Chapter 138

~11 min read 2,154 words

"Why didn't Su Huan come?"

He Dong (see Chapter 32, class reunion) didn't see Su Huan and felt a hint of disappointment—he should've asked ahead of time.

Fei Kai teased, "Still not giving up?"

Then his expression shifted slightly as he added, "Su Huan is on a business trip to Beijing."

He Dong shook his head without speaking, but his pursuit of Su Huan was as obvious as Sima Zhao's ambition—everyone in their circle knew.

Yet Su Huan clearly had no interest in him and never gave him the slightest opening.

"Business trip?" Zhang Kang exclaimed beside him. "She already found a job that fast?"

At his words, Shao Yan and Chen Ziyi both stared at him in surprise.

Xia Weiwei asked, "Don't you all know? Su Huan quit her job half a month ago."

Shao Yan shook her head and exchanged a glance with Chen Ziyi: "I thought she was still at Alibaba—I had no idea she'd quit. But with the monitor's abilities, landing another job must be easy."

Fei Kai laughed, "Didn't you watch Qin Yun's livestream yesterday? That guy is insane—he did downhill longboarding at 144 km/h, like he didn't care about his life. Su Huan even appeared on camera before the official stream—I bet she's working with Qin Yun now."

Before he finished, Xia Weiwei shouted loudly, "Wait, what? Have you guys seen Su Huan's Moments?"

All of them were WeChat friends with Su Huan; at once, they curiously tapped into her feed.

Then they saw the latest update she'd posted.

A photo inside a car, and Su Huan's selfie.

【Back in Hangzhou. Gotta take the CEO out to dinner.】

Their attention instantly shifted from Su Huan to the car's interior and the blurred silhouette beside it.

Chen Ziyi gasped, "Damn, that's Qin Yun, right?"

"I think so too—so is Monitor Su dating Qin Yun now?"

"I said something felt off last time—so that's what it was…"

Fei Kai glanced at He Dong's darkening face and immediately clammed up.

"I feel like I've seen this car's interior somewhere before," Zhang Kang mused, staring at the photo, trying to place it.

He Dong said coolly, "BMW XMLableRed. Over three million RMB delivered."

As he spoke, a self-deprecating smile curled his lips. He shook his head and opened a beer, drinking alone.

Hearing He Dong's words, everyone was utterly stunned.

Three million RMB for a BMW? What kind of BMW is that?

Then, remembering Qin Yun's status as a top Douyin livestreamer, they could only mutter: damn, livestreamers really make money.

Though they were Qin Yun's classmates, apart from Fei Kai, none of them were particularly interested in livestreaming; their knowledge of his streams was limited to fragments they'd scrolled past on Douyin.

So far, none had deliberately watched one of his livestreams—even when they stumbled upon one, they'd glance for a moment and move on. Maybe some strange psychological resistance was at play.

"I never thought livestreaming could make that much money," Zhang Kang said, his mood complicated—he'd never gotten along with Qin Yun in college, and human nature made him resent anyone doing better than him.

And now, it seemed the most beautiful flower in their class might have been plucked by Qin Yun himself—making his feelings even more tangled.

"He's just a livestreamer. He contributes nothing to society."

He Dong sneered. Chen Ziyi opened his mouth to argue, but Shao Yan stopped him with a glance—she signaled he shouldn't waste energy arguing with a jealous, bitter man.

Xia Weiwei bit her lip, silently cursing: Su Huan, Su Huan—I thought you were so pure and refined, yet you're still chasing money by hooking up with Qin Yun. Wait till…

A bad thought flashed through her mind, and she instinctively felt a pang of shame.

At this moment, the complexity of human nature was laid bare in the eyes of every classmate in the private room.

Though Shao Yan had stopped Chen Ziyi, she herself murmured softly: "There are countless Douyin livestreamers, but every one who reaches the top is a rare talent. Even if he weren't a livestreamer, he'd still succeed at anything else."

He Dong's face darkened; the atmosphere grew heavier.

