Chapter 1: Who Am I? Where Am I?

~4 min read 798 words

Pain—intense, searing pain—made Wang Kai snap open his eyes. The surroundings before him were not his familiar dormitory, but an endless forest, where towering trees blocked the sunlight, casting the area into deep gloom.

Wang Kai lifted his head to examine the source of the agony. His body was gaunt and blackened, his right wing deformed, and a pitchfork stuck through his left shoulder—he looked like nothing but a malnourished, winged lizard.

Have I been reincarnated? Where am I? The question surged in Wang Kai’s mind. After about half an hour, his gradually clearing mind finally recalled the original owner’s memories.

The original owner was a young dragon named Sakavi Durax Hipporeksa. Dragon naming conventions place the father’s and mother’s names as surnames, with the individual’s own name last.

The original owner had been trapped in the dragon’s lair by a squad of boar-headed warriors while his mother was away. He’d been dragged, dazed and confused, in a cage across mountains and rivers, until his mother finally caught up with them near a small village.

During the ensuing battle, the five siblings slipped away. As for why they didn’t seek out their mother—it was because she had only come after them to recover her hard-won treasure, which had been stolen along with them. Their mother currently wouldn’t spare them a single glance.

Once safety was confirmed, the eldest sister, Domina Durax Hipporeksa, declared they should uphold the noble traditions of the chromatic dragons. After days of searching, they settled on a village near the forest, planning to launch a full-scale raid.

They grossly underestimated the farmers’ combat strength. A large group of boar-headed warriors, armed with farm tools, chased and beat the five young dragons mercilessly.

In desperation, Domina once again embodied the chromatic dragons’ noble tradition—she promptly abandoned the weakest of them, Sakavi. The poor original owner slipped on loose ground in his panic and tumbled over a cliff, meeting the Five-Headed Dragon Tiamat face-to-face.

With his current situation clarified, Sakavi, reborn, began to consider how to survive. First, he needed to fill his belly; then, he needed to understand his surroundings.

Fortunately, the cliff wasn’t high—only about ten meters—easily climbable. But he couldn’t be certain the top was safe; it was best to wait until nightfall.

Sakavi pulled out the pitchfork and temporarily stabilized his fractured wing with mud—its effectiveness was barely better than nothing. When darkness fully fell, Sakavi carefully climbed the cliff.

Using the original owner’s memories, Sakavi found the small river where they had hidden days earlier. He used the wound on his left shoulder to attract several fish, finally alleviating his hunger.

In truth, dragons possess extraordinary digestive capabilities—they can digest metal ores, grass, soil, and more. But compared to normal food, these substances provide only enough energy to sustain life. A young dragon lacks the ability to digest them properly.

Nutritional intake directly affects later development. In regions lacking magic, a dragon may never ascend to legendary status in its entire lifetime.

After eating his fill, Sakavi planned to exploit the dragon’s ability to remain submerged for extended periods and see clearly underwater, ambushing boar-headed fishermen.

At dawn, Sakavi slipped into the water. After five rounds of resurfacing to breathe, he finally spotted a boar-headed fisherman. To avoid alerting others, he followed the man for two full hours.

Finally, when the fisherman wasn’t looking, Sakavi burst up from beneath the reeds and spat a mouthful of acid straight into his face. The sudden attack threw the fisherman into panic. Sakavi seized the chance, biting down on the man’s calf and dragging him underwater.

When the fisherman’s struggles ceased, Sakavi dragged him to shore. Only then did he clearly see the man’s appearance—he stood over two meters tall, with no excess fat on his body.

Massive, curved tusks jutted stubbornly from his lower jaw. His arms were thicker than Sakavi’s own legs in his past life—impossible to associate with any pig from his former world.

In truth, boar-headed warriors could swim. But the acid in his face and the shock had sent his mind into chaos.

As the fisherman spat out water, Sakavi threatened: “If you don’t wash your eyes immediately, you’ll lose them. Answer my questions honestly, or you won’t keep them at all.”

The fisherman nodded angrily. From him, Sakavi learned this place was called Cassava Village; the nearby town was Great Axe Town; a goblin tribe dwelled in the nearby forest, numbering around three hundred adults. A bit farther away, wolf packs were occasionally sighted. Beyond that, he knew nothing else.

Seeing he could extract no more information, Sakavi bit through the fisherman’s spine while he was washing his eyes. As the fisherman stared in disbelief, Sakavi dragged him back into the water and swiftly vanished into the forest.
