Chapter 60: Evil Spirit Hound Cub, It Looks Really Ugly

~7 min read 1,322 words

"Awoo..."

A low growl of a beast drifted over from the grass not far away.

"My lord, my lord, there is something over there."

The drooping ears of the Hobgoblin Lin Mu twitched, and he spoke up in a hurried, flustered manner.

Tang Zheng lifted his head, looked toward the direction of the grass, stood up, and walked over.

He pushed the grass aside with his iron sword.

A small, pitch-black Evil Spirit Hound, trembling all over, lay on the ground with eyes full of terror. Feeling Tang Zheng’s gaze, it shook incessantly in fear.

This small Evil Spirit Hound was only about fifty centimeters in size; for a human, that wasn't exactly small, but compared to a normal Evil Spirit Hound over three meters long, it was clearly just a cub.

"My lord, so it’s a little Evil Spirit Hound."

"No wonder the cunning big Evil Spirit Hound didn't run away even after seeing my lord's formidable strength."

The Hobgoblin Lin Mu lost his flustered look in an instant and spoke with fawning obsequiousness.

Tang Zheng took a look at this little Evil Spirit Hound.

Its fur was pitch-black all over, and apart from a bone chain wrapped around its body, it was quite similar to the little black puppies from his previous life.

It was just that its appearance was truly a bit too ferocious, and with the small, protruding horns on its forehead, it looked a bit like a sheep from the front.

"It looks really ugly."

Tang Zheng withdrew his gaze after a glance, spoke indifferently, and turned to leave.

Rustle!

Having walked only a few steps, Tang Zheng heard a sound from the grass behind him; the little Evil Spirit Hound had actually crawled out of the grass.

Tang Zheng originally didn't intend to pay it any mind; a little Evil Spirit Hound with no threat and little experience meant nothing to him whether he killed it or not.

But he hadn't expected the creature to follow him.

Tang Zheng paused his steps, turned his head to the side, and looked expressionlessly at the little Evil Spirit Hound that was following him cautiously and trembling all over.

"What, want to avenge your parents?"

"Awoo..."

The little Evil Spirit Hound immediately flopped onto the ground, then flipped its body over to expose its belly, spreading its four limbs out while suspended in mid-air.

Seeing this action from the little Evil Spirit Hound, a look of surprise appeared on Tang Zheng's face. "What does this mean?"

"This means submission."

"This little Evil Spirit Hound wants to follow you, my lord!"

The Hobgoblin Lin Mu hurriedly explained, a flash of surprise crossing his eyes as he looked at the little Evil Spirit Hound.

He wasn't surprised by the little Evil Spirit Hound's behavior, but rather that he hadn't expected the creature to be so clever.

Hmph, what a discerning fellow.

My lord is a true powerhouse!

Hearing the Hobgoblin Lin Mu's explanation, Tang Zheng was slightly surprised. "Didn't I just kill its parents?"

As soon as these words were spoken.

The Hobgoblin Lin Mu was instead a bit confused, his tone puzzled: "Is that strange? Isn't it a matter of course to serve the strong?"

Tang Zheng looked at the Hobgoblin Lin Mu in silence for a moment.

He suddenly felt that he had overestimated the moral standards of the Hobgoblin species.

No wonder.

The Hobgoblin Lin Mu was increasingly looking like a sycophant.

As time passed, the bloody scent emitted by the two Evil Spirit Hound corpses spread to the surroundings, attracting numerous beasts that caught the smell.

However!

If it were the situation from a month ago, it probably wouldn't have taken long for numerous beasts to appear and eat the corpses clean.

But now!

The beasts that caught this bloody scent not only had no intention of heading over, but instead moved even further away, one by one, in fearful uncertainty.

For some time now, the thick, lingering scent of blood in the jungle had never dissipated; all the beasts knew that anyone who went over rashly would only become another corpse among many. However!

Rustle, rustle—

The sound of branches and leaves shaking and fallen leaves being crushed underfoot rang out.

Three figures cautiously poked their heads out from behind the bushes to look. Finding only the two Evil Spirit Hound corpses and no one else, they stepped out from the grass.

Of these three figures, one was short, while the other two were sturdier and much taller; these two figures were each carrying a large grass basket on their backs.

It was exactly those three from the Hobgoblin "Jike Tribe"!

The bloody scent in the air hadn't attracted the beasts of the forest, but had instead attracted the three of them.

After confirming there was no danger, Agu jumped out of the grass first. Looking at the two Evil Spirit Hound corpses, a look of shock appeared on his face, and then he seemed to think of something.

He hurriedly ran forward to examine the two Evil Spirit Hound corpses.

The two Hobgoblins following behind saw this scene and ran up in a panic, clearly worried about Agu's safety.

"What, what, Agu, did you find?" the stuttering Hobgoblin asked cautiously while observing the surrounding environment.

"In this area, only Ogres should be able to threaten Evil Spirit Hounds."

"But the wounds on these two Evil Spirit Hounds were not caused by Ogres, and the long chains on their bodies are gone too; these aren't things that the beasts and monsters in the forest like to eat."

By the time Agu said this, his tone was already filled with pleasant surprise. "It's that human; we finally found him."

The other Hobgoblin looked at the Evil Spirit Hound corpses, his eyes filled with dread and fear:

"Agu, do we really want to go find that human?"

"He even killed such powerful monsters as Evil Spirit Hounds; we are no match for him."

Agu stood up; although he was much younger, he was far more composed than the two Hobgoblins.

"We must find the eldest brother, even if it's just a corpse."

"The eldest brother is carrying the tribe's treasure."

Agu said earnestly.

Hearing the words "tribe's treasure," the other two fearful and terrified Hobgoblins finally calmed down.

"That human should have just left." Agu reached out to touch the blood on the ground that had already darkened, licked a bit, and spoke with bright eyes.

Gurgle~

Gurgle~

Suddenly, the rumbling sound of hungry stomachs came from the bellies of the other two Hobgoblins.

Agu was startled and turned to look at his two tribesmen, who were staring at the Evil Spirit Hound corpses and swallowing their saliva incessantly.

"Don't waste such precious food," Agu said after a moment of hesitation.

As soon as the words fell!

The two Hobgoblins immediately let out excited howls and began tearing into the flesh of the Evil Spirit Hounds.

Agu naturally joined in as well.

Just as he had said earlier, monsters like Evil Spirit Hounds were not something they could usually deal with or enjoy.

Even if they were lucky enough to see the bones of an Evil Spirit Hound, it would be in the caves of the Ogre lords.

The sound of raw, bloody gulping echoed in the forest.

Evening.

The visibility in the jungle was decreasing at a speed visible to the naked eye.

Tang Zheng stopped scouring the forest for prey and found a tree that was relatively tall, where he came to a halt.

"Experience Bar: 9382/9500"

He glanced at the attribute panel; after an afternoon of effort, his experience had risen by another small notch.

"Still 118 experience points away."

"If nothing goes wrong tomorrow, I should be able to level up."

Tang Zheng took a breath of the cool, earthy scent in the air, his mood becoming much more pleasant.
