Chapter 373: Chaos Cave Heaven · Three Years of Contemplation

~11 min read 2,011 words

Chaos Cave Heaven lies deep within the Ninth Dao Academy.

This place is sealed year-round by the Ninefold Grand Formation; only those at Spirit Transformation Stage or higher may enter. But Jiang Haiyun specially approved, allowing Wang Ping to enter as an exception.

Upon stepping into the cave heaven, Wang Ping felt a vast, ineffable aura.

It was a chaos-colored expanse of space, with no heaven or earth, no directions, only endless murky mist roiling. Within the mist, countless law fragments could be seen drifting—these were remnants of the Dao from when chaos first opened, each strand enough for a Nascent Soul cultivator to contemplate a lifetime.

At the center of the space hovered a huge chaos-colored crystal. Its surface was smooth as a mirror, reflecting the whole scene of the cave heaven, like a miniature chaos world.

Wang Ping took a deep breath and sat cross-legged before the crystal.

He closed his eyes and began to heal his wounds first.

The Chaos Nascent Soul turned slowly, while the Jianmu Seed emitted a gentle azure light, gradually nourishing the tiny cracks on the Nascent Soul's surface. The Heaven-Overturning Seal and the Chaos Tribulation Sword floated at his sides, likewise absorbing the cave heaven's chaos aura and slowly repairing their own damage.

Time passed unnoticed.

One day, two days, three days…

One month, two months, three months…

When Wang Ping opened his eyes again, his wounds had healed, and his aura was even more solid and profound than before his injury.

He knew this was only the beginning.

The real main event was still to come.

He reached into his bosom and took out that jade disc projection.

The palm-sized projection now emitted a soft glow; within the light, countless hexagonal crystals could be seen slowly rotating, each crystal reflecting the profound trajectories of one or several laws.

Wang Ping drew a deep breath and placed the jade disc projection before his brow.

His Chaos Primordial Spirit slowly extended.

In an instant, countless pieces of information surged into his sea of consciousness like a bursting flood—

The Flame Law told him that the essence of burning is not destruction but transformation; the Ice Law told him that the essence of freezing is not stagnation but tranquility; the Thunder Law told him that the essence of explosion is not destruction but rebirth; the Space Law told him that the essence of folding is not distortion but inclusion; the Time Law told him that the essence of flow is not loss but accumulation…

But this time, Wang Ping was no longer satisfied with merely 'knowing'.

What he wanted was 'fusion'.

What he first contemplated was 'Space Stabilization'.

In that battle, he personally witnessed the might of the Order Seal—it solidified space itself into a cage, preventing movement or escape. And the final punch of the Ancestor Who Moves Mountains could blast a crack only because, at that instant, he broke space's 'solidification'.

'The essence of space is to embrace all things, not to imprison them,' Wang Ping murmured. 'True stabilization is not making space hard as iron, but letting it withstand any impact without collapsing.'

He began to construct a new rune within his Chaos Nascent Soul—a 'Stabilizing Rune' he had comprehended from the Space Law crystal.

As the rune took shape, the Heaven-Overturning Seal trembled slightly. The cracks on its surface began to heal at a visible speed. Damage that would have taken years to repair was completely restored in just a few days thanks to the aid of the Space Stabilization law.

It was even stronger than before.

Wang Ping opened his eyes and gazed at the renewed Heaven-Overturning Seal; a flash of insight crossed his gaze.

'Space Stabilization is not just for imprisoning foes; it also protects oneself.'

He continued his contemplation.

Next came 'Energy Transformation'.

This law arose from the interplay of the Flame Law and the Ice Law. On the jade disc, a crystal simultaneously reflected the trajectories of both flame and ice, intertwining and transforming into a perfect closed loop.

'When fire reaches its extreme, it gives rise to cold; when cold reaches its extreme, it gives rise to fire.' Wang Ping mused, 'Yang at its extreme yields yin; yin at its extreme yields yang. Chaos embraces all things, and is thus the source of all transformation.'

He began to try integrating this law into his Chaos Immortal Essence.

Originally, his Chaos Immortal Essence, while encompassing all attributes, felt a slight hindrance when transforming. But now, with the incorporation of the Energy Transformation law, that hindrance gradually vanished. His Chaos Immortal Essence, circulating within his body, could be transmuted at will into any attribute, and even simultaneously contain multiple attributes at the same instant.

This meant his combat style would become far more flexible and harder to predict.

The third thing he contemplated was 'Virtual-Actual Evolution'.

This law came from an exceptionally special crystal within the jade disc. That crystal reflected not any concrete law, but the transformation between 'existence' and 'non-existence'—that is, the dialectic of the virtual and the real, the intertwining of illusion and truth.

Wang Ping recalled Madame Mystic Fox's illusionary arts. Those phantasms, though seeming false, could wound, trap, and kill—because at a certain moment they were 'real'.

'Between the virtual and the real there is no absolute boundary,' he murmured. 'Chaos evolves all things; all things can arise from nothing and also return to nothing.'

He began to try integrating this law into his own Dao arts.

The Azure Phoenix Phantom Step, originally merely an evasive movement technique, now allowed him to shift between the virtual and the real—when enemies attacked, he could instantly become an insubstantial phantom, letting their strikes miss; when he attacked, he could instantly solidify, leaving opponents unable to defend.

This was no longer merely a movement technique; it was almost a divine ability at the level of law.

The last, and most crucial, was 'The Dialectical Unity of Order and Chaos'.

