Chapter 4

~4 min read 647 words

Just then, a series of roars came from outside the tribe one after another; the little cubs on the stones stopped sunbathing, one by one they pat-patted off the stones, howling as they ran toward the tribe's gate.

Wu Yue and the tribespeople also had their attention drawn by the tribe's commotion, and they involuntarily turned their gaze toward the sound.

The sight that entered her view shocked her and once again updated her understanding of this society: 'Holy cow, what the hell is this?'

Several huge beasts, either carrying or dragging a bloody prey, walked into the tribe, and some tall half-beasts or pure humans followed behind.

They held weapons of various lengths in their hands, a long stalk with only a sharp stone tied at its tip.

In their other hand they carried a precious animal-skin bag, bulging inside.

Seeing that absolutely beyond-comprehension giant beast, Wu Yue fell silent; she was still not even as big as one of its toenails.

Such a giant beast hunting in the forest is already dangerous enough; if I encountered a wild beast like this, I fear even a single fart from it could blow me to pieces.

The Beastman Warriors who had returned from hunting were washing the blood off their bodies downstream of the river, while several huge prey lay silently on the riverbank.

The fluffy cubs who had just run over from the clearing were lying on these prey, tearing and biting, letting out tender yet fierce whimpering sounds.

But their baby teeth could do nothing against the thick hides of these wild beasts, leaving only puddles of drool.

A Snow Tiger shook off the water on its body, and with a leap it came beside a prey; he stretched out his massive forepaw and flipped over the little cub that was smearing saliva on the prey's belly.

Opening its huge mouth, it bit and tore at the prey; the strong bloody smell instantly spread along the bank, and the little cubs still smearing saliva immediately stopped their actions and looked toward the big tiger.

The Beastfolk ignored the eager gazes of the surrounding little cubs and gnawed on the fresh flesh of the prey.

A little cub tried to step up for a share, but the Beastfolk turned his head and gave a low growl; the cub let out a soft whimper and retreated to the side of its companions.

Only after all the Beastfolk had finished eating did the little cubs standing not far away swarm forward, scrambling over each other for the remaining prey.

Meanwhile, the half-beast and pure-human children could only stand to the side, swallowing their saliva while holding the wild vegetables their parents had given them.

Until the Beastman Warriors had finished eating, the Half-Beast warrior stared at the prey by the river, gulped hard, steadied his mind, and led the sturdy men over there.

"Chief, a small tribe has come to trade food, bringing some slaves; many slaves died in winter—should we replenish them?"

The Half-Beast stood before a towering beast-form Snow Tiger Beastmen whose left claw bore three golden stripes, and bowed to ask.

The languid Snow Tiger Beastmen rose at the words, an invisible pressure spread among the small tribe's people, causing them to involuntarily hold their breath.

The Beastfolk took a few steps forward, then his whole body burst into a dazzling light; when the light faded, a sturdy middle-aged Beastman Warrior over two meters tall appeared before everyone.

"How many slaves do you have?" the Beastfolk's voice was low, his brows and eyes full of dignity, his whole body exuding an overbearing aura.

The sturdy man hurriedly bowed forward upon hearing this, wiping the sweat from his forehead: "Chief, all the tribespeople we brought this time are here; please take a look."
