Chapter 57: Qin Ye Can Carve
After treating the she-wolf's wound and wrapping it with leaves, Qin Yun ignored it and returned to the cave.
Some viewers in the livestream suggested he carry the she-wolf back with him.
He smiled and said: "Compared to a wolf's life, I think human life is more worth cherishing—I'm afraid that if I fall asleep at night, it'll bite me in one go. Wild wolves don't know obedience; even tamed wolves harbor rebellion in their hearts, let alone ones from different species."
Back in the cave, the fire was nearly out; he quickly added a few more logs. Fortunately, the rabbit still on the spit was warm. After finishing most of it, he prepared to end the livestream.
"Today's haul was decent—I made a bow and arrow from local materials, successfully hunted a wild rabbit, and found a suitable place to rest. It's rare to have a safe spot to sleep in the wild."
"That's it for today's livestream. I'll start again tomorrow morning on time. If you haven't followed yet, please do so—you'll get a notification when I go live. Thanks."
As he prepared to shut down the equipment, the comment section flooded wildly:
"It's only 7:30! Host, you're going to sleep that early? Can you even sleep? Let's chat a bit!"
"Yeah, host, don't go offline yet—I just came in!"
"Ai Yueyue sent the host two sports cars—host, let's talk some more about those two cars!"
"Yongyuan Bu Puchang sent the host five hot air balloons—stream a bit longer, stream a bit longer!"
Qin Yun looked at the comments, saw the gifts flooding in, and couldn't bear to cut off the stream so rudely. He said: "Alright, let's chat for another half-hour—I'll share some practical wilderness knowledge with you all."
He placed the drone beside him, turned his head, and could immediately see the screen. Sitting by the fire, he felt utterly comfortable.
The viewer count had reached his all-time peak, surpassing ten thousand. Though this number meant little among Douyin hosts, maintaining ten thousand viewers was already an impressive feat.
He was nearly approaching the top-tier hosts.
Yet his follower count had only just hit three hundred thousand—nearly a hundred thousand new followers in one and a half days since yesterday. He was very satisfied with this growth.
Just as he was about to start chatting, a pop-up appeared on the screen, showing the sender's nickname, avatar, and two options.
Seeing the nickname, he winced and said to the livestream: "Friends, I just got a PK challenge from 【Xuxu Baobao】. Should I accept or decline?"
"Holy shit, you're a dude and Xuxu Baobao's challenging you?"
"Definitely accept! It's like a top Douyin host doing a raid—massive traffic boost!"
"I just checked—Xuxu Baobao's stream has over a hundred thousand viewers. You decide, host."
"Over a hundred thousand" was just a rough number; only he could see the real count on his backend. This was a true top-tier Douyin host—with tens of millions of followers, utterly legendary.
But he remembered Xuxu Baobao was a gaming streamer—when did he start doing chat PKs?
He tapped "accept." The livestream instantly split into two screens; a familiar face appeared on the right.
Xuxu Baobao's PK was purely random—just a screen flash, and suddenly a glowing red human face appeared on the left, startling him.
"Oh shit! You scared the hell out of me, bro, what are you doing?!"
Seeing Xuxu Baobao's terrified expression, the livestream viewers burst into laughter.
Qin Yun stepped back, holding the drone farther away, and chuckled: "Hey, Brother Xu."
"Bro, where are you? Why does it look so dark?"
Qin Yun said: "I'm in the primeval forest of the Greater Khingan Range."
Xuxu Baobao immediately looked skeptical: "Bro, who are you trying to fool? Greater Khingan Range? Why not say you're in Shennongjia?"
Qin Yun smiled wryly and flew the drone outside. When Xuxu Baobao saw the barren night-vision footage beyond, he finally believed.
Then he gasped: "Holy shit, bro, you're risking your life streaming in the Greater Khingan primeval forest!"
Some livestream viewers rushed to reply below.
"Qin Ye just killed two wolves."
"Qin Ye just killed two wolves."
"Qin Ye just killed two wolves."
A string of comments flooded below—Xuxu Baobao couldn't miss them. He'd been so caught up in chatting he'd forgotten about the PK entirely.
"Bro, is what the viewers say true? Did you really kill two wolves?" Everyone who knew Xuxu Baobao knew he was thin, scrawny, barely two pounds of flesh—compared to Qin Yun's muscular frame, he was a chicken skewer.
Even so, he found it hard to believe anyone could kill two wolves in the wild—this wasn't a movie.
But so many people were saying it—could it really be fake?
Qin Yun smiled faintly: "Just lucky."
Hearing Qin Yun admit it, Xuxu Baobao gasped, bowing repeatedly: "Bro, you're fierce! I'm impressed!"
During these few minutes of chatting, many of Xuxu Baobao's fans drifted over. Viewers here naturally explained to them that Qin Yun was livestreaming from the Greater Khingan Range and would stream again tomorrow on time—each one followed him.
When the five-minute PK ended, Qin Yun found his follower count had skyrocketed to 350,000—in just a few minutes. Unreal.
While chatting with viewers and sharing tips, ten Carnival gifts flashed across the screen.
"Xuxu Baobao sent the host ten Carnivals—Bro, already followed. I'll watch your stream tomorrow. Stay safe."
Qin Yun immediately thanked him: "Thanks, Brother Xu, for the gift."
After ending today's livestream, Qin Yun checked his earnings: pure gift revenue reached 120,000. After the 30/70 split, he took home over 80,000. Unreal.
Then Qin Yun charged his devices, packed them away, went outside, dug a hole, lined it with leaves, and prepared to rest.
With a campfire and a cave—even though a terrifying snake shed lay inside—the night passed peacefully. He woke at 6:30 a. m.
Outside the cave, the pit had collected plenty of water. He washed up briefly and instantly felt much more alert.
