Chapter 306: The Temptation of One Hundred Thousand Dollars
When the power of the state is mobilized, how efficient can it become?
Qin Yun merely stated his need at a gas station, and after driving a hundred kilometers, at another rest area, he was told that the item he needed had already been developed.
After a quick test on his phone to confirm it met all his requirements, he was impressed by the civil servants' efficiency. If local government departments operated with this kind of speed, that would be amazing.
Everyone knows that in the modern world, every person's phone is monitored—whether by the government or by major capital interests.
Of course, this so-called monitoring isn't about someone hiding somewhere, secretly listening to your conversations; in truth, it's simply a basic application of AI.
There may be superficial requests for permissions, but in reality, those are just for show—they don't need your consent to eavesdrop on you. This applies equally to Apple and Android.
Qin Yun's request was simple: this mini-program would bypass the system entirely; with just one tap, he could instantly know the phone's coordinates. Even if the phone's coordinates had some error, his requirements explicitly specified the mini-program's precision.
"With this, now we just wait to see if this guy bites."
Qin Yun didn't act immediately; he put away his phone and resumed driving.
On Kenya's A3 highway, the road ahead was still fine—relatively smooth, with occasional towns visible on either side. But now, after driving this far, there were virtually no signs of human habitation; the landscape stretched out with overwhelming desert emptiness. Those who knew were aware they were on a highway; those who didn't might think they'd wandered into some remote backwater.
The Corolla provided by Ambassador Guo was a ten-year-old vehicle. Though it looked old, it was well-maintained—but at highway speeds above 130, it struggled terribly.
"Huh?"
Wasn't that truck ahead the one transporting the giraffes? Why did it slow down?
Qin Yun switched lanes, then froze.
Ahead on the road, there was an obstacle—a roadblock made of police warning cones, red and white, staggered across the first lane. Beside the second lane, a police car was parked, and three figures in police uniforms stood nearby; one held a stop sign, gesturing for the truck to halt.
Qin Yun returned to the second lane, following closely behind the truck, waiting for inspection.
"Weird. There are police patrolling out here? Ridiculous."
Police stopping vehicles on the highway—this wasn't even common back home.
Soon, the truck ahead slowed to a stop. The two officers leaning against the police car walked over, looking casual and indifferent.
At that moment, the officer holding the stop sign noticed the car behind the truck. He muttered something to the officer passing by, then headed toward Qin Yun.
Arriving at Qin Yun's car, he signaled for him to get out.
Qin Yun nodded, shifted into park, opened the door, and stepped out. As soon as he turned around, he saw the man pull a gun from his waist and point it directly at his head.
"Hand over all the cash you have."
The black man grinned, his bright white teeth glaringly visible.
"Uh… I'm Chinese."
Qin Yun, bewildered, said something stupid.
Sure enough, the black man burst into laughter in broken but fluent Chinese: "Hello! I specifically rob Chinese. You Chinese have money, you're generous, and you always carry cash. Hahaha, hurry up and give me all your cash, or I'll send you to meet your Buddha."
"…"
"@¥%……&"
Suddenly, loud curses erupted from the truck ahead. Qin Yun saw Jafari dragged out and thrown hard onto the ground, while Omar stumbled, then took a rifle butt to the face.
The two police officers launched into a brutal beating, punching and kicking until the two men screamed in agony.
"Are you real police or fake?"
Qin Yun frowned at the man.
Seeing Qin Yun's lack of fear, the black man felt a flicker of respect. In the past, every Chinese person he robbed had trembled, begging not to be killed. He'd never seen one so calm while a gun was pointed at their head.
But…
"Enough talk. Hand over the money."
Qin Yun shook his head. His Divine Art had just reached completion—and here came an experience boost, right on cue. What luck.
"Shhh—!"
The black man's vision blurred. The Chinese man vanished before his eyes. Then his neck throbbed—and darkness swallowed him.
Qin Yun gripped the man by the back of his neck and tossed him onto the roadside. He turned to see the two police officers still beating Jafari and Omar, who could only huddle and cover their heads.
"Hey!"
The two officers paused their assault and turned toward Qin Yun. When they saw the situation, they scrambled to draw their guns—but their movements were glacial compared to his. Before they could even pull their weapons, Qin Yun was already standing before them.
"Slap! Slap!"
Left and right, Qin Yun seized their throats with both hands, squeezing slightly. Both men felt as if they'd seen their great-grandmother.
"Jafari, Omar—are you alright?"
Jafari and Omar, still huddled with their heads covered, blinked in surprise at hearing English. When they opened their eyes and saw him, they were stunned.
"Qin!"
They scrambled to their feet, eyes wide with lingering terror.
"What's going on? Are they real police?"
Jafari gave a bitter laugh: "Qin, I don't know if they're real police, but they're definitely imposters—professional bandits who target cash, phones, and cargo."
Omar nodded: "We've been driving the A3 for years. We've been robbed multiple times."
Watching the two men gasping, nearly suffocating, Qin Yun gave them a light toss, sending them sprawling onto the sandy roadside. Pebbles the size of fists dug into their bodies, making them cry out and curl up, panting.
Jafari looked at Qin Yun with awe: "Qin, you're incredibly strong."
These two were each over 170 pounds, yet in Qin Yun's hands, they were as weightless as dogs.
Qin Yun clapped his hands and shrugged: "Should we call the police, or just leave them?"
Jafari shook his head: "No need to call. Even if they are real police, doing this is something they can't afford to expose."
"Alright, then get back in your truck and go."
"Thank you, Qin. If not for you, we'd have lost everything."
They expressed their gratitude repeatedly.
After a while, the truck resumed its journey and soon vanished from sight. Only then did Qin Yun walk over to the two police officers.
"Do you speak Chinese?"
The two men's faces were full of fear, and the way they looked at Qin Yun was as if they were looking at a devil, shaking their heads in a flurry.
Qin Yun repeated it in English, and only then did the two nod.
"Are you police?"
Looking at Qin Yun's narrowed eyes, the two hurriedly shook their heads.
"N-no… we're not police, don't… don't kill us."
"Y-yes, that's right, long live Sino-Kenyan friendship."
Qin Yun was nearly driven to laugh in exasperation. Damn it, now it's Sino-Kenyan friendship? What about that guy earlier who said the ones to rob were you Chinese?
"Smack—!"
Qin Yun couldn't hold back and slapped him across the face. The black man who'd said long live Sino-Kenyan friendship had his head knocked to one side, put up no resistance at all, and was knocked out cold from the slap, collapsing onto the ground on his hands and knees like a heap of rotten mud, butt sticking up in the air.
"Ah… spare me, spare me!"
Qin Yun shook his head, his left hand brushing past the other man's neck. Then he moved all the warning cones on the road to the side, tossed the three of them one by one into the police car, and shoved the car straight down off the national highway.
"I'm really a good person!"
After confiscating the weapons on the three of them, Qin Yun sighed to himself.
