Chapter 268: Training of new girl
The morning sun filtered through the crystal canopy, casting fractured beams across the forest floor. Sylvara rose early, her mind still humming with energy from the previous day’s training. Lira had promised that today, she would attempt something bigger—something that would test her control over air and earth, with a touch of Spirit to harmonize them.
Lira gathered the team in a small clearing. "Today," she began, "Sylvara will guide the forest itself through a coordinated exercise. You’ll see how elements respond when we let them work in concert under a focused mind."
Thalanir tilted his head, examining Sylvara. "This isn’t easy. Most adults take years to reach this level."
Syla swallowed, nodding firmly. "I’ll do my best."
"Good," Lira said, placing her hand lightly on Sylvara’s shoulder. "Begin by feeling the ground beneath you. Let the roots, moss, and soil respond first. Then call the wind to interact, guiding leaves, petals, and branches. And finally, weave in Spirit to harmonize it all. Remember, gentle intent—never force."
Syla crouched, palms hovering just above the mossy floor. At first, nothing happened. A few leaves trembled, and a root twitched, but the forest seemed hesitant, cautious.
Lira knelt beside her. "Focus on listening, not commanding. Imagine the forest as a partner, not an instrument."
Syla closed her eyes and breathed deeply. Slowly, the moss under her hands began to stir, curling and lifting in small waves. The trees responded as well—branches swaying slightly, the crystalline leaves refracting light in a subtle shimmer. A soft breeze formed, moving through the grove as if carried by invisible hands.
"Beautiful," Lira murmured, stepping back.
Encouraged, Sylvara allowed the energy to spread. The air currents wrapped around branches, lifting petals and guiding them into intricate spirals. The soil beneath her fingers shifted in rhythm, raising tiny humps of moss that rolled like gentle waves. Spirit energy pulsed faintly from her chest, sending warmth and coherence through the movements.
Renkai, shifting into fox form, darted around the clearing, testing the waves of air and root movements. "Look at her go! She’s... she’s controlling it all!"
Thalanir added, "Yes, but notice the subtle harmonics. That Spirit pulse stabilizes everything. Without it, the elements might act independently—chaotic, unstable."
Patricia and Maelin exchanged impressed glances. "It’s like the forest itself is dancing," Patricia said softly.
Suddenly, a small challenge arose. A branch, weighted with crystal leaves, began to tip dangerously over a low bush. Sylvara’s concentration faltered slightly, and the branch shuddered. But recalling Lira’s guidance, she allowed her Spirit to extend further, smoothing the motion. The branch slowly righted itself, settling into a perfect balance without harm to the plants below.
"Excellent control!" Lira said. "See? Trust your intent. Don’t force. Guide, harmonize."
Encouraged, Sylvara focused on expanding her influence. She raised her hands slightly, and a shallow dome of energy formed around the clearing. Leaves, petals, and moss moved in synchrony, forming delicate patterns—spirals, waves, and ripples that shimmered with faint golden light.
Fluffy padded into the dome, nudging a small flower with curiosity. The flower twirled gently around the little cat, leaving a trail of sparkling petals. Sylvara giggled. "Even Fluffy is part of the dance!"
The team watched in awe as the grove seemed alive, responding to Sylvara’s every gesture. Renkai, now in his humanoid form, raised an eyebrow. "I’m not sure if we should clap... or bow."
Lira stepped forward, smiling warmly. "You’ve done beautifully, Sylvara. This is your first independent coordination of multiple elements. You’ve harmonized air, earth, and Spirit in one flowing exercise. Few have ever achieved this."
Syla’s chest swelled with pride, though her fingers trembled slightly from exertion. "It... it feels amazing. Like the forest is breathing with me."
Thalanir knelt to touch the soil, now calm and perfectly aligned with the wind currents. "The island... and the forest, both respond to your presence. Remember this feeling—it’s the essence of what you can do."
Maelin grinned, stepping forward. "Now imagine using that in battle or for protection. You’re practically a walking, talking harmony of nature."
Patricia nodded, eyes sparkling. "And you’re just getting started."
As the sun began to lower, casting long beams through the crystal leaves, Sylvara allowed the elements to settle. The grove shimmered faintly, retaining the echo of her influence like a soft afterglow.
Lira placed a hand on her shoulder. "Rest now. Tomorrow, we’ll explore how to extend your control beyond this grove, into wild forests, rivers, even the sky. You’ve taken the first step into becoming a true multi-elemental user."
Syla exhaled, the tension leaving her body. "I... I can’t believe I did it."
"You did," Lira said with a proud smile. "And this is only the beginning."
