Chapter 550: The "Let the Mistake Slide" Production Team, Male Lead Ren Yibai
At the end of the month, on the set of "Let the Mistake Slide".
Xiao Gao hurriedly ran into the production area holding an iced, fizzing coffee.
"Excuse me, coming through, please make way."
He shouted as he pushed forward, glancing at the time on his wrist, his eyes growing more anxious.
A prop master pushing a cart in front of him turned his head to look at him and said with annoyance, "This batch is too heavy, we can't push it any faster. You'd better squeeze past from the side here! Don't crash into our stuff!"
"Uh, never mind, I'll go another way—"
Xiao Gao was desperate to get in, but also afraid he couldn't afford to pay for any damaged props if he bumped the cart, so he took a step back, turned, and tried to dash towards another entrance.
"Hey, hey—"
Just as he turned, he didn't expect another group of people to be right behind him. The coffee in his hand wobbled dangerously, nearly spilling.
"Sorry, sorry!" Xiao Gao was dizzy from running around, his mind completely fixated on the time. For a moment, he even forgot to look up and see who this group of people was. He hastily bowed in apology repeatedly, then darted past the group and ran towards the other entrance.
Xiao Chen clicked his tongue lightly. "He's being really reckless."
Xiao He, however, didn't say anything. He followed leisurely behind the prop cart, even giving it a helpful push.
The prop master felt the cart become noticeably easier to push. He turned his head, saw it was Xiao He and his group, looked surprised, then nodded in thanks. "Thank you."
"No problem."
Xiao He smiled and shook his head, appearing very easy-going.
The prop master hadn't actually interacted with Xiao He before, but after years of working on sets, he had a sharp eye for people. Remembering what just happened, he unusually offered an explanation. "That kid just now was rushing to deliver coffee. He might lose his job if he doesn't, so don't mind his rudeness."
Xiao He understood and asked, "Whose assistant is he?"
"Ren Yibai, the male lead of the production," the prop master said. He didn't elaborate further, but shook his head, clearly implying this was not someone to mess with.
Xiao He finally understood.
"Thanks for the heads-up, Master."
He proactively thanked him. Xiao Chen, standing beside him with good awareness, immediately handed the prop master a pack of cigarettes.
These things were all prepared in advance on Liu Rulan's reminder, to help build good relations when joining a new production team.
Although no one working on a set like this would be short of a pack of cigarettes, the distance between people could indeed be bridged so easily.
Sure enough, seeing the cigarettes, the prop master smiled, very naturally pocketing them. He then shifted the prop cart, making a wider space for Xiao He's group. "This is my work area, I can handle it. Teacher Xiao, you and your people should go ahead first from here, so you're not delayed."
"Alright, thank you."
The path that the young assistant couldn't squeeze through just moments ago was now easily wide enough for their entire group to pass through. The difference really wasn't small.
Xiao He politely thanked him, then led Xiao Chen through this narrow path and continued forward.
Once past this path, the front opened up into a spacious outdoor area. Tents of a uniform color were set up nearby, along with several large trucks and RVs. Further ahead was the actual filming set.
The arrival of Xiao He's group didn't attract much attention. Everyone was busy with their own tasks. Not only was there little communication between people, but their faces also lacked any extra expression, appearing quite cold.
Xiao Chen finally couldn't hold back any longer. He leaned close to Xiao He and whispered, "Brother Xiao, the atmosphere on this set is terrifying."
Even though people don't usually smile while working, the deathly silence here was still unsettling.
To be honest, it wasn't just Xiao Chen; Xiao He felt it too. "It's been a long time since I've experienced this kind of awkwardness when first joining a production team."
Xiao He had been lucky. From the start, he got to know many people in the Shanghai circle and built good relations there. With Liu Rulan safeguarding him, and later becoming a boss himself through investments, entering a set had become very casual. He often ran into familiar faces, completely losing that sense of unfamiliar awkwardness.
Later, when he came to Beijing, he met the entire faction around Zhuang Hongyi. So, Xiao He basically didn't bother with other forces in the Beijing circle, just sticking with projects from Zhuang Hongyi's side. Going around, he also got to know many people in the Beijing circle, like Director Ning, or Miss Yuan Sitong, or the already-fallen Qin Yuezhang and people from Xingchen Film Industry.
But this time, the production team they were joining had no connection to the capital from Zhuang Hongyi's side. The people in this team, from the producers and directors at the top, down to the actors and support staff, were not only unfamiliar to Xiao He, but even Liu Rulan had rarely had contact with them. Everyone was truly strangers to each other.
And so, this situation on site was created.
Xiao He's group were newcomers, feeling somewhat restrained. The others on the team also didn't know what Xiao He's real-life temper was like, but the fierce reputation of the "Award-Winning Actor of Villains" preceded him, making people hesitant to approach. They were also afraid that actively trying to curry favor with Xiao He might attract *that person's* displeasure. So, they simply busied themselves with their own work, fearing to be singled out.
Fortunately, this situation didn't last long.
Soon, a person hurriedly ran out from the filming area.
"Teacher Xiao, hello! Teacher Xiao, hello! Teacher Xiao, you've had a long journey!"
The person even shouted while running, as if afraid Xiao He would just turn around and leave. Wearing an ingratiating smile, he was almost instantly in front of Xiao He.
"You are—"
Xiao He looked the man up and down.
This was a man with an inherent artistic, literary aura. He looked quite young, probably just over thirty. His hair was so thick it would make other directors weep with envy. He wore heavy black-rimmed glasses, and when he looked at people, he naturally had a smiling effect. He didn't seem much like an artist, but more like a worldly businessman.
"You must be Director Zhan? Pleasure to meet you."
Xiao He proactively offered a handshake.
"Teacher Xiao, no need to be so formal. Just call me Little Zhan."
Zhan Min tightly grasped Xiao He's hand, his tone exceptionally earnest.
"Haha, I wouldn't dare. I'm just here to help out in a pinch. I must follow your arrangements, Director Zhan. How could I address you casually and break the rules?"
Xiao He certainly didn't dare call him "Little Zhan."
Besides, he was younger than "Little Zhan." What would calling him that even mean?
"Come, come, it's hot outside. Let's go inside first."
Zhan Min gestured sideways for Xiao He to follow, then led him towards a nearby break room.
The space in this location was relatively small. There were only a few usable building rooms, basically all used for storing equipment. The rest of the production team were mostly resting or working in the tents outside.
August was already the start of autumn, but Beijing's days still carried a hint of heat. Combined with the stuffiness of those tents, it was practically enough to stew a person.
Xiao He's gaze, however, didn't fall on the tents outside, but on a room next to the break room.
The door of that room currently had an A4 paper stuck to it, clearly bearing the name "Ren Yibai."
Meaning, even under such basic conditions on set, a dedicated break room had still been cleared out for this gentleman.
Xiao He couldn't help but feel a sense of emotion.
For a moment, he actually felt a bit nostalgic.
He just didn't know if this one would be able to get along with him.
