Chapter 642: Sneaking into the Cave

~6 min read 1,048 words

Opportunities always go to the prepared; Wu Yue is either cultivating in the tent or wandering the trade fair grounds with the white-faced Beastfolk, and soon the day arrived when the super tribes gathered to discuss rules.

The wandering shamanic power around the tent seemed to be drawn by something as the person inside cultivated, and streams of it flowed into the tent.

At Wu Yue's mouth and nose pulsed a vibrant emerald shamanic energy full of life.

Suddenly, her pink ear twitched, the wandering shamanic energy around her instantly dispersed, and her previously closed eyes snapped open.

"Tsk, looks like it's time."

A soft murmur sounded in the tent; she sat up, straightened her clothes, lifted the curtain, and looked toward the front of the tent.

The white-faced Beastfolk of the Sea Eel Tribe strode toward the tent with a beaming smile.

Seeing that sturdy figure emerge from the hide tent, the white-faced Beastfolk bared a big white tooth, quickened his pace, and with a few flashes reached the tent entrance.

"Leave now?"

A pleasant female voice rang in his ear; the white-faced Beastfolk looked at the speaking Shaman Yue, her fair handsome face showing an irrepressible gloating smile.

"I've left, I've left—I personally saw the Sea Snake Grand Shaman and my father enter the Council Cave together."

Wu Yue nodded, stepped out, and said, "Then let's go now."

The white-faced Beastfolk waved his hand casually: "Don't worry, I attend every trade fair; I know this council best—they won't come out in less than half a day."

Those old-timers are up in years, talkative, and quite long-winded.

As his words fell, he saw the little female's steps hadn't paused; he clicked his tongue and hurried after her.

Feeling the Beastfolk's aura approaching, Wu Yue glanced sideways at the carefree Beastfolk beside her: "Don't forget what we agreed on—don't leave me out."

The white-faced Beastfolk startled, not knowing what "leak out" meant, but hearing the first half of Shaman Yue's words, he understood her meaning and earnestly nodded: "Don't worry, you handle the stealing, I'll take care of the cleanup—I won't let those long worms of the Sea Snake Tribe catch us."

Seeing his confident bearing, Wu Yue nodded: "Let's go."

The white-faced Beastfolk again took Wu Yue around all the trade stalls under the pretense of courting a female, exchanged many items generously, earned a look from a spendthrift, then pitter-pattered behind her to see her back.

After gesturing for him to put the trade goods inside the tent, Wu Yue lifted her chin: "Keep safe what I gave you; when you get word, come find me as before."

The white-faced Beastfolk's face flushed with excitement as he touched the shamanic talisman in his clothes, his eyes shining as he nodded: "You can rest assured."

Seeing the white-faced Beastfolk off, Wu Yue chuckled twice, took out the invisibility talisman exchanged for his friend's gifted items, summoned the Step Cloud, and slipped out while the guard Beastfolk were grilling meat.

The hide flap swung up and down quickly; the Beastfolk roasting meat, accustomed to it, continued as the young female shaman inside the tent did who-knows-what, constantly lifting the flap.

He had previously worried about the shaman's safety, barging in without consent, but found she was merely practicing a strange motion, displeased at his intrusion, and thereafter never entered again.

Wu Yue rode the Step Cloud, picking open spots to weave through, and soon arrived at the place where the white-faced Beastfolk had scouted the Sea Snake Tribe's snow salt storage.

But the sight before her made her frown unconsciously; the guards at the cave entrance were now several times more numerous, rotating even while eating.

Her heart sank—had the Sea Snake Tribe learned of her and the white-faced Beastfolk's plan?

"Brother, meat must be eaten fresh-killed, hot and steaming—tender with a bloody sweetness; once cooked it loses flavor."

A Sea Snake Tribe Beastman Warrior sitting by the fire looked at his fellow tribesman, chewing a large piece of steaming raw meat, the rich blood scent spreading in his mouth as he unconsciously enjoyed it, narrowing his already small eyes.

"Hmph."

The Beastfolk opposite him scornfully glanced at his dirty state, still slowly roasting his meat chunk: "You're really filthy."

After mutual disdain, they switched topics and began talking about something else.

"I say the chieftain overthinks—forcing our two squads to guard here—who'd dare steal the mighty Sea Snake Tribe's salt?"

As he spoke, the scarlet blood trickled from his lip to his chin; the Beastfolk wiped it off casually and kept eating, savoring the aroma.

Just letting Wu Yue, hiding nearby, see them made everything feel awful; the air felt thick, reeking of blood.

The Beastfolk slowly grilling meat lifted his eyelids: "We just need to obey the chieftain's orders—why ask so much?"

"Tch, with this time we might as well lie in the tent and sleep with the little female."

The Beastfolk grilling meat glanced at his thick thighs, his gaze full of meaning: "Hehe."

Seeing their conversation gradually turn colorful, Wu Yue gazed skyward speechless—male topics truly are eternal.

The grilling Beastfolk slowly turned the meat on his spit: "Alright, time's up—hurry up and swap shifts, then rest."

The Beastfolk gnawing raw meat, upon hearing that, shoved the last bits into his mouth, shook off the blood on his hands, and walked toward the tribesmen guarding either side of the cave.

"Come on, come on—quickly go eat and rest."

Hearing that, the guard Beastfolk each stretched their bodies and eagerly headed toward the food area.

At that moment, the Beastman Warriors seated behind the grilling Beastfolk hurriedly stuffed food into their mouths, rose quickly, and marched toward the cave storing the salt.

The grilling Beastfolk frowned at the other Beastman Warrior squad hastily eating, said nothing, only reminded his own squad to watch carefully, then went back to slowly grilling meat.

Inside the cave at that moment, Wu Yue exhaled slowly; having just slipped in while the guard team was away, only a few seconds had passed, leaving her nerves taut, fearing her breath and the disturbance of entering would be detected.

The Step Cloud drifted slowly deeper into the cave, and Wu Yue's heart, which had nearly leapt from her throat, gradually settled back.