Soon after, the reunion ended in awkward silence.

Back in the car, Shao Yan touched the pendant at her chest and called Su Huan.

The call connected quickly.

"Monitor, you're back in Hangzhou?"

Su Huan laughed, "Yeah, Yan Yan. I didn't expect to return today. Are you still at dinner?"

"No, it's over. Your admirer ruined the mood, so everyone just left."

Shao Yan didn't hide it.

Su Huan instantly knew who she meant and smiled, "I haven't even started eating yet. Why don't you and Ziyi come over? Qin Yun's here too."

Shao Yan and Chen Ziyi exchanged a glance, then nodded: "Perfect—I was still hungry."

"Alright, I'll send you the address. See you soon."

After hanging up, Su Huan sent the location to Shao Yan and turned to Qin Yun: "You don't mind, right? In Hangzhou, I'm still close with Yan Yan and Ziyi."

"Of course not," Qin Yun shook his head. "They're your classmates—and mine too."

Su Huan had her own quiet intentions.

Honestly, after months of being around Qin Yun, she'd truly fallen for him.

But she could tell he was wary of new relationships. Even though he'd seemed shy at the Beijing guesthouse yesterday, she had a feeling that if she pushed further, he'd react with fierce resistance.

So she planned to take it slow—no rush.

Step one: she'd already won over Aunt Hu. Step two: she'd slowly make this reality known in her social circle. Step three: she'd gradually break through Qin Yun's defenses.

As the saying goes: a man chasing a woman faces a mountain; a woman chasing a man faces only a thin veil.

With her looks and figure, layered advances, and their long-standing friendship since college—combined with their overlapping careers—how could she not win him over eventually?

Hehe!

"What are you hehe-ing about?"

Su Huan startled, looked up, and saw Qin Yun watching her strangely—only then did she realize she'd laughed out loud, and her face flushed crimson.

"Nothing much. When Shao Yan and Chen Ziyi get here, let them order a few more dishes themselves."

"Mm, that's only right."

About half an hour later, two more people joined the table.

As soon as Chen Ziyi arrived, he poured all the admiration he'd built up from watching Qin Yun's video on the way into his words.

"You've changed so much? After a few years at work, your physical condition has become insane. Look at me—I've got a little belly now."

"Haha, you've got to ask your own Shao Yan about that. She's been feeding you too well."

Shao Yan rolled her eyes at the two of them and snapped, "He won't exercise himself, just eats and lies around all day, collapses on the couch when he gets home—in a few more years, I swear he'll turn into a middle-aged greasy man."

Saying that, she ignored them, leaned close to Su Huan's ear, and the two began whispering secrets.

As they spoke, her gaze kept gliding over Qin Yun.

Especially after hearing certain things, Shao Yan even showed an expression of awe and envy.

Finally, she whispered, "Seeing Qin Yun's achievements now, Song Ya probably regrets it to the bone."

Su Huan covered her mouth and smiled. She didn't mention that Song Ya had called her—though she appeared magnanimous, her words betrayed unmistakable resentment.

After eating and drinking their fill, the four took a short walk in a nearby park, then prepared to part ways.

Soon after, Shao Yan and Chen Ziyi watched a sporty BMW SUV slowly drive away.

Chen Ziyi stared with envy—he doubted he'd ever be able to afford a car of this caliber in his lifetime.

Thinking of it, he felt a pang of disappointment.

"Honey, give you five years. Five years from now, I want to drive one too. Go for it."

"Ahh—!"

Back at Su Huan's place, Qin Yun didn't stay overnight. After sending the video footage to Fang Nan's company, he drove off.

Su Huan didn't try to persuade him—after all, a lone man and a lone woman, who knew what might happen?

She still held onto this much self-respect.

Qin Yun wasn't stupid. The barrier between them was fragile—any slight push might bring it down—but his inner reservations kept him from making the move.

Between men and women, it sounds simple, but in the end, it always comes down to responsibility.