This was the stage Wang Ping contemplated the longest and found the most difficult.

On the jade disc there was a crystal that simultaneously reflected the trajectories of two utterly opposite laws—one side the absolute stability of Order Power, the other the infinite variability of Primordial Chaos. They clashed violently on the crystal's surface, yet depended on each other, forming a bizarre equilibrium.

'Order and chaos are but two sides of the same coin,' Wang Ping recalled the insight he had gained in the Law Corridor: 'Chaos embraces all things; order and chaos both reside within it.'

He closed his eyes and began to try truly integrating that strand of Primordial Chaos into his own Chaos system.

Before, it merely dwelled within him, coexisting peacefully, but not truly merged. Now, what he must do is let it become part of the Chaos, part of himself.

This process was arduous and perilous.

Each throb of the Primordial Chaos struck his heart and mind, seeking to drag him into the abyss of madness. This impact was more terrifying than any inner demon—it was not temptation, not illusion, but pure, utter 'chaos'.

Wang Ping did not retreat.

His Dao heart grew more resilient with each impact; his Chaos Primordial Spirit became more solid with each jolt.

No one knew how long it had been—perhaps months, perhaps years—but at some point that strand of Primordial Chaos finally ceased its throbbing.

It hovered silently at the brow of his Chaos Nascent Soul, no longer struggling, no longer resisting.

Then it slowly merged.

It merged into the Chaos Immortal Essence, into the Chaos Primordial Spirit, into the Heaven-Overturning Seal, into the Chaos Tribulation Sword, into the Jianmu Seed, and into every inch of Wang Ping's flesh and every thread of his thought.

At that moment, Wang Ping's whole body shuddered violently.

He felt an unprecedented 'perfection'.

It is not perfection in cultivation, but perfection on the path—the chaos embraces all things, and he finally embraced the pair of contradictions, 'order and chaos,' into his own Dao.

He opened his eyes, and the chaotic-colored light in his eyes flowed, within which countless laws could be faintly seen intertwining, evolving, and arising and ceasing.

"So this is the true essence of chaos……"

In the cave heaven, there are no seasons; when the cold ends, one does not know the year.

When Wang Ping opened his eyes again, he no longer knew how much time had passed.

He inwardly inspected his dantian and discovered that the chaos Nascent Soul had undergone a tremendous change.

That Nascent Soul was no longer just an infant form; it had become more solid and taller. It sat cross-legged at the center of the dantian, eyes half-closed, bearing a solemn sacred appearance, surrounded by a faint chaotic light. Above its head, a faint virtual shadow was condensing—that was the embryonic form of the Primordial Spirit.

The transformation from Nascent Soul to Primordial Spirit has already begun.

This process is the mark of the transition from the Nascent Soul stage to the Spirit Transformation stage. When the Nascent Soul completely transforms into the Primordial Spirit and fully merges with the laws of heaven and earth, that is the Spirit Transformation realm.

Wang Ping could feel that he was not far from that realm.

He then looked toward the seed of the Establishing Tree.

That seed had now completely changed in appearance. It was no longer just a seed; it had put out a fine tender shoot—though the shoot was only about an inch long, it exuded an indescribable vitality and Dao rhythm. On the shoot were two tiny leaves, each leaf reflecting the scene of the chaos nebula.

The Establishing Tree, a primordial innate spiritual root, is famed as the 'Tree that Connects to Heaven.'

It finally sprouted.

Although it was only a sprout, Wang Ping could feel that within it lay the spatial laws sufficient for him to comprehend a lifetime. Given time, when this sprout grows into a towering tree, he might truly be able to touch the legendary 'Connecting to Heaven' realm thereby.

The Heaven-Overturning Seal and the Chaos Tribulation Sword also underwent transformation.

The cracks on the surface of the Heaven-Overturning Seal had completely disappeared, replaced by more profound chaos runes. Those runes were naturally imprinted when Wang Ping comprehended the law of space stabilization. Now the Heaven-Overturning Seal's defensive strength is more than double what it was before.

On the blade of the Chaos Tribulation Sword appeared a faintly visible pattern. The pattern alternated between clear and blurred, as if constantly shifting between the virtual and the real. This is the manifestation of the illusion-reality evolution law—now the Chaos Tribulation Sword can shift between the virtual and the real, leaving enemies unable to defend against it.

Wang Ping satisfiedly withdrew his inner vision and slowly rose to his feet.

He did not know how much time had passed, but he knew it was time to go out.

He raised his hand, put away the Heaven-Overturning Seal and the Chaos Tribulation Sword, carefully stored the jade disc projection in his bosom, then took a deep breath and stepped out of the Chaos Cave-Heaven.

Outside the cave heaven, the sunshine was bright and beautiful.

As soon as Wang Ping appeared, he saw a familiar figure sitting cross-legged not far from the entrance of the cave heaven.

Cang Xuan.

He was still dressed in a black combat outfit, his sword resting across his knees, eyes closed in silent meditation. But the moment Wang Ping appeared, he opened his eyes.

"Three years." Cang Xuan said calmly as he rose and walked over, "You have been in seclusion for three years."

Three years.

Wang Ping blinked slightly. He felt only a few months had passed, never expecting that three years had elapsed outside.

"Three years… that long?"

Cang Xuan nodded: "The Alliance has seen many events these three years. Your emergence comes at just the right time."

Wang Ping furrowed his brow slightly: "What matters?"

Cang Xuan looked at him, his gaze solemn.

"The Pure World Court is making a move again."
