Baobao's expression was still fairly clear.
Cai Xiaotang was indeed a bit drunk, muttering and whispering curses under her breath.
Jiang Baobao found it amusing, helped her wash up, and sent her back to the bedroom before she could finally rest herself.
She lay on the bed, but didn't feel the slightest bit sleepy; her mind was filled with Yanbao and Li Beijue.
That little guy should be asleep by now...
She wondered if Li Beijue would blame him after she left...
Jiang Baobao looked out the window with deep eyes, feeling as if a heavy stone was pressing down on her heart.
It wasn't until dawn that she finally fell into a deep sleep.
She didn't know how long she had slept when she suddenly heard her phone ringing incessantly.
She opened her eyes abruptly and answered the call without even looking at it.
Before she could even speak, she heard the person on the other end say: "Ms. Jiang, I am President Li's assistant. President Li asked me to convey to you that you do not need to pay the thirty billion in breach of contract damages, but you must leave the country within three days. If you cannot comply, we will take forceful measures."
"What did you say?"
Jiang Baobao's brain was still a bit dazed, and it was throbbing with pain from the alcohol.
The person on the other end of the phone hung up directly and decisively.
She held her phone, sitting blankly on the bed, wondering if she had misheard something just now.
Li Beijue wanted to use forceful measures to drive her out of the country?
Did he really have to be so ruthless?
Didn't she say she would scrape together the money to pay the breach of contract damages?
Jiang Baobao came back to her senses, a lump of frustration stuck in her chest, and she jumped off the bed instantly.
She checked the time and realized it was already the afternoon.
Had she actually slept for an entire day?
No, she had to go pick up Mobai and Tiantian first, then go find that guy to confront him!
She would absolutely not compromise!
