Chapter 73: Little Crafty Ghost

~4 min read 638 words

After speaking, the two opened the animal hide in their hands, inside which was clearly more dandelion than the previous amount of bitter greens.

"We're going to make wild vegetable dumplings."

Mujing's A Mu called them to stop: "Make some of both kinds of wild vegetable dumplings."

After the two responded loudly, they went chattering into the cave.

On this side, Wu Yue and Qingcao busied themselves until afternoon before finally finishing sorting all the dandelion.

There really was a lot of the sorted stuff; Wu Yue even found Sichuan pepper and fresh ginger inside.

The two put the sorted dandelion into a rattan bag and dragged it back to the house, just about to simply make some grass balls to eat.

But unexpectedly, a burst of wailing suddenly came from the courtyard, very noisy.

Wu Yue and Qingcao exchanged a glance and quickly walked over.

Only then did they see that the small courtyard was filled with tribespeople; Caoyuan and Mujing, eyes red, were following behind a middle-aged aunt.

Wu Yue frowned at Mujing: "What's happening?"

Mujing was about to speak when the middle-aged aunt shouted in a sharp voice: "Did the wild vegetables you gave Mujing and Caoyuan today contain poisonous herbs?"

Wu Yue's face instantly turned cold, her eyes icy as she stared at the middle-aged aunt: "Do you have any evidence?"

Being stared at coldly by her, the middle-aged aunt's face showed some hesitation, but thinking of Caoyuan's A Mu still lying at home in great pain...

The middle-aged aunt hardened again: "Today Caoyuan and Mujing came to your place to exchange wild vegetables and bring them back; after we ate at noon, Caoyuan's A Mu started having a stomachache, yet you still say it's not you."

Her long‑working, dry, blackened fingers swayed in front of Wu Yue's face; several times, if Wu Yue hadn't dodged in time, she would have been poked in the cheek.

Hearing her words, Wu Yue suddenly laughed out loud, but the chill in that laugh could be heard by all the tribespeople present.

The whole small courtyard instantly fell silent; everyone involuntarily focused their gaze on the petite, thin young female.

Only then did the young female extend her hand and slap the middle-aged aunt's hand down with a "pa": "Your hand is about to poke my face."

After saying that, she looked at the middle-aged aunt: "You say you all ate the wild vegetables you exchanged from my place?"

The middle-aged aunt shouted sharply: "Yes, we all ate it; that wild vegetable was exchanged from your place—do you dare say it isn't?"

Wu Yue gave a cold smile and nodded: "Naturally it was exchanged from my place."

The people in the courtyard instantly began to discuss.

"Is it really this young female who mixed in poisonous herbs?"

"No way, Mujing and Caoyuan still have a very good relationship with Yue."

"But." Wu Yue's clear, cold voice rang out again: "Could this aunt tell me why Caoyuan's A Mu got a stomachache after eating my wild vegetables, while you all are fine?"

As soon as those words were spoken, the courtyard first fell silent, then everyone couldn't help but look doubtfully at the middle-aged aunt and the Caoyuan and Mujing behind her.

The middle-aged aunt stood there stunned: "This... this"

"Yeah, why are they fine but Caoyuan's A Mu is the one who got hurt?"

"What's happening?" Huashu Auntie's voice came from outside the courtyard, and everyone made way.

Only then did they see the imposing Huashu behind whom a tall, handsome beastfolk walked in.

Yuan Lang, holding a piece of meat in his hand, glanced at the cold‑faced young female and secretly felt pleased.

He really is a little crafty ghost; this cheap A Mu of his is the most protective of his own.
