Chapter 3: A Big Surprise Package

~7 min read 1,372 words

The company where Qin Yun worked was a rising enterprise, claiming to be the global leader in home 3D, founded only a few years ago, and he could be considered a veteran employee.

But among the many veteran employees, he was the only one still honestly working his way up at the grassroots level — on one hand, he didn't like dealing with people in that insincere, back-and-forth way, and on the other hand, he truly couldn't bear to give up the skills in his hands.

This SaaS system of the company — for it to have reached its current state, it would be no exaggeration to say one-fifth of the credit was his.

But since the system updates, it actually no longer needed a large workforce; he had long known about the layoff rumors, he just never expected that the final axe would fall on him.

For one, he was a veteran employee with illustrious merits; for another, his salary really wasn't high. If even someone like him could be laid off, it only proved that you really shouldn't talk about feelings at work.

By the time he arrived at the company, it was already lunchtime, and he didn't go upstairs, just ate a little casually downstairs.

Qin Yun arrived at his workstation, and before he could even pack his things, his supervisor walked over from not far away.

"Xiao Qin, let's talk."

Qin Yun nodded expressionlessly. The guy in front of him calling him Xiao Qin was younger than him, and had even been brought into the company by him — yet in the blink of an eye, the other had become his supervisor. Where's the justice in that?

Before, it was always "Qin Ge, Qin Ge," now it's "Xiao Qin, Xiao Qin." People really are a strange kind of animal.

Arriving at a nearby meeting room, the other party said with a helpless expression: "Xiao Qin, Brother Wang told you, right? I didn't expect the company would end up laying you off. I tried everything I could, but the higher-ups wouldn't take it back. I've done my best."

Qin Yun frowned slightly — just for this matter they dragged him into a meeting room, what for?

"Nothing else?"

The other party was briefly stunned, feeling that today's Qin Yun was somehow a bit different. He nodded lightly and reached out to pat Qin Yun's shoulder.

But before his hand could land, Qin Yun turned and pushed the door to leave. His peripheral gaze swept over the supervisor frozen in place, and the corner of his mouth curled into a cold smirk.

"Hmph, what's there to be so arrogant about? Just because you know a little tech you think you're something? You still have to work under me."

Qin Yun returned to his workstation, and some of his colleagues came over one after another to quietly probe.

He didn't hide it either, directly saying he'd been laid off, though as for the specific compensation, he didn't mention it.

After packing up his things, the HRBP came over to find him.

"This is the compensation agreement. Take a look. If there are no issues, sign it. The compensation will be paid to you together with your salary on this month's payday."

Qin Yun carefully checked it over. The rest wasn't really worth looking at — the main thing was to see if the compensation amount was accurate. As far as he knew, some companies would calculate the base salary as the basis for compensation. Fortunately, the company still had some humanity and didn't play tricks in this area.

Confirming everything was correct, Qin Yun signed his name, then returned his employee badge, and went to get an employment separation certificate and an income certificate, in case he needed them later.

After finishing everything, he let out a long sigh of relief.

But before leaving, he found the employee taking over his work — the guy was the supervisor's man. Out of goodwill, he explained some situations the system might face, but seeing the other's impatient expression, in the end he could only smile bitterly and shake his head.

This system really didn't need many more developers, but maintenance wasn't a simple matter either. Because part of the system was developed by him, maintaining it was as easy for him as strolling through a back garden — but for others, it was different.

"Forget it, I've already quit, none of my damn business."

Seeing that the other party didn't appreciate it, Qin Yun said no more.

After packing up and throwing everything he didn't want into the trash can at the door, he felt much more relaxed overall.

He slung his backpack on his back, said goodbye to a few people, and went to wait at the elevator.

In a short while, the elevator came down from the upper floors. The moment the elevator doors opened, a familiar figure walked out from inside. Seeing Qin Yun, the other party was briefly stunned.

"Xiao Qin, are you going on a business trip?"

Seeing the other party, a sincere smile appeared on Qin Yun's face: "President Tang, I've resigned."

President Tang, full name Tang Kuaihuai, was the company's vice president, formerly the company's business head. It was he who had recruited Qin Yun into the company — he could be considered his Bo Le.

"Resigned?" Tang Kuaihuai raised his brows, then suddenly realized, and his face immediately darkened. "You got fired?"

Tang Kuaihuai had long stopped managing the business side, so there actually wasn't much interaction between him and Qin Yun, but he still knew that a large part of the company's foundation was the contribution of the young man before him.

"This is simply absurd. What the hell is Yang Xiu doing, daring to fire even you."

Tang Kuaihuai shouted angrily, his emotions somewhat agitated.

"President Tang, it's already done. Besides, I was just thinking of taking a break. The company fired me, and I still get some compensation — that's pretty good."

"No way. I recruited you in. They can't just fire people at will without my approval — this is simply... simply %……"

As Tang Kuaihuai was speaking, he noticed that Qin Yun was really in quite a good mood, with an indescribable sense of relaxation about him.

"You... have decided?"

Qin Yun nodded: "Mm, I've finished handling some things, and plan to go back to my hometown."

Tang Kuaihuai sighed, patted Qin Yun's shoulder, and said nothing more.

"If there's anything you need my help with, just say the word."

"Thanks, President Tang."

Qin Yun released his hand holding the elevator, stepped inside, and waved at Tang Kuaihuai as a farewell.

When the elevator closed, Tang Kuaihuai's face darkened, and he went straight to Qin Yun's department and started cursing up a storm.

The cursing was so harsh — especially Qin Yun's supervisor, who was nearly cursed into a pile of shit by him. It wasn't until the leader of the business department came over that the barrage shifted.

"President Tang, this company can keep running without anyone. To save company costs, this is necessary."

"You understand jack shit. One-fifth of the company's code was written by that Qin Yun. When the time comes for system maintenance and some bugs need to be handled, let's see what you people will do."

"President Tang, you don't need to worry about that. The company has so many business backbones. That Qin Yun is just a grassroots employee."

"Grassroots?" Tang Kuaihuai was stunned, then immediately started cursing again. "Damn it, the guy's been here four years and is still grassroots, while you useless good-for-nothings sit high up in the leadership — fuck..."

Afterwards Qin Yun learned that the company system really did have no small problem, causing quite a bit of loss, and his supervisor was directly kicked out for joint liability — but that was later.

Having already resigned, he couldn't be bothered to care about his former company's gossip.

Coming out of the company, he went straight back to the hotel, planning to stay at this budget hotel until he finished the divorce procedures with Song Ya, then head back to Zhejiang. As for work afterward, he'd figure it out later.
