Chapter 44: The Black-Lacquered Old Man with a Cane
Tongzi let out two tsundere hums before starting business: "Congratulations, host, for completing the first item of the long-term main quest 'Residence': owning a set of your own residence in the Snow Tiger Tribe, reward points ×10, reward Simple Edition Woodworking Encyclopedia ×1, this book is an electronic version, host can open the panel to view."
Wu Yue glanced sideways: "The Woodworking Encyclopedia is just the Woodworking Encyclopedia; why is it the Simple Edition?"
Tongzi sneered: "Host, your head must be filled with bitter vegetable juice, huh? In this environment, would you even use the modern version I gave you?"
Wu Yue: "."
Why does it suddenly feel actually quite reasonable?
"Host, the Simple Edition Woodworking Encyclopedia is absolutely a must-have for transmigration and rebirth; this reward won't let you lose out."
Wu Yue's mouth twitched: "Tongzi, I feel like you're a pimp."
Tongzi: ". Dog host, the system decides to block your free time."
After saying that, he/she angrily huffed and fell silent.
Wu Yue rubbed her nose; Tongzi's temper is really getting bigger.
"Yue! Are you there? Come out!" came Qingcao's familiar voice from above.
Wu Yue got up, patted the dust off her butt, and stuck her head out of the door: "What's the matter, why the rush?"
Qingcao's somewhat gaunt face was flushed with excitement: "The salt-exchanging tribe members are arriving soon; the hunting tribe members met them in the forest and rushed back to report; let's go out to greet them quickly."
Wuyue's eyes lit up: "The salt-exchanging team?"
She had indeed heard Qingcao say that this team had set out long before winter arrived, trekking thousands of miles to the Bai Sha Yan Hai just to exchange for the salt that keeps the Beastfolk alive.
Wuyue's eyes also shone like stars as she zoomed over to Qingcao, grabbed her arm, and ran toward the tribe's gate.
The tribe was bustling; the salt-exchanging team has returned, the warriors have returned!
The two struggled to squeeze to the front of the crowd as the chief led the tribe's Beastfolk already waiting outside.
What caught Wu Yue's gaze was a thin, dark old man wrapped in vines still standing before the chief.
He held a wooden staff taller than himself, and the staff...
"Holy shit!" Wu Yue's face showed shock.
Who could tell her what the faint blue glow emanating from the top of that staff was?
"Tongzi, come save your host, I feel like I'm about to die." Wu Yue muttered.
Concerned for the dog host's life, the system didn't dare be vague and came online: "What's wrong, what's wrong?"
Wu Yue stared straight ahead in the direction that disillusioned her: "I'm already lovesick to the point of hallucination; I just saw that pitch-black old man's cane actually glowing."
System: "There's a dog host whose heart is really tired!"
He/she took a deep breath of bird air: "So when I first gave you basic knowledge of the Beast World, were you sleepwalking, dog host?"
Wu Yue wore a doubtful expression: "You said that?"
System gritted its teeth: "If I hadn't said that, I'd livestream eating shit."
That pitch-black old man is the shaman of the Beast World; the staff in his hand is not the cane old people used in your previous life—it's a shaman's staff.
The shaman's staff itself doesn't glow; what you're seeing is the shamanic energy emanating from that pitch-black shaman.
Wu Yue's small mouth formed an O: "How damn awesome!"
The system sneered: "Exactly how damn awesome, so host, hurry up and accumulate points; the cultivation system needs a full hundred points to unlock."