The team settled around the clearing, the soft hum of harmonized elements filling the air. Even as night fell, the forest seemed calmer, as if it had recognized Sylvara’s presence and welcomed her as one of its own.
And somewhere deep in the grove, hidden within moss and crystal, tiny motes of energy flickered in approval—witnesses to a young elemental beginning to rise.
The next morning, the team packed their camp, ready to continue deeper into the forest below the floating islands. Sylvara walked alongside Lira, her confidence from the previous day’s training evident in her steps, though her eyes remained alert.
The forest ahead was dense, sunlight barely reaching the moss-covered floor. Branches tangled overhead, forming natural arches. The air was thick with humidity, and the faint hum of elemental energy vibrated faintly beneath their feet.
"This section is... tricky," Thalanir murmured, brushing a hand over a twisted root. "Paths shift, and the forest itself seems... protective. Be ready."
Renkai sniffed the air, ears flicking. "I sense movement. Something’s watching."
"Stay calm," Lira instructed. "We don’t know if it’s hostile yet."
As they advanced, the moss beneath their feet suddenly seemed to ripple, almost like water. Sylvara instinctively raised her hands, and the wind subtly lifted leaves to shield their path. From the waving green, two small figures slowly emerged.
They were humanoid in shape, but their skin seemed entirely made of moss and bark, with glowing eyes peeking from leafy features. Their movements were fluid, almost blending into the surrounding foliage.
"Welcome, travelers," one whispered, voice like the rustling of leaves. "You seek passage through the Thicket of Echoes. Few are attuned enough to traverse here."
Lira stepped forward, bowing slightly. "We mean no harm. We only wish to continue through safely."
The creatures nodded. "We will guide you... but only if you respect the forest. Touch nothing without purpose, and move with harmony."
Sylvara’s pulse quickened. She felt the same connection she had with the grove yesterday—the moss creatures responded subtly to her Spirit energy. She took a deep breath and extended her hands, sending gentle ripples of air and Spirit through the undergrowth. The moss underfoot flattened, creating a clearer path.
The two moss beings smiled faintly. "Ah... a kindred spirit," one murmured. "Then follow us closely."
As they walked, the moss creatures vanished and reappeared several times, always ahead of the team, leading them through hidden paths, over roots that could trip the unwary, and around thorned thickets that seemed impassable.
At one point, the forest became so dense that even Sylvara’s elemental guidance was challenged. The air thickened unnaturally, and shadows deepened between trees. From the darkness, enormous tree-like beings slowly emerged, their bark twisted and knotted, eyes glowing faintly.
Thalanir stepped forward calmly. "The guardians... they’ve been waiting. They only appear to those who respect the balance of the forest."
Sylvara extended her hands again, carefully guiding the air around the massive creatures, easing their cautious approach. The tree beings bent slightly, lowering their massive forms, as if acknowledging her control and intent.
"Very few mortals have walked these paths," one rumbled, voice like cracking wood. "Your intent is pure, young one. Lead, and we shall observe."
With their silent guidance, the team continued, stepping lightly where the ground was uneven, avoiding hidden traps, and discovering streams of crystal-clear water, plants with glowing flowers, and small pockets of mushrooms that shimmered faintly in the shadow.
Lira watched Sylvara closely, proud. "You’re doing perfectly. The forest trusts you as much as you trust it."
The moss and tree creatures never lingered long. They appeared only when needed, then melted back into the environment, leaving the team to marvel at the paths they uncovered—paths that would have been invisible or impassable without their guidance.
By the end of the day, the team reached a serene grove filled with soft glowing moss and crystal flowers—a natural resting place. Sylvara sat down, exhausted but elated.
"They only appear to those who listen," she whispered. "The forest... it’s alive in ways I never imagined."
Lira nodded, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "And you are learning to listen. That is what makes a true multi-elemental user."
Fluffy purred, curling in Sylvara’s lap, while Renkai leaned back against a tree in fox form, his tail twitching lazily. The forest seemed to hum with satisfaction, as if approving of their respect and care.
Thalanir looked around, eyes calm. "Tomorrow, we move further. The forest still holds secrets—plants, relics, and perhaps more multi-elemental surprises."
Sylvara smiled faintly, tracing the glowing moss with her fingertips. "I can’t wait. I feel... connected. Like I belong here."
Lira smiled back. "You do. And soon, you’ll learn how to share that connection with others—helping plants grow, guiding the forest, and even helping creatures who’ve lost their way."
The team settled into the grove for the night, moss glowing softly around them, the forest alive yet peaceful, and Sylvara’s confidence growing with every pulse of elemental energy she felt.
