Chapter 144: Just So Mischievous
I don't know how Yuan Lang and Teng Kun managed to dig it out, but the pit is actually as deep as two obedient monkeys.
The injured obedient monkeys kept letting out angry roars, echoing through the mountains.
The Beastfolk howled and cheered.
Yuan Lang raised a hand to cut off the Beastfolk's revelry: "Quickly deal with this thing, check if it has a crystal core; we need to leave fast, otherwise if we attract a large number of obedient monkeys, we'll be in trouble."
The Beastfolk nodded, facing the obedient monkey trapped in the deep pit, its whole body covered in wounds, they all revealed ferocious smiles: "You dared to scheme against us, go to hell."
Even as mighty as an obedient monkey, it couldn't hold out long under the Beastfolk's claws; after a moment it howled and lost its breath.
Teng Qian laughed loudly and jumped into the pit: "I'll take care of finding the crystal core."
The young Beastfolk nervously formed a circle around the pit's edge, watching Teng Qian struggle to turn the obedient monkey's body over, his claws stabbing toward its chest; after rummaging there for a moment, he lifted his head with a somewhat stiff expression.
Seeing this, the Beastfolk all felt a wave of disappointment.
"It's fine; you don't get a crystal core just once or twice. I heard my father and them say they also had to hunt many fierce beasts to obtain a crystal core."
"Exactly, we've only hunted a few so far; once we return and recuperate, we can fight again."
Watching the Beastfolk encourage each other, Wu Yue's face showed a hint of a smile.
"Ah ga ga ga ga ga!"
Suddenly, an unusually arrogant burst of laughter came from the deep pit, and all the Beastfolk looked bewildered at Teng Qian in the pit.
All that could be seen was his right hand, stained red with blood, holding up a white crystal.
Its size and appearance were all too familiar to Wu Yue, who had once possessed one.
It's a crystal core!
So that means Teng Qian just did that on purpose... isn't he just asking for a beating!
But the surrounding Beastfolk seemed not to care about his antics, each face full of excited smiles as they reached out and hauled Teng Qian up.
Surprise always comes unexpectedly.
Before Teng Qian could even gloat, the Beastfolk all changed expression, swinging their fists and charging forward.
Hearing Teng Qian's miserable screams from the crowd, Wu Yue could only sigh, happy times are always fleeting.
After returning to the cave, the elder Beastfolk gathered the young ones together and explained the mistakes they made in this hunt.
That scene inevitably reminded Wu Yue of her school in her previous life.
But here, learning is even more brutal; growing through repeated dangerous trials, one might easily lose hands or feet, or even pay with one's life.
"Little female, do you have any pain-relieving herbs?"
That contemptuous voice was all too familiar; Wu Yue turned her head and saw it was indeed Teng Qian.
She looked at him amusedly: "I remember when we attacked the obedient monkey just now, you weren't hurt in the face."
Teng Qian tugged at the corner of his mouth: "It's not like that; these shameless beasts all say don't hit the face when fighting, they must be jealous of my good looks."
He muttered resentfully.
Wu Yue remained silent...
You pighead, you probably have some misunderstanding about yourself.
What does being good-looking have to do with you?
Helplessly shaking her head, Wu Yue rose and took a few herbs from her back basket: "After crushing these herbs and squeezing out the juice, apply it to the sore spot; it'll be fine in a moment."
Having said that, she pointed to the red swelling and bruising on his face: "But these marks won't fade until tomorrow."