He inserted the battery into the drone, controlled the secondary unit to fly skyward, and checked the she-wolf's former position—she was gone. She must have left after waking.
That was fine.
Around seven o'clock, he started his livestream on time.
"Hello everyone, I'm Qin Yun. I'm currently in the Greater Khingan Range, undertaking a five-day wilderness survival. Today is officially day two. Yesterday's haul was good—I caught a rabbit, ate half, and saved the other half. If today doesn't go well, I can still survive on rabbit meat."
"Today's goal is simple: keep heading north, hoping to find water. I haven't bathed in two or three days—I feel I'm starting to smell. And if I find water, my survival will become much easier. I hope I succeed."
After his opening remarks, Qin Yun slung his backpack and left the cave to set out.
He had no worries about direction—his drone was linked to satellites, so he'd never lose his bearings.
"Good morning, Qin Ye. Feels like I blinked and you're livestreaming again."
"Qin Ye got up so early—I just got to the subway."
"The early bird gets the worm—Qin Ye, are you ready to eat worms?"
Qin Yun glanced at the comments and smiled: "If one day you're out in the wild, besides food and safety, there's another important thing: knowing direction. Only when you know your position can you judge which way to go."
"Qin Ye, you're such a jinx—I won't get lost in the wild."
"I'll never set foot in a primeval forest. Leave that to gods like Qin Ye."
Qin Yun looked up at the sky. The clouds were thick today, making the sun hard to see, but he still roughly knew its position.
"In the wild, there are many ways to tell direction. Everyone knows the sun method: at noon, the sun is due south, so an object's shadow points due north."
"At night, you can use Mount Qixing to orient yourself—the North Star points due north. But don't rely on just one method; there's always error. You can also check tree rings—you all learned that in elementary school, right?"
"Qin Ye's joking—who remembers elementary school stuff?"
"Forget elementary school—I've forgotten everything from high school too."
Qin Yun walked to a tree stump and pointed at its rings: "The side with looser rings usually faces south—the sun-facing side. The denser side faces north."
He took a few steps forward, bringing the camera close to a rock covered in thick moss.
"Look—moss tends to grow thick and damp on the north side. Combine that with the tree rings and the sun's current position, and I can be certain that direction is due north."
"Now that we've fixed our direction, let's move on."
The rest of the journey brought no danger. He walked, paused, chatted—and it was quite pleasant. When he estimated he'd walked about fifteen kilometers, he stopped.
"I'm a bit hungry. Need to replenish energy. Too bad I only found some red beans along the way—no proper fruit."
Qin Yun picked a stone, wiped it clean, and sat down. He took the wrapped roasted rabbit from his backpack and ate it straightaway.
"It's cold, but has its own flavor. Still, this little rabbit meat won't last till night. Even if I don't eat it, it'll spoil. Too bad. I should've smoked it over charcoal yesterday."
After finishing the remaining rabbit meat, Qin Yun became once again a man worried about food.
"It's twelve noon. I need to find shelter—or a suitable spot to build it—before five. Otherwise, I'll be freezing tonight."
Perhaps yesterday's luck ran out. Until 4:30 p. m., he found no natural spot suitable for shelter.
"I have to build my own shelter. Otherwise, when night falls, it'll be miserable."
He walked along the ground covered in pine needles, and soon spotted a fallen large tree. He circled it, assessed it, and made up his mind.
"Friends, tonight I'll use this big tree to build a shelter."
He quickly gathered five roughly equal-sized branches and some vines, then began constructing against the fallen tree.
Two branches stood upright; two others were hung across the tree, forming a slant, secured with vines. Then another branch was laid horizontally across the front, forming a 【冂】—though the left side was a bit low, overall it looked fine.
He gathered soft pine needles and moss and draped them on top, then found thinner branches, standing them one by one along both sides and the front. In less than half an hour, a simple lean-to was complete.
He lined the inside with leaves, crawled in to test it, then grinned at the camera: "Not bad. Not as comfy as last night, but you can't expect much in the wild."
He sat up, stepped out of the lean-to, and soon returned with several pieces of hard wood.
"What's Qin Ye planning to do?"
"Qin Ye has nothing left to eat—doesn't he plan to hunt again?"
"What the hell are you talking about, hunting."
Qin Yun pointed at the wood on the ground and smiled: "These are pine logs—hard, fine-grained, with clear rings. I'm going to carve something while it's still early."
"Does the streamer know carving?"
"Someone up there clearly hasn't watched Qin Ye's videos. Qin Ye doesn't just carve—he climbs cliffs, and his climbing is god-tier. He even fixes motorcycles."
Seeing someone had explained, Qin Yun didn't bother elaborating. He pulled out his stone knife: "Tools are crude, but I'll make do. No problem—I've got the skill."
He began working on the wood on the ground. Soon, bark fell away, revealing smooth, clear wood grain.
For the rest of the time, Qin Yun occasionally glanced at comments, but mostly focused entirely on carving.
Though it was only a stone knife, with his strength and after becoming proficient, even clumsy tools couldn't stop him—wolves and rabbits leapt to life on camera, vivid and lifelike.
"Awesome—streamer's Knife skill is top-notch."
"I want one. Qin Ye, how about a lucky draw—gift one to us?"
As soon as the suggestion was made, the livestream erupted in activity.
Qin Yun thought for a moment, then posted a lucky bag and drew two winners.
Three minutes later, the lucky bag opened, and two excited comments immediately popped up.
"Hahaha, I won! I won!"
"Qin Ye, it's me, it's me—did you see? I won!"
After confirming their addresses in the backend, Qin Yun chuckled and signed off. Today's data, naturally, was far lower than yesterday's—net income after all deductions was under fifty thousand.