Responsibility can be light or heavy. To Song Ya, it might be as light as a feather, utterly insignificant; but to Qin Yun, it was a lifelong burden. Having been wronged by Song Ya, he approached new relationships with even greater caution.

Su Huan was excellent—there wasn't a single flaw he could find.

And precisely because of that, he worried. He feared.

He worried about Su Huan's family. He feared the unpredictable future.

"Why think so much? Let things take their course." Qin Yun shook his head, pushed the thoughts aside, rolled down his window, and the noisy outside world rushed in without hesitation.

Passersby who saw this luxury car drive by couldn't help but glance with envy—but it no longer gave Qin Yun any sense of vanity.

He didn't think driving a luxury car was anything special.

Given his nature, if Laura hadn't gifted him this car, he'd never have bought one of this caliber in his life.

To him, it was simply overkill in value and performance.

The car glided smoothly down the road when suddenly, the shattering sound of a beer bottle startled him.

"Don't give me that attitude—you think I'm gonna keep chasing you forever? My patience has limits."

Qin Yun turned his head through the window and saw a group of young men and women dining at a roadside barbecue stall. One man, clearly drunk, had smashed a beer bottle and was yelling at a girl.

A girl?

Qin Yun suddenly realized the girl looked familiar.

In an instant, a name flashed into his memory.

He slammed on the brakes and pulled over beside a bus stop.

"Big Brother Liang, you're drunk."

Zhou Wen quickly grabbed Wang Liang and apologized to Chu Xin: "Chu Xin, I'm sorry—Wang Liang's drunk. He didn't mean it. Don't take it to heart."

"I'm not drunk!" Wang Liang shoved his arm away, nearly knocking Zhou Wen over. He pointed at Chu Xin. "Don't think I don't know what you're up to? You're using me as a sucker? Dream on."

Chu Xin's face darkened, tinged with hurt.

"Wang Liang, I've told you a hundred times—I don't like you. You're the one who keeps pestering me… Ah—!"

Chu Xin was suddenly shoved backward and fell.

Jiang Chujing and Su Wenjing's faces changed instantly—they rushed to catch her.

"Wang Liang, what are you doing? You're hitting people now? Do you even have any shame?"

"You've gone too far, Wang Liang. We were classmates—I gave you face. Who do you think you are? Think you can just pick whoever you want to be with?"

Tears clung to Chu Xin's eyelashes.

Wang Liang's face flushed red. He ignored their shouts as if he hadn't heard them. He stepped forward and reached for Chu Xin's hand—she flinched back in panic.

"Chu Xin, Xin Xin, I really like you. Just give me a chance."

Jiang Chujing looked at him with disgust, stepped forward, and blocked his filthy hand. Then she glared at Zhou Wen: "Get him out of here. You're embarrassing us all."

Zhou Wen's head throbbed—he deeply regretted coming.

Wang Liang squinted at Jiang Chujing, then suddenly reached out to touch her face: "If Xin Xin won't go out with me, how about you, Jiang Chujing? I kinda like you too."

The moment he spoke, a hand suddenly pressed down on his shoulder—so heavy he couldn't move forward an inch.

"Who the fuck is this?"

Qin Yun frowned. A strong stench of alcohol hit him. He applied slight pressure and shoved the man sideways into the other guy.

"Classmate, please take him away."

Zhou Wen immediately grabbed Wang Liang, but Wang Liang struggled. Zhou Wen, furious, shoved him hard and hurried him off.

"Don't pull me, Zhou Wen! Let go, you bastard! I'm gonna teach this piece of shit a lesson—let go of me!"

The others at the barbecue stall, seeing there was no more drama to watch, turned their gazes away.

"Big Brother Qin?"

Chu Xin, Jiang Chujì, and Su Wenjing finally recognized who it was, and their faces lit up with delight.

"How are you in Hangzhou? Aren't you in Beijing?"

They were all loyal fans of Qin Yun, watching every one of his live streams.

Qin Yun smiled: "I was just driving by and saw some commotion here. I recognized your silhouettes as familiar, so I got out to check—and it really is you."
